Bro, someone here mentioned before. You got to try the dim sum in Mandarin Oriental hotel (Lai Po Heen) just next to KLCC. The dim sum is halal and is nicer than the famous dim sum in Ipoh(usually touted as having the best dim sum in Malaysia). I think the key to good dim sum lies not only in the chef's skills but the ingredients. The meat and prawns are all very fresh. They prepare and cook right on the spot, fry right on the spot upon customer's order. So you are getting the freshest dim sum you can get at Lai Po Heen.

Sorry I got carried away. The dim sum in Malaysia still cannot beat the Hong Kong dim sum which is on another level, but if you want to savour the best halal dim sum, give Lai Po Heen at Mandarin Oriental a try. It's really good. You need to know what to order though, order the nice ones(there are many varieties).

best halal hong kong dim sum is minmax restaurant at PNB darby park, it has good rating online and many chinese eat there during weekend.

grand dorsett hotel subang jaya also got good reviews.

using chicken to make dim sum can be delicious also, the keys are seasoning and good ratio of fat/meat, of course most importantly is fresh made.

The Lai Po Heen dim sum restaurant in Mandarin Oriental 5-star hotel is surely very good, but some people still prefer the dim sum in Foh Sah Ipoh. Foh San restaurant in Ipoh is old school and very famous, though not halal. It is established more than 40 years ago and is very famous not only in Ipoh but Malaysia. All Chinese in Malaysia will know this "Foh San" if they love dim sum.

Taste buds are subjective. Some people love Lai Poh Heen, some people love Foh San. Some people say Lai Poh Heen is better, others say Foh san is better. But your question is funny "How can you compare such luxurious hotel food with dim sum shop in Ipoh". Of course we can compare anything we want. Even a small and unknown dim sum shop with mediocre quality food to top-notch Lai Po Heen in Mandarin Oriental. One shop will come up better. In this case between Lai Po Heen and Foh San, it will be dependent on the personal preference of the diner. Both are equally good, one halal, one not halal.

when it's halal, a dim sum is no longer a dim sum anymore. sad.gif
