Why Invest In Stocks?

Investing is making your money work for you by getting your money to generate more money. Investing in stocks has consistently proven to be one of the most profitable forms of investment available.

The benefits include:

Immediate Buy/Sell so you can sell part of your investment any time. Very low transaction cost.
The freedom to work at your own place, at your pace in your own time.
Easy monitoring - log in to the market from anywhere in the world.
Being able to maximise returns whilst spreading your risk.
A predictable form of investment if you know what you're doing.
Putting you in control and freeing you of fund management fees.
Considerable tax advantages.

Things to watch out for:

The market can be a volatile place.
You must acquire knowledge of what you are doing.
You must monitor your investments.
You must learn the discipline to enter and exit the market on entry and exit signals.

Buying and Selling Stocks

The thought of buying and selling stocks can seem daunting for a beginner but it is quite simple and will grow on you quite quickly once you have some practice. One essential thing to know is that you must go through a broker to buy and sell stocks, only a licensed broker can deal directly with the stock market.

Investing Basics

Contra Trading

Contra is the buying or selling of stocks without having to pay for the cost of the stocks. Once you buy the stocks on contra, you will have to sell the stocks within T+3. At the end of that period, you will have to pay for the difference between your initial buying price and selling price.

If you accidentally hold your shares to T+4, but you do not have $$$ to settle the total value in the shares bought, the broker will force sell your holding at any price, and you will be liable for the difference (Bad case, the losses).

Read that Shell has bought over BG for US$70 billion at 50% premium.

What is meant by 50% premium? At 50% more than the current market price? If true, so brave/kind/stupid(some may say this) to pay 50% extra. Ha.
*
it's 52% to the 90-day trading average price of the company..

reason is that Shell would gain access to BG's multi-billion dollar projects in Brazil, East Africa, Australia, Kazakhstan and Egypt, including some of the world's most ambitious liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects nod.gif

Noted and thanks.

Very generous of Shell then. Wish that I had some BG shares then. Ha.

BG shares is listed on London Stock Exchange..

Shell would pay 383 pence in cash and 0.4454 of Shell's B shares for each BG share nod.gif

Difference between A and B Shell shares

Considering the share price drop resulting from the oil price drop, paying 52% extra may not be that great now. Maybe Shell think with the recent drop in share price, BG is now at a bargain! Ha.

well the Shell-BG Deal would create the world's dominant supplier of LNG nod.gif

Dear all sifus,

Got a question here. I opened a CDS account about 10 years ago as at that time, the company was offering ESOS to the staff. Bought a few lots at that time but just remain domain there.

So now I wanted to let go the shares, but I have lost contact with the original remisier. I read that we can also choose to trade online. May I know how can I do this? My account is with Hwang.

Thanks

Hi guys,

Just a quick question: which online broker do you suggest for US stocks trading?

I was trying to open an account with Sogotrade but they declined my application due to the reason below (which is really sad!):
Obviously this is quite recent because I saw someone recommended Sogotrade back then. Seems like Malaysia has once again stood up for its Bolehland name! LOL

better to post here.. a lot of sifu trading US market there icon_rolleyes.gif
