QUOTE(goldfries @ Jun 17 2015, 08:36 PM) It has always been like that. Only the top-tier cards would be something new. Like HD 7790 to R7 260X, the only difference is R7 260X has TrueAudio and consumes a little more power. When you introduce a whole new line-up at once, there's bound to be old stuff being renamed. Nvidia's done that before as well, renamed / rebadged like silly before. whatto do no new chips, rebadge old gpu add more VRAM walla u get a new product. But id certainly like to see the 390x pit againts the 970.

Nvidia's done that before as well, renamed / rebadged like silly before. AMD has done it twice in a row for the new 370 so it is a straight rebadge of a rebadge. My point is that the mid-low end segment is old, either a rebadge or a minor tweak from the 7 series chips, so it is a half or full generation behind Nvidia. After looking at the released specs the 370 has much lower power requirements - 110W. That is strange considering that its still a pitcairn chip with slightly higher clocks than the original 7850. 290X will be going dirt cheap now, maybe you can go for those.
I'll be testing the 3 series soon against a GTX 980.

Yes, you're on 7950 now, going to 290x / 390x would be quite a jump.
390x should provide better power draw per performance.
