FTA channels pay huge fees to astro to carry their channels. Now with NJOi FTA channels are also affected by drop in revenue.MP is also under financial constraints, the last news was they maybe sold as a pack on astro.Well this news is only hear say, just get ready so that we wont be caught by surprise. tv3 was free in singapore when I was there many years ago, then it was the first channel sold in spore that time for $10 abt 20 yrs ago! biggrin.gif Tv3 was removed in 2002 cos of cantonese programmes which was against spore's mandarin policy

But still, they only they "might", not "they will". Time will tell, once Digital TV is officially made available to general public.

So which is which now?
I'm confused..
FTA channel pay astro or astro pays to FTA channels?

As for others channels like fox, Disney etc. It's astro pays them..
Got sign exclusive agreement also.. Because I got read them somewhere..

FTA channels using satelite to beam their services for wider coverage will definately pay the service provider .The wider the coverage the higher the earnings for advertisement revenue. To get Tv3 one has to install an uhf aerial but carrying the channel on astro is big saving for customer! I heard the payment is quite high, unable to confirm the exact figure. As for other channels astro buys content from them and pays for it but for FTA they use astro to get a wider coverage which wl boost their revenues. If not for astro msians wl still struggle to get a good and clear reception of those msian channels,if they were to use aerials and boosters!

For my opinion, I think it will be included as free HD channel (as long you are using B.yond decoder) just like Astro Maya HD, Astro Xi Yue HD, Go Shop and Go Asean. Because TV3 (and the rest of Media Prima channels) is a FTA channels, it sounds impossible for Astro to make it as a pay channel on Astro platform.

The reason why Media Prima channels are made available on Astro is because it can help them to expand their audience reach to not only the viewers that is using VHF/UHF antennas to receive, but also Astro customers as well.

With more audience reach, more viewers watch their channels = encourage advertisers to advertise no their Media Prima channels

So base on my assumption, it seems that Media Prima is the one that pays Astro to provide their channels onto Astro platform. In addition to that, do you guys remember when Astro IPTV and Njoi is newly introduced, Media Prima channels were not available at the beginning? After few months, then only TV3 and TV9 is available, and then few months later is NTV7 and 8TV. From what I see, hmmm yeah, Media Prima pays Astro, not the other way round.

So, what if Media Prima channels is being upgraded to HD? I would say, Media Prima got to pay more money to Astro compared to how much they've paid for their existing SD quality channels.

Plus, there is once where TV3 did a test transmission in HD quality (and even has Dolby Digital Plus logo on it) showing some sort of music concert programme and it keep on repeating/looping.

Fortunately, someone screen capture the test transmission... You can watch it here:

Also, watch it in original recorded 1080p quality by the user here:

Just upgraded to HD PVR and the Astro installer is coming this weekend for installation. He mentioned that if my existing cable is concealed, I would need to buy a "stacker" for RM 100 to use the PVR hardware, is this legit? Thanks....what happens if I just reuse my old cable?

Astro Maya HD is only simulcast 2 NJOI free Malay SD channels, Astro Prima & Astro Oasis & 2 NJOI Prepaid channels, Astro TVIQ & Astro Ceria only. Unlike Astro Xi Yue HD is only showing previously Chinese programs.

I'm going to move to a high rise building soon, the building is using centralised astro system, provided one output on wall.

My current astro subscription is using an outdoor dish with two cables for pvr. I checked with building management and they said astro will provide a converter to make the output on wall to support two cables for pvr, but when I checked with astro cs, they told me no such thing...

Anyone is using a centralised system with two cables for pvr? What method are you using?
