QUOTE(joshhd @ Nov 23 2016, 02:20 AM) Fox HD is from Measat 3a satellite while Tara HD is from the newly launch satellite, Measat 3b, launched on 2014. Newer satellites is usually better and has stronger transmission power (thanks to the advancement of technology), which it explains why you got 96% for pretty much any channels you receive from Measat 3b satellite, including Tara HD. More info: FYI, Measat 3a was launched on 2009. More than 90% of HD channels are being broadcast from Measat 3a and Measat 3b satellite. All SD channels are from Measat 3 satellite, launched on 2003. Wah u seems to know which channel from which satellite Even me don't know such info.. I hope later all HD channels move to Measat 3b, at least get stronger signal Thanks for explaining..

QUOTE(joshhd @ Nov 26 2016, 12:32 AM) Astro use all 3 Measat satellites (Measat 3, Measat 3a and 3b) on 91.5 degrees (East orbit) to provide satellite TV to customers. If all HD channels move to Measat 3b, then how about Measat 3a satellite? They won't waste the precious and expensive satellite capacity just because new satellite with better technology has launched, unless the satellites has reach its end of life, which it will be more than 10 years from now. Well maybe they can rent the capacity to others pay TV operators..

QUOTE(smileguy @ Nov 26 2016, 12:11 PM) yes they make big money by leasing transponders, infact most of their space has been taken up,thats why they are not interested to add good channels anymore, they prefer buy stuffs from pasar malam and make rojak instead http://www.lyngsat.com/Measat-3.html If u check here u wl see its leased to India while Measat3a/b to indonesia and other global providers Seriously I really damn piss with the rojak channel... It's getting worse.. No originality

QUOTE(izwanikhsan @ Nov 27 2016, 07:39 PM) Since Feb 2017 is the expiry of Astro's exclusive license, if other company wants to offer satellite TV service, do they still need to rely on MEASAT as their backbone or can they rent transponders from Palapa (Indosat), Asiasat etc? Will C-Band be allowed to or only Ku-Band allowed like ASTRO? Well I'm not sure.. So sorry...

QUOTE(izwanikhsan @ Nov 27 2016, 08:19 PM) Just something we can ponder. If new competitor needs to rely on Measat feed, it won't hurt Astro as the new company will be paying for transponder lease from Measat. If new competitor can rent transponders from Palapa or other satellite company, then they may be affected. Well I think back.. I don't think our government will allow operators to use foreign satellite.. Because measat is our country pride.. Any how until new operator is official, we can only speculate..

QUOTE(stephantsen @ Nov 28 2016, 12:24 AM) why must satellite? how come tm cannot take astro channel like hbo to beat them like what singtel starub did in sg? If not mistaken, astro had sign "exclusive agreements" with HBO.. Only astro has the right for HBO in Malaysia.. Got others channels too... I don't have the full list, but its also includes the Star & Fox networks channels.. And sports channels too.. This post has been edited by nexona88: Nov 28 2016, 11:02 AM

QUOTE(cyberkoh88 @ Nov 28 2016, 06:02 PM) damn astro, already terminate my astro account after account expired. now want to take back my astro PVR plus the satellite dishes. told me belongs to astro, told them previously before i am using PVR, normall astro decoder after contract finish still belongs to customer. Anyone facing same situation with me for PVR recorder? so in future want to watch astro again, need to apply new one for new decoder + satellite dishes + contract, cannot use reconnection account. damn astro, paying so much for 2 years, still want me to given back decoder to them... Well what I know decoder is belong to astro.. because they give some kind of "subsidy" for it.. The decoder cost is more that what u pay for initially.. The satellite dish normally they won't take.. But I don't know why even they ask for that too

QUOTE(JuneResources @ Nov 29 2016, 02:27 PM) Yes, KU band easily maintenance. However, you need to monthly payment for your payTV. Some-goes to C Band, hard to maintenance and a lot of adjustment. BUT, you need to set up your program channels and adjustment in order to catch up those "FREE" channels. we are at crossroad.. So u think which one is cheaper in long run?? Ku band or C band?

QUOTE(JuneResources @ Nov 29 2016, 06:03 PM) If you pandai self-maintenance and want get rid of monthly payTV for long run (Forget about the first time installation cost + equipment cost), then go for C band... Strong signal during heavily rain.. Enjoy different language channels such as Tamil word, Indonesia word, Japan word, Korea word and so on.. If you noob in self-maintenance and lazy to set those program channels, then go for Ku band... Of course, you have more favorite channels in Ku band compare C band.. (Bcoz you monthly pay to the payTV subscriber). then Ku Band is the choice

QUOTE(joshhd @ Nov 30 2016, 11:37 AM) Yes. Satellite TV can be interesting. If you like to feel the challenge to use parabolic dish to receive foreign channels from other satellites, then this is something you can "play" and learn to try it out. Because compared to Astro and IPTV, it is just.... TV channels from the provider. Don't get me wrong. I am not encouraging people to cancel Astro and watch foreign TV channels from other satellites. Also another thing to remind that, it is somehow not legal under Malaysian law, especially West Malaysia unless you got the permission from government such as TV station company like RTM, Media Prima and Astro. If you stay at rural areas, people usually don't bother because not all of them can afford to subscribe Astro also, so there are minorities of people uses parabolic dish to receive foreign channels such as channels from China. For urban city areas, you can do it also, but you need to pandai pandai la, hide the parabolic dish from obvious view and make sure your neighbours won't get jealous that you can watch TV channels for free, and end up file a complaint to MCMC (Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission) or the police. Too bad most of us staying in urban areas.. And well neighbours are not in talking term.. Well got some previous unsolved issues... If I were to put the parabolic dish, confirm they would report..

QUOTE(joshhd @ Nov 30 2016, 12:21 PM) That depends on your neighbours in your neighbourhood, because not every neighbours are so busy body like this. Because, you using a parabolic dish is none of their business, unless your neighbours are jealous. If can, hide it from obvious view such as at the back of the house, balcony, rooftop or something. As long is not easily spotted at the main road of your residential area, then it should be fine. Yup, it's depends on individuals neighborhood.. Some are okay.. Best is those kampung areas or those far far away from people.. No disturbances...

QUOTE(joshhd @ Nov 30 2016, 12:42 PM) Yeah. So, better stick with Astro, ya? Or if Astro would use C band DTH using 90cm offset dish with CSR, the dish will look like this: [attachmentid=8171374] This above picture is what Transvision uses C band for DTH on 90cm offset dish with CSR (the blue circular ring thing on the LNB). FYI, parabolic dish is used to receive C band signals because the satellite power output for C band is not as strong as Ku band signals. One of the main reason is C band coverage can cover as big as 1/3 Earth surface! So you need bigger parabolic dishes to get more signals for C band. But as newer satellites features better and more advanced technology, using smaller size dish can be made possible, just like what Transvision C band DTH does on Telkom 1, one of Indonesian satellite. well if uses the dish like shown above, should be no problem as it's looks like astro dish from far
