QUOTE(yamato @ Sep 1 2006, 01:40 PM) Believe it.The Spectrum used casette tapes to load and run games and a bit of serious programs. The original games were sold in cassette tapes and could be pirated by using a casette tape recorder. You wouldn't believe the time you had to wait until the games finished loading. Although it was mostly for games, it can still be considered a computer, complete with integrated keyboard. This post has been edited by Ngto: Sep 1 2006, 09:48 PM |

Wonder if anyone used a PC XT with 8088 CPU?...
Well, I did!..it was inherited set that I 1st learned about PC. I plonked 4k+ for a Clone 286-16Mhz DOS 3.3, a few months later after getting hooked. Came with a CGA color monitor..gosh!..the display was terrible. Jeez!..what we have now is like God sent..and its never enough!. |

My most ancient PC:
Sharp PC-7000A portable * Intel 8086 CPU * 768KB RAM (upgraded from 512k) * Monochrome CGA LCD dlsplay of DOOM! With DEAD backlight! * 9-pin CGA color monitor lead for second/external monitor * 2x Double-Sided Double-Density (320k) floppy disk drive Favouite features: On-the-spot BIOS settings - can go into BIOS at any time by pressing a special key on the keyboard and make tweaks to the configuration, and the changes take effect immediately! You wonder why most modern PC don't even have this. Ability to do multiscreen - My unit can do this - set LCD to mono, attach external color CRT, bang! Dualscreen fun! (I actually have one or two programs that takes advantage of this ability - Usually use ancient box with a equally old Sharp Color CGA display). Now it just lives in a box in my grandparents' place.
