Hi /k Recently me and friend got accepted for YTL(Yeoh Tiong Lay) and IOI(Industrial Oxygen Incorporate) scholarship. So we need some pointers on deciding which is a better scholarship. Both requires around 5 years bond. Amount of money(award) given is still unsure because not yet see agreement. Couldnt give much detail but is there anyone experienced or have any knowledge about which is a better one? Thank you very much in advance. Add:Course taking:Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering

If me I prefer PTPTN
After grad can choose to work wherever you want, instead of bond for few years
Or choose to further Master/PHD
Unless you are not confident enough to find job after grad

i guess is better for you to find out which company can offer what you preferred when you graduate.
M&E is a wide scope. Even in palm oil industry, they need M&E. Similarly in property construction, M&E is needed.
So follow your interest and you know which to pick.

QUOTE(joe_mamak @ Sep 10 2014, 04:59 PM) Already mentioned. oh missed that If scholarship for local U, wouldn't really recommend it. u will have more freedom to choose ur career path once u graduate. And more likely to have better salary than the bonded one if ur results are good.

Since there is no other details provided, then ask yourself, which company do you see yourself working for in the future?

YTL - key businesses are utilities, operating and maintenance (O&M) activities, high-speed rail, cement manufacturing, construction contracting, property development, hotels & resorts, technology incubation, real estate investment trust (REIT), and carbon consulting.
IOI - probably related to their production plant.
Don't know what branch of mechanical engineering you would like to be working in. Probably too early to tell.

If you are going to a local university better take PTPTN, study hard and get first class honours and develop your soft skills. You will have freedom to choose jobs after graduation, provided economy is good.
