Hello, wanting to upgrade so I am asking for some recommendations happy.gif

Your rig : phone (poweramp) as of now, pmp come later tongue.gif

What type of usage : music only

File format used in your source flac for vocal and piano pieces, mp3 320kbps for anything else

Genre of music you listen to : trance, vocal, piano pieces, orchestras, rock and the occasional metal

Headphone/ earphone type : iem only please smile.gif

- Other requirements : -

Budget : below rm400 if possible... Maybe can stretch a little bit tongue.gif

I prefer clarity and details. I like my bass but I'm not looking for anything that emphasizes on bass, I think I like a tighter bass a little, and I want better mids and highs because my iem I'm using now is bass-heavy type and it sounds horrible on the higher notes ._.

I'm currently looking at
Shure SE215
Yamaha EPH-100
ATH-IM50
ATH-IM70
Thanks all in advance! happy.gif

I have to say something with the ones you have listed in your list, they aren't really good choice for your type of music IMO.
SE215 - a little balanced all rounder. The lows extend well but being slightly flat, lesser definition, mid is thick but not sweet enough and lacks of air, the high is boring, lacking a little extension, overall lacks air. separation is good and the isolation is awesome.
EPH-100 - slightly warm sound with a hint of bass emphasis, mid is decent with more fleshed out notes. Treble is sort of a little on smooth side. Quality is one of the concern for this as most of the owner find problem after a long time of use..
IM50 & IM70 - they are quite good for vocal but definitely not nice for rock/rochestras/trance (not fast enough, a little too warm, less spacious + narrow soundstage as overall)

If I'd go with your music genres, I'll most likely pick few of these.
RE400 - Balanced sounding with a hint of warmth, intimate midrange, treble never go sibilant but there's enough air. Separation and soundstage is very very good.
KC06A - Neutral sound with a little coloration for midrange/treble. It sounds particularly spacious and you can feel treble extends very well.
GR07 - A good balanced all-rounder, warmest sounding among all, good sense of warmth with a slightly treble tilt (sometimes cause sibilance), bass hit with a fast decay and punch. Soundstage is good in height but lacks width.

Man.. even the TTPOD T1E or Havi B3 Pro version 1 are still better choices among your selection.  biggrin.gif

Seems of the 3 choices I prefer the ostry more, however that brings me to the next question. Seems there's 2 models, one is kc06 and one is kc06a, what's the difference? Thank you again notworthy.gif

KC06A has thicker presentation in mid and bass sounds fuller, hence warmer sounding compared to the KC06.  smile.gif It's only small difference, audible but definitely not day and night.

If you put it like that... is it worth to spend an extra rm50 for the kc06a compared to the kc06 then? I'm just a student... trying to cut as many corners as possible cry.gif cry.gif

Hey, is it normal for iems to have reaaaaaaaally bad sound fresh out of the box? And it will only get to the sound it's supposed to be after few hours? Anyone that owns lots of iems can confirm this? Thanks haha biggrin.gif

Usually no. most likely you have a faulty pair, what iem is that?
*
Actually it's the kc06a, maybe I was over-exaggerating a little, it isn't really that bad.. well it did improve a little after 7 hours of playing music but I'm not certain. After a few days I'll see then. After all there's warranty biggrin.gif

Actually it's also depends on the source and amp you have. To me, both KC06 and KC06A sound quite horrify on my Xiaomi 3. The sound is very empty, loose and lack of bass. Play it on at least a DAC cum amp like E07K or DAP like Fiio X1 would be a totally different story.

Mind to tell me your current set up?

in that case, probably can consider getting a DAP or DAC cum amp. The outcome can be day and night.
Not necessarily expensive one, at least a headfi level gadget would be helpful  smile.gif

No matter which IEMs or headphones that you are using, source determine the quality of sound signal that you feed the amp and headphones. Amp wise is to decorate timbre and amplify the sound.
Generally anything with headphone out has a headphone amp. Amp that is not up to audio level such as the build in amp of phone or computer, will give you bad sound quality as well.

Would the sansa clip+ or clip zip suffice? Pretty personal but I'm looking at it for my next purchase and if it doesn't really make that much of a difference in sound quality maybe I would reconsider my options... for something.. more poisonous brows.gif

Your rig: Poweramp on android
- What type of usage: music only
- File format used in your source: mp3 320kbps
- Genre of music you listen to: metal, soul pop(I think?) Artists like aimer
- Earphone type: iems
- Other requirements (if any): none
- Budget: hopefully <rm250..

I was using an ostry kc06a prior to this but it just died on me sad.gif
So with that you can use as a reference to what kind of sound I prefer. Hope to have one that's similar but I am open to hearing other alternatives as well, just list out if there are tongue.gif
Thanks a lot for spending your time to reply or maybe only read my post. icon_rolleyes.gif much appreciated

Can consider VSONIC GR07, I think the price range is around Rm350+?  The bass edition is slightly more expensive though.
*
I read a few reviews and it's definitely in my list, but the problem is the price! bye.gif

Are there any more alternatives that are at a cheaper price tag? I would much prefer it to be less than 250 as my original budget, but if the gr07 is really that that great as you say though, I guess I can save up a little longer.

I forgot to mention I'm a student. You know the budget of a student.. bangwall.gif

Hi all, would like to ask for some recommendations as I was satisfied the last time I dropped a question here as well icon_rolleyes.gif

- Your rig - pc & mobile, spotify streaming (premium)
- What type of usage - music
- File format used in your source - spotify, 320kbps mp3
- Genre of music you listen to - very wide. metal, mandopop, cantopop, jpop, some edm
- Headphone/ earphone type - IEM

Preferably price below rm200, willing to stretch if it is a significant upgrade.

My last iem was the ostry kc06a, which I was very satisfied with until the cables broke on me. I am looking for a new pair with a similar sound signature if possible. My taste is more towards clarity and balancedness, very nice vocals and if nice soundstage could be fit in as well, that would be great as I have never experienced an iem with one before.

Thanks all!

Hey all, thanks for the replies. I have decided to go for the TFZ series 2 after long thought because honestly all the options seems equally good sweat.gif

My question is where can I buy this is Malaysia? I've searched and have only found TFZ series 1 and TFZ series 3, but no TFZ series 2.

ProfessorHi perhaps could shed some light?

Hello, would like some recommendations for iems (possibly headphones, do throw in some thoughts I do not mind) from the folks here. My iems (mi piston v4) are basically very utilised and may fall apart at any moment, and would like some possible replacements. I'm not an audiophile by any means, I will do anything it takes to achieve my ideal sound even if it means using EQ or similar, can't really care less about "listening to the purest sound possible".

If it helps, iems I have used in the past are the ostry kc06a & meeaudio m6 pro not excluding the mi piston v4 of course.

I enjoy sound signatures like the kc06a and of course the piston v4. I.e very mid and treble focused, not much of a "fun bassy sound" but not looking for a monitor-ish sound signature too. Most importantly the mids-highs must not be sibilant and harsh. Are these expectations too unrealistic? sweat.gif

My main usage is just on the LRT and maybe in the library in college while studying or blocking out noise. As my daily commute is an hour-plus one-way, comfort is important. Does active noise-cancellation help for the loud LRT screeching noises? I have also been considering some noise-cancellation too. I prefer iems due to just being used to it, but also I have never had a good experience with headphones cause they always heat up my ears badly and become too uncomfortable after like 10 minutes. However I am open to suggestions for headphones too, maybe it's time for a change?

I listen at 320kbps spotify on phone. Mostly progressive metal (dream theater), symphonic metal (nightwish, epica), death metal (old opeth) but also quite delicate genres like mandopop, cantopop and pop/soul (Sara Bareilles).

My budget is around rm400.

Hope this has helped to narrow down the field. I am a student, so this purchase will be significant and I do not want to make a less-than-satisfactory purchase. Thank you for any input!
