1. Your rig - Desktop, specifically MSI X470 Pro Carbon 2. What type of usage - Gaming first, then music and lastly movie 3. File format used in your source - spotify, MP3 and youtube 4. Genre of music you listen to - generally Metal, and sometimes dance and classical 5. Headphone/ earphone type - either closed or open headphones will do 6. Other requirements - priority on sound, hearing footstep and immersion 7. Budget: my limit will be RM700, might stretch abit depends on the headphones
Additional infos:
My first headphone is currently Superlux HD668B, been using for both gaming and music listening for 2 years now. Now it is suffering from cable problem (right side sometimes suffer no sound and have to tug the cable). I am looking to either an equivalent or an upgrade. So far the current headphones i am looking at are:-
- Philips SHP9500 - Cooler Master MH751 (it is based on Takstar Pro 82) - Audio Technica M40x
I am also planning to enhance my sound experience by looking into DAC Amp, will FX Adudio DAC X6 be a good start ? Thank you.

QUOTE(xxboxx @ Oct 22 2019, 09:46 PM) SHP9500 will be a step up from your current HD668B. Your requirement of "sound, hearing footstep and immersion" means you need to use open headphone to get soundstage. M40X have slightly better high and low than SHP9500 but totally lose on the soundstage. A lot recommendation also for HD58X Jubilee for open back though I personally haven't tried it. Thanks However I read that SHP9600 is coming out soon (not sure when), not sure if I can wait as my 688B's right side sound randomly popping. Will SHP9500 good for music general, especially rock and metal ?

QUOTE(xxboxx @ Oct 23 2019, 03:05 PM) I didn't listen to Metal so can't comment on it. If song like Bawitdaba can consider as Metal then 9500 have better mids and high but lose in bass to 668B especially in deep bass, 9500 sounds too bright for this song whereas 668B with it's deeper bass sounds just right. Meanwhile for All Summer Long song 668B sounds too much echo especially on the starting part, 9500 have more clarity in it's sound. Between these two cans, 9500 is brighter while 668B is warmer. If you like to listen deep bass sound then 9500 is not suitable. thanks again. Nevertheless i am looking forward to try it regardless of the bass.

QUOTE(k!nex @ Oct 23 2019, 07:27 PM) Since you already have a Superlux HD668B , maybe try another one. Superlux HD330. I think its damn worth the money for the price. No harm trying out. But you have to buy an aftermarket earpad to pair with it. The stock one is not comfortable. Overall for your budget , its more than enough money. Being said , i dont like the FX Audio X6. On paper it looks amazing. In my real life testing , i think the DAC part sux , not resolving enough even comparing to a Fiio E10k. Amp side is average. i youtubed up for review and wow, it somehow ticked all most of the stuff i wanted Deeply considering it, and i shall see about the pad first. thanks !!

Good morning sifus,
1. Rig - Xiaomi Mi A3 and PC
2. What type of usage - Movies, games, podcast and music
3. File format used in your source - Any.
4. Genre of music you listen to - Rock, Metal and Industrial, and synthwave as some industrial bands can veer into synthwave.
5. Headphone/ earphone type - Open. Since I mostly use at home.
6. Other requirements (if any) - None.
Further details:-
The current headphones I am using is Grado SR60e, been using since last year as a hand-me-down by my older brother. I enjoy using it on listening to podcast & music, watching movie and play games.
However, during all 3 sessions, using more than one hour causing pain on my earlobes due to the barebone clamp. It is very uncomfortable and I am looking for headphones and does not strain my earlobes. I also have an IEM which KZ-ZSX which I am using in my car and at office.
Games - as I am at uncle age, competitive gaming is not my cup of tea anymore, so I don't need those headphones that let me pinpoint foot steps and such. Thus I would prefer sword clashing and environment destruction sound effect, and grandios in game soundtrack.
As for budget, I set at below RM 1,000.00. I am looking SHP9500 due to how many have said about its comfy-ness, but I wanna try something new and saw the recently revealed Hifiman HE400se. I am not sure where to go from SR60e, whether to upgrade, or looking for headphones that has similar level as my SR60e without hurting my earlobes.
Thanks !

QUOTE(xxboxx @ Feb 22 2021, 08:14 PM) Can read here on HE400se impression https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hifiman-he4...e.948033/page-5sulfuriq same name as lowyat member here. Noted. Thanks !! QUOTE(danny_sp15 @ Feb 23 2021, 06:17 PM) If you don't mind the long wait, can order HD6XX from Drop USA at about 1k. Probably the best open back headphone for the price. But will take weeks or months to arrive, and you'll need an amp to drive it as well. Thanks, I will look into it. I connect to my desktop mostly, and my motherboard spec seem to able to support up to 600 ohm, but then, words are words . QUOTE(sulfuriq @ Feb 23 2021, 09:30 PM) Or probably change the earpad for your Grado SR60e. One of the good product is misodiko. I've changed my 1more Triple Driver with the cloth one and it quite comfortable for hours of listening music and breathable. Previously changed with a lamb skin, too much bass for my comfort. https://www.lazada.com.my/products/i6907722...lFlag=true&mp=1Hifiman HE400SE International Version is an excellent Headphones, its not the same as dynamic headphones. I'm reaching more to HE400SE compare to 1more. Here's the pic of my rig with 1more Headphone after changed the earpad. Quite comfy. Nice ! Funny that I just ordered Misodiko G cushion at shopee today, hope the pad will make a difference. As i am not in urgent to upgrade, hope that HE400se still in stock for this year.

Dear Sifus,
Need suggestion on where to go from here. Currently using Samson SR850, but wondering if I want to upgrade from here, where should I go ?
I generally use this headphones for single player gaming, nothing competitive just immersion.
For music I am gonna put as music in general, cause even though I mostly tune to rock, metal and industrial at spotify, I sometimes look up 80s pop music and classical music for chill.
Lastly, I also use it to watch film.
Thanks !

QUOTE(xxboxx @ Jul 4 2022, 04:04 PM) My suggestion would be to try planar driver headphone. It have noticable different sound characteristic compare to dynamic driver. Hifiman produce a lot planar headphones, some model are priced below RM500. Their sound signature is light on bass, if you feel need a bit more you can change the earpads to pleather or leather. Or one of the most famous headphones, Sennheiser HD650 or Drop HD6XX. I keep seeing that Hifiman HE400se, which is among the "cheapest" planar around. QUOTE(danny_sp15 @ Jul 4 2022, 05:20 PM) Around RM500~RM600, can push further if I can.

QUOTE(danny_sp15 @ Jul 5 2022, 01:36 PM) That pushes the hd650/hd6xx out from the list. Like xxboxx suggested, the he400se should be within your budget. Ath m40x also within budget, but best to give it a demo, as based on your music taste i feel the sound signature might not be what you like. thanks. As i am not in the rush to buy one yet, i would like to come down KL to find a shop to demo. XD Thanks !
