I saw Sony is selling MDR-1Rmk2 for RM649. Just wondering are these worth it even at this "low" price? I'm comparing to the like of HD558 and AT M50, and I know I might be wrong to compare with monitoring cans.

Before this I'm eyeing on the Kingston HyperX Cloud, basically a Takstar 80 with a mic. However it's very much overpriced here in Malaysia. At ~RM400, I think I can get a much better cans.

- Your rig: Asus Xonar U7, AE Aego M
- What usage: FPS Gaming + Music
- File format: lossless, 320k mp3.
- Genre of music: pop song (taiwan, english)
- type: over hear close or open.
- Other requirements: bonus mic, I don't mind if it sound great and do without one.

Currently using my samsung iem that came with the galaxy s4

looking for an affordable (but better) replacement smile.gif
mostly for music. sometimes youtube

budget: ~100
device: galaxy s4 as of now/ laptop when travel
songs: r&b / pop / hip hop (versatile is better)

eye-ing on the xiaomi piston 2 smile.gif

while the Pistons may sound really good for the price, the isolation is really poor. which means you will need to bring the volume much higher to overcome environmental noise = ear damage sweat.gif

Like I stated in my previous, I don't listen to metal. And as stated previously the budget is for a set and not just the the DAP.
Does it make sense to get a Fiio X5 or X3 on headphones like the MS1 or the M50? That DAP is more expensive than the headphones.

I'd like to modify my question to make it easier- whats a decent balanced headphone which is a step up from the MS1 below RM700.

QUOTE(sirknieghf @ Oct 9 2014, 09:27 PM)
hi guys, would like to have a recommendation for a over/on ear headphone

Source:PC, android phone, Ps4
Music type: rock and all kind of music (no!! for R&B or hiphop or rap like today such as justin bieber, nikki minaj etc tongue.gif, ok with eminem ) but mostly listen to artist/band like muse, sum41, armin van buuren, coldplay, instrumental, orchestra, anime/games OST
File type: mp3(using spotify so i assume mp3), flac
Type: over or on ear headphone
Prefer: comfortable to wear for a long period of time, good balance overall, dont like bass to high..maybe more keen to clarity, soundstage..if possible also good when gaming smile.gif
Budget:rm500 ~ 600 max

additional information : i already own a denon AH-C560R iem and love it but if i use for a long period of time my ear starts to feel uncomfortable, that is why wanna get a headphone..also its a big plus if comes with mic so that i can chat when playing on my ps4, without a mic is also ok for me..just wanna know what are my choices with or without mic

thanks in advance notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

Source: Macbook Pro , Note 3, Nexus 7 FHD
Usage: Music
Genre: No specific
File type: FLAC, ALAC
Type: IEM / CIEM
Prefer: Over the ear IEM, easier for me when use for jogging

Budget: RM1500
*
with the exception of 3rd tier CIEMs from China, RM1500 is too low sweat.gif due to the great seal offered by 1st and 2nd tier CIEMs, it is really dangerous to go jogging with them nod.gif perspiration will damage your CIEM without proper care sweat.gif

if you are really into high quality music playback, do suggest that you invest in 2 pairs of IEMs. A really good pair of music appreciation and a cheaper pair for jogging nod.gif

I'm not an audiophile, only listen to spotify. but Shiat..... MDR-Z7, now I'm in love already, the design itself made you fall at first sight. Seem this is the right track. Anyway, I've always wanted to own Beats PRO Infinite Black, loved the color and design (Extra RM250 for the color  sweat.gif  ). But almost all the reviews said, it's not the best bang for your bucks. Almost everything about it is exaggerated especially the bass  rclxub.gif  This true? Anyone here own it?
*
the MDR-Z7 is a pair of premium grade audiophile headphones designed and built for a proper setup from source to player to amp nod.gif it is very revealing which cuts both ways sweat.gif when your audio chain is weak like Spotify as a source, it will amplify all the weaknesses shakehead.gif feed it with a proper source through a proper audio chain, it is amazing thumbup.gif

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Oct 19 2014, 01:03 PM)
Got my Yamaha EPH-100 on last Thursday. can't wait to plug in and listen to it, 1st impression, holly sh1t, this is what the so called 'audiophile' 'balance' 'not fatigue high' kind of sound? so many good reviews on web as well doh.gif and i never bought IEM with so many bucks, immediately feel some regret. The sound to me is : Bass is not as 'bommy' as described or as tested by goldenear. Mid is OK but mid high is harsh to my ear (Oppose to goldenear there is dip in mid high, which is my favourite), high extension is not as 'airy' as i expected.

So i just try the myth method to 'burn-in' the pairs. Still no good result for me...but wait....

The thing turn around today when i swap the stock middle size earpads to 1 step smaller size. I can hear the harsh mid high is now suppressed alot compare to previous but still not entirely satisfy, high is extended and sub bass can be heard now. I realise that's the matter of how close the driver into the canal. So without waiting, i swap to the smallest earpads come with the package and hopefully it can fit my ear nicely. YES, DONE. it fit deep and nicely into my ears, and it compliment what i thought before. The closer the driver to the eardrum, the more bass and 'airy treble' can be heard due to this 2 frequency will decrease proportional to the increase of distance, leave out the mid high that dominance the music. The sound now is soooo nice to my ears even put the EQ in flat mode. Well done Yamaha EPH-100, no more regret now and i'm really please with it. Later will try to do some fine tune using EQ, i believe it would be perfect to me perhaps for few years. thumbup.gif
*
the issue here is not wholly on distance to your eardrums sweat.gif it is the seal nod.gif apparently your ear canal is too small for the standard eartips sweat.gif poor seal = poor bass = exaggerated mid hi doh.gif
