I'm currently running my online book store website on EasyStore. After few months of using it, I've decided to build my own e-commerce website using Wordpress + WooCommerce during my renewal month (4/2015).

EasyStore and other related e-commerce solutions are good for business owners that doesn't have the time to configure and build their own e-commerce website, but the sacrifice will be the flexibility and the ability to expand the feature of the website (yes you can, pay more to upgrade).

I have explored a few open source e-commerce platform such as Magento, OSCommerce, etc and found out WordPress + WooCommerce might be a good choice because it's simple and there are a lot of plugins available to be used for free.

So now I need suggestion on webhosting+domain (for .com.my) service which is good and affordable (budget RM 300 and below). I'm still thinking whether to sign up the EBiz Power Hosting Plan from Exabytes and at the same time explore other more affordable choices.

To web hosting sales agents, I welcome you to post your webhosting+domain packages here. Thank you.

I would advise you to use Opencart. Looking at wordpress security issue, it is not advisable to use it for ecommerce.

Serverfreak is a good choice with excellent support.
The Linux Shared hosting is still within your budget.

Trust me you don't want to limit yourself with 5-10 email accounts, you don't know when you need to create more. smile.gif

I strongly suggest Serverfreaks. Been with them for almost 7 years and their support never fails me.

There was one time my domain got attacked with spams and they help me resolved it with additional security software installation at no extra cost. smile.gif

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll download Opencart and try out soon.

As for security issue, my e-commerce website currently only accept cash deposit/bank transfer and Maybank2u Pay. Is it okay to compromise to this simpler solution if my website doesn't accept credit card payment now?

By the way, after browsing the packages offered by ServerFreak, I'm very interested in the Linux Shared Hosting packages. Might contact your team next year when I want to order the package and transfer my domain. Hope that you'll have promotion when I want to order. smile.gif

Mind to PM me the details or send me the link for more info on your website? I saw there's a RM 0/year package for 100MB but my current domain is currently tied to my EasyStore package.

Thank you for the information. My domain (.com.my) is currently hosted by Exabytes and my renewal month is April 2015 so I won't need it now. As for the SME EBiz Power Hosting, I have browsed through the information and contacted your sales team. Now I'm trying to explore other cheaper and better options since the cheapest package of SEPH is RM 300 with 25 GB HD space and 5 email accounts only.

By looking at the positive feedback, I've decided to transfer my domain and sign up a new web hosting package at ServerFreak. I'm getting more frustrated with the search function at EasyStore that giving me and my visitors incorrect results. I have complaint the issues to them at least 3 times but the problem will come back even after they fix it.

But now I'm considering whether to maintain my existing domain (.com.my) or just use the free domain included in some of the web hosting packages (e.g. Deluxe).

It might be expensive for me to maintain both domains as my business is just a start-up with low volume of sales actually.

Thank you guys for the great suggestion and comments!

I have decided to transfer my domain (.com.my) to ServerFreak and sign up a new web hosting package as well for my new e-commerce website using Wordpress. smile.gif

I'm currently building it on my local machine and getting it ready to be migrated to the real server. Now I can have more products than what I'm allowed to have with existing package!

i want to clarify something. If you are integrating a credit card system in your website, doesn't matter what open source software you are using, you will still need to 'secure' it. There are no software out there that does security for you.

Another thing you might need to be aware is that all credit card facilities provided in Malaysia are similar to Paypal, that is, you do not transact the money from your website, rather, you use their 'secure' website for transaction purposes, so security wise, everything is handled for you. You just need to ensure that you are not hacked but credit card details should be pretty safe.

If Maybank decide to open such facilities and allow you to make a transaction on your website, then, there will be tons of compliances that you will need to fulfilled before anything is approve.

Therefore, just use whatever you think is the best for you and ensure that your website is secure. OpenCart vs Wordpress which is more secure really depends on the human factor of whether it is secure, rather than comparing whether the software is secure as there are all secure.

The real issue here is how 'BIG' the community between Wordpress and OpenCart, and if i were to penetrate your website , i will attack Wordpress rather than OpenCart since my robot will be able to attack more target in the market that are using Wordpress than OpenCart. But you will definitely find more information and community help in Wordpress than OpenCart.

That's not true Axis smile.gif You can handle credit card payment off the website and not worry about compliance
