Hi all,

I'm doing a survey on TGV vs GSC and I hope you guys can give me feedback on the 2 operators. Positive & negative, as long as constructive feedback, especially on their FB & website promotions, contests, etc.

Thanks again!

I prefer GSC ( certain cinemas ) can lift up the hand-rest of the seat (the one to put drinks).

TGV offers couple seat at expensive price where we can do the same at GSC for the normal price.

depends on which GSC & TGV dude.
Each cinema is different. tbh right now GSC price had increased as well.

I definitely prefer those newer TGV like those at wangsa walk than other cinema.

TGV=Lanciu

1) Force you to buy the 3D glasses...and next time you watch, buy again! WTF!
2) Kids seats half price only front rows!! WTF!
3) Useless ticketing system...not as advanced as GSC,

GSC FTW.

Never ever going to TGV. EVER.

TGV - unreasonably charged movie tickets, pricey concession food.
A 1.3hour+ movie with a popcorn set for a couple already cost RM40-50, gila kah?
Havent even look couple seats yet. chi sin priced. already pay so much for the farken movie still have to go through almost 30mins farken advertisements.c'mon la, earn our movie-goers money not enough still wanna earn from ads and force us to watch all the bullshit camera/phone/college ads.wtf

GSC - Cheaper movie tickets, popcorn taste sucks. corn-in-cup better.better and louder speakers/sound. not so much blardy ads. more movie previews is fine.

If you stay in JB area, then you have to opt for TGV between the two. I frequented TGV as it is close to my place. When I come back to my hometown in Sabah, GSC is my choice due to the fact that TGV is non existent. From my experience, GSC is better; reasons are:

-A lot cheaper than TGV
-Better ticketing systems
-More movie selections

While TGV has:

-Cleaner interior and more comfortable
-A more expensive choice comes with better cinema experience

I have no comments on the popcorns. I tasted popcorn as the same. and I have no objections of paying extra if that is what it took to have a truly undisturbed cinema experience.Pick a good seat. Enjoy. I go to the cinema only to watch good films anyway and its like once a month (?) so price is not really a concern for me. My pick- TGV.

I go to TGV mostly for its IMAX.

For the phone app though I'm quite disappointed with GSC's where I can only pay through mb2u or RHB? Something like that. Can't pay with my CC.

Other than that, they are both very similar to me. From online purchasing to cinematic experience I can't really point out which I prefer more.

Can't comment on the food, I don't eat there.

GSC, quite cheap. I'm always buy ticket using Student Card.e
Less ads compared to TGV.
Seat - okay for me.
Popcorn - Not as good as TGV
Website - Quite friendly. I like the Interface compared to TGV

TGV- Expensive for me.
Popcorn the best
Seat - okay.
Website - Need to improve the design

IMO, TGV ticket and popcorn are expensive. And also Sound system in TGV Sunway Pyramid not good as GSC Setia City Mall that I'm always went.

TGV (1u)
Pros:
Couple seats is spacious
Have Chillax for more food options
Royale popcorn is nice but depending on season because some flavours are not so good
Queue for food usually short than GSC

Cons:
Pepsi instead of Coke.
Food & drinks are more expensive
Beanie seats really SUCK!
IMAX in 1u not so good as compared to Pyramid branch

GSC (1utama, paradigm)
Pros:
Cheaper
Coke instead of Pepsi
More movie time
Website design better

Cons:
Couple seats not as spacious
Queue for food usually long

But honestly, I always try to book TGV first although it might be slightly more expensive. 2nd option would be GSC. MBO is my last option as their popcorn really sucks and food choice is SO LIMITED!

Haven't been to movies much these days, but I usually prefere GSC over TGV.

1. Prefer the popcorn at GSC: they were the first with caramel popcorn. Taste still ok. TGV was struggling for a while, but now not bad. Still prefer GSC, they use more caramel. tongue.gif

2. Seating wise, KLCC TGV is a bit old and cramped. Midvalley better. But TGV 1U is not bad now after renovation.

3.

It depends on the outlet. Overall GSC but I prefer TGV at KLCC over the GSC at The Mines Seri Kembangan. During our last movie at GSC The Mines, the room stinked even though the air-conditioner was working. There were actually several foreign construction workers watching the movies there, Bangladeshis or Nepalese, sitting just beside me on the same row. There was this wet stinking smell from the seats due to previously sweaty people who sat on the seats in the cinema. The foreign workers who are frequenting these outlets are not helping either. I do think the cheap price tickets may have contributed to this phenomenon.

The best (cleanest) cinema with nice comfortable seats without the stinking smell is GSC Gardens, and of course it comes with a price, almost double the price of normal screening. The TGV at KLCC is overall cleaner and nicer than the stinking GSC in The Mines. We have scratched GSC The Mines out in our future movie watching. The GSC rooms in Mid Valley are always too packed and looks as if it is heading in the direction of GSC The Mines.

I always use the maxis reward to buy 2 tickets for RM10 at TGV (std seats) if not will go for morning show RM7 per ticket at TGV and just signed up thier movie club for RM28 get 2 complimentary tickets and 2 drinks and a popcorn. Birthday month will get another 2 free tickets with drinks and popcorn as well. Accumulate point to redeem free tickets.

For, GSC will use citibank cc to buy RM10 per ticket.

Frankly speaking I go to cinema for movie not snacks so i usually don't patron the snack bar whatsoever

I like TGV but stopped going to TGV because of 2 reasons:

1. They jacked up their movie ticket prices like mad. Almost RM 20 for a movie, seriously?

2. So strict with their "bag checking" no outside food policy. I feel like I'm entering a prison instead of a cinema if I'm subjected to bag checks all the time. If people aren't buying your F&B products means it sucks. So instead of being a crybaby and check everyone's bag, why don't TGV improve the F&B menu instead?

For TGV, Maybank is having promo; RM10 for 2 tickets on Thursdays. Applies to debit or credit card holders

And with the Movie Club thingy, it's not about spending money without some returns.

Actually Cineplex nicest lah.

But between GSC and TGV, GSC more value and cleaner. TGV too exp. RM36 for one tix for the pacific rims.. when i can get couple seat at Cineplex for rm16..

Actually Cineplex nicest lah.

But between GSC and TGV, GSC more value and cleaner. TGV too exp. RM36 for one tix for the pacific rims.. when i can get couple seat at Cineplex for rm16..

TGV price puts me off.

Sure it comes with free pop corn set and 2 free tickets for first time sign up but it's not a good value and totally waste money as RM30 with 1 year expire date and RM20 for renewal fee always not worth it for everyone, i always do prefer MBO Cinema member card which is free to sign up and it's for everyone.
*
Spend rm200 and the renewal is free. Last year I didn't manage to spend rm200 so they offered to renew at rm10 for a grace period. After the period ends, need to pay rm30. Upon renewal got 2tix & free popcorn combo. You can consider that renewal as a fair trade, imo. Unluckily my place got no tgv. 😫

Mbo food is freaking expensive, imo. If I'm not mistaken, drinks ala carte cost you about rm6. Not to mention the size of popcorns. Small weh. Luckily got rhb rm8 promo.

TGV is value for money.

Loyalty card = 10% points for ticket / food purchase
Maybank RM10 promo for shows before 6pm

Spend RM20 on weekends with Maybank Amex card , get another 5% cashback from maybank.

Spend enough money per year with TGV loyalty card - FOC renewal of loyalty card , comes with 2 renewal tickets + 2 birthday tickets.

Very worth.

GSC - digi RM8.99 ticket promotion

I think both TGV and GSC Cinemas are good, there is a pros and cons of these both Cinemas.

TGV Cinemas

Pros
-Available in Penang.
-Popcorn tastes good.
-Seats are nice.
-Queue for food usually depends on locations.

Cons
-Their member card are expensive! Usually TGV member card costs RM30 for first application, and RM20 for 1 year renewal fee, not a great value and totally waste money!
-Tickets, Food and Drinks are more expensive than GSC, even the Pepsi.
-Bennie seats are terrible! Uncomfortable for longer periods.
-Staff is ok but some of them are rude as depends on locations, TGV BM staff are good but TGV Taiping staff are rude and not friendly.

GSC Cinemas

Pros
-Also available in Penang
-Tickets, Food and Drinks are cheaper than TGV, even the Pepsi.
-Popcorn tastes good also
-Seats are comfortable to sit.
-Membership are free, especially there is no joining fee and renewal fee, great value at all.
-Staff are Excellent in all locations.

Cons
-They use GSC ID (Digital membership) instead of physical member card, Not too bad but not a great solution for membership system since it requires GSC app for phones to collect points with GSC ID.
-Queue Food usually takes too long in all location due to staff busy.

Honestly, I like TGV Cinemas just because they available in AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam, But GSC Cinemas is the best value for money. For me, i usually do prefer MBO Cinemas which has a cheaper tickets, free lifetime membership, more food choices and good seats, the only problem of MBO Cinemas is they are not available in Penang, but they available in Kulim, Kedah.

So...... TGV Cinemas.....Not bad but not good value for money since they are expensive
GSC Cinemas......good but i wish if they have physical membership card instead of the GSC ID.
MBO Cinemas......Excellent but i wish if they are available in Penang especially Bukit Mertajam and George Town.

in term of technology, gsc is better as their have large format (gsc maxx hall) atmos sound system and autogate, which no one check your beg brows.gif

for tgv, imax is very godding. rm10 for maybank. their membership card equal to 10% rebate and also their food is better than gsc.

never went to other cinema for now

TGV pricing is tiered and often unaffordable. Cinemas often very dirty and seats are uncomfortable. That said, biggest reason I opt for GSC is the user-friendliness of its mobile app (which rarely gives me trouble or has glitches)

I’ll opt for gsc anytime and been doing so since last year after tgv decided to hike the price of their ticket up 3 bucks. Tickets are cheaper and food are cheaper too. Experience and seating wise are more or less the same so totally not worth to go tgv.

Movie I opt for 2 things,

Affordability and comfort.

TGV fail in both department. Seats give me a headache, premier tickets dent my wallet.

GSC ftw

Yeah hated the tiered pricing, that's why I rarely go. But the seats are okay, and it's not bad. Just that too costly and I'd be paying for almost 2 movies at GSC on promo, with the price of TGV.

I have no specific preference because both GSC and TGV have promos that suits my needs.

If I want to watch IMAX, I go for TGV.

If I just want to watch a movie with gf, no IMAX or anything, I go for GSC.

However, TGV's MovieClub membership perks are great, free movies, free tickets and popcorn for birthdays and renewals.

GSC has more credit card promos than TGV.

Your statement as same me. So far many cc from SC bank, Citibank and Ambank have promotion for GSC like flat rate ticket, b1f1. TGV only have maybank RM10 before 6pm,which still relevent if you want to watch moview before 6. Any movie after 6pm surely pricey.
And yes, I prefer IMAX over gsx maxx or dolby atmos hall. The dolby atmos hall sometimes okay sometimes bunyi pecah2 (location pavilion) but mytown hall is okay (maybe because the maxx hall, got large format screen)

Also sometimes I like gsc because of autogate, as we can just enter using qr code, which convenient and no need berebut2 masuk sweat.gif

Yep. After complain made, I think 1 week no imax hall appear on ticketing listing. then back to normal. The tgv hq called me apology and said the management of tgv velocity didnt follow the guideline, which still allow people to watch despite the malfunction projector

Yeah, true. Only IMAX have THX trailers.

I heard of the 4DX feature but only available in JB for now. It sounds similar to MBO's MX4D.
