Normal lah. Go and check in 8Mbps streamyx thread. Many of the users say the same thing, "today upgraded to 8Mbps plan bla bla bla speed doesnt reach 8Mbps bla bla blaTM says my port doesnt support 8Mbps bla bla bla".

I agree with above. They only commit "best effort" at 80% of advertised speed, which is their SLA. sweat.gif

"4Mbps package, downstream need 5120kbps. Else u stuck with 3.xMbps++," said one of TM contractor who came to service my line several years back. He helped me activate 5120kbps DS so i enjoyed full 4mbps for about a year rclxm9.gif or so until another line issue. Called TM, they fixed but set only 4096mbps DS. As a result me only get 3.7mbps max until now shocking.gif

No matter how many times i test speed, no matter what time and what day, I only get 3.7mbps max. unsure.gif

p/s: at times, i dunno maybe their "fair usage policy" system down or what, my Steam download can get up to 7.8mbps for few seconds and then slowly back to 430kbps-ish nod.gif

My Maxis Fiber 10Mbps also has that problem, whenever the game starts to download in steam, the speed will go up to 20Mbps for 3s and then drops to 9.8Mbps after that.

I thought it was a standard practice for the TM contractor to set max dl speed at 5120kbps (the contractor is authorised to do that without referring to HQ). next time provide free drink to them when they come to your house. biggrin.gif

You can ask TM to reset your port.

Got a call today from TM, offering upgrade of my 4mb connect to 8mb with Hypp tv for RM140/month plus GST. Am currently paying RM130/month plus GST for the 4mb. Figured that an extra RM10.60/month wouldn't hurt, so I accepted. 2 yr contract, minimum of 7 working days to activate 8mbps, and have to call 100 after activation to see when to collect the Hypp box from TMPoint. The upload speed is still the same...ah well...what to dooo.

I'm on streamyx 2mbps. Recently got a promo rm120 for 4mbps. I straight accept. Now my data rate down is 5120kbps but when speedtest only 2mbps (my previous speed). Called 100 and they reset the port for me but problem still persist.
Anything I'm missing?

Dunno if this applies to yr case:

When I accepted the 8mbps offer, I was told 3 times that it will take a MINIMUM of 7 working days for them to activate the new port. Has it been 7 working days or more since u accepted the offer?

Yup I was told the same. In fact this is the 3rd working day. But today I checked my ADSL status already 5120kbps so I guess they might have upgrade my package. But when Speedtest only can reached 2Mbps.

So a technician came and tried to replace my modem (Asus N12U C1) with stock modem and it works! Speedtest result shows 4.5Mbps. He said my modem got problem.

A lot of time I restart my Asus modem but to no avail. Then I tried to reset and input all my credential again and guess what? It works! sweat.gif

How come like this? sweat.gif sweat.gif

The only explanation why your ASUS router behave like that is probably the QoS feature was set on for a maximum download bandwidth of 2Mbps.

When you reset the router, the QoS feature is set OFF by default, so you enjoy the maximum available bandwidth. smile.gif

ameri raynman's explanation is most logical and plausible.

The TM staff En Arif told me that I need not do anything to my modem, except to restart it after the 8mb port had been assigned to me. This was also the case for when I went from 1mbps to 4mbps. I've never had the need to use the QoS feature before, so mine was always off. Anyways, enjoy yr faster speed! rclxms.gif

That's possible but I've never tinker with QoS settings before.
Nevermind. I'm glad it's solved.
Thank you!
Enjoy your 8 Mbps speed later!
