Not exactly. To simplify it, the modem is the box you connect to the phone line to get an internet connection. You connect the router to the modem to "convert" the internet connection to WIFI.

For streamyx 4mb, TM provides a modem+router combo, basically a 2-in-1 device. However, you can buy a router with more functions, like bandwith control, and hook it up to your modem+router, no problem. I replaced mine with this TP-Link modem router...

my Dlink DSL light is consistently blinking these few days, if manage to connect it will DC shortly after few mins,
upon checking on router page the SNR drop tremendously to 10ish (before that i hv excellent SNR & Attn), and DL cap around 1-1.5k ish, WTF
and weirder, each time connected the stat completely differs,
sometime still getting normal SNR and 5k DL spd.
base on above problem, is it likely my router prob or cabling prob?
not dare to call TM technician as they tend to come bare-handed and find a way to charge rm53

- tried call 100 reset port but doesn't solve the prob
- confirmed no breakdown in my area

Went to TMpoint to complain about my 384K Streamyx can only touch <200K most of the time. My area's Unifi n Streamyx fully taken up n my current 384k Streamyx (rm60+10) is only upgradable to 1MB for rm110. TM finally relented and discounted my existing package from rm70 to rm48. Tested Webe at my place but performance not consistent but sometimes can touch 3Mbps. Will keep these packages until Unifi is available.

How long u have been getting this deal? And u got it from a promotion?
