I'm looking to buy a new monitor but I'm all confused and stumped by all these VGA, DVI and HDMI thingy...  cry.gif

I'm playing with GTX 770 and looking for a monitor with resolution 1920x1080. I've already marked a few monitors but some of them are stated to be Full HD but without HDMI... What is HDMI exactly for? :S

For example this Acer S220HQL Full HD monitor. One comes with VGA + DVI + HDMI, while the other one only has VGA + DVI.

And right now, a seller is selling the same monitor (Full HD) and he stated that it comes with a DVI to HDMI cable. Is it good enough? Will it be full HD overall?

Thanks in advance.  thumbup.gif

dvi and hdmi basically deliver the same output quality except hdmi can carry audio output.. so if your monitor does not include built-in speaker, its kind of pointless to connect it using hdmi.. however nowadays most gadgets using hdmi connections..

This monitor I'm looking to buy only has VGA + DVI ports. But I'll be given a DVI -> HDMI cable. What is the final output? Means I'll have HDMI in the end or does it work like that? sleep.gif

And do I really need it since I'm playing on PC and I use headset, no monitor speakers at all.

so you can use the cable to connect ur gpu via hdmi port to ur monitor via dvi port.. you still can get the best quality for ur gpu and monitor.. it just that ur gpu cant send any audio signal to your monitor.. does not matter since ur monitor does not have any built in speaker or any audio jack..

Currently now my monitor is connected to my GTX770 adapter (as shown in pic). If I've the new monitor with the DVI -> HDMI cable, then there's no way to use my GTX770 adapter. :/

yeah u dont need to use that adapter anymore.. so u was connecting ur gpu to ur monitor via vga port currently.. u should see a better display quality when you are using dvi or hdmi connection with ur new monitor.
