Interesting. Can we perform IBG, let's say from, Maybank2u portal instead of doing it at Maybank counter? If yes, we just key in the fixed deposit account no?
*
I dont think so because you have only a Uob FD account number and May bank portal does not has access to Uob banking system on period of placement, maturity decision interest add on etc

You can perform GIRO over the counter too and same time schedule as per online applies.

For online transfers, only RM10K.

IBG and online same time schedules? I did IBG at the counter before 12 noon and I get the fund within the same day.
Online transfer, I thought diferent bank has different limit??

I missed above the above post earlier.

Over the Counter charges varies but it is about RM2 per transactions. As to your question - "If you don't have Savings Account (or Current Account) can perform GIRO" - I don't know. And yes you can transfer RMXXX,XXX.00 and if not mistaken someone mentioned before more than this via GIRO over the counter. We have in the passed talke about GIRO and RENTAS.

Once again, click here to my article A Little Bit Of This and A Little Bit Of That Vol.1 Chapter IV and scroll down to sub section "InterBank GIRO or IBG Transfer via Over The Counter" to learn more about my experience with GIRO over the counter. See, that is why I published articles relating to credit cards and FD so that I can easily provide in depth info over and over again without me need do explain the same thing over and over again, hahaha.

Ocbc IBG max limit is Rm100k if I am not mistaken.

Anybody aware there is a bank negara ruling when you placed more than 50k, the counter staff want to know where do you get the money?

Why you ask a question that I have already answered? If you don't believe, go lah check yourself, i.e. google GIRO or Inter Bank Giro and you will get below answer:

According to Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation - if one perform before 12.30pm Inter Bank GIRO (IBG) online or over counter before 12.30pm, funds credited into account same day.

And if you had read sylille's post recently, she performed GIRO at Affin at 12.45pm, money also credited into her CIMB account same day(???).
The maximum amount is RM1 million per transaction subject to individual banks terms and conditions.

As for the RM50K, did any bank ask you? For my case, the last two week I have been using personal cheques for 3 different banks' FD Promo and nobody asked me anything about where my funds are from.

However, whenever I go deposit in Citibank Melbourne with Bank Draft, the teller always ask me the source of fund. Not only that, their Sydney office may follow up after few months later and ask the same thing, i.e. source of fund. Once the Sydney office personal called me on my Australia phone number while I was in Malaysia and I did not answer the phone (I was sleeping as there is a time difference) and their freeze my account (I couldn't perform any transactions online)!!! Later I checked my email account and notice an email from someone who was from Citibank (the guy who tried to contact me by phone), I had to email him to get him to call me back. Only after I told him source of my funds only he unfreeze my Citibank Account. And same thing happened to my wife  doh.gif But the funny thing is I performed a TT (very substantial amount) and nobody from Citibank called me to ask source of funds.
Upper limit for all banks in my reply above.

Sorry if there is a miscommunication somewhere. I did mention I IBG before 12 and I get the same fund on same day. But I did on line transfer, I didnt get the fund on the same day, may be I transfered on line during the weekend.

Ocbc Penang branch asked me to Rentas instead of IBG coz the limit is only 100k for IBG. Well with your info. I can probably tell the RM, thanks. I just checked the website, you are correct on the max amount.

Yes, today is the first time I was asked sources of fund. This surprised me that is why I asked. Never have that exerience with other bank.

Just talked to MBB funding exec (they are in charge of FD deals in MBB). The 3.7% 3 mth FD last day today. She said new promo coming for Nov but she was unable to get any info until end of today. Have KFH FD mature today. So have to put in to MBB one first. Then if better promo next week, then have to cancel the 3.7% one. Lazy to go for UOB 3.8% as some distance away.
*
Penang people are lucky. All banks are closed by within walking dstance or if not less than 10 minutes driving distance within down town. UOB is the only bank I know that can allow you to carry out any FD transaction anywhere in Malaysia. UOB Kelawai Rd has free parking and own compound and it is safer too if one carries cash.

On MBB 4% paying updront interest, assuming the interest paid monthly and earn 3.1% monthly, the net interest earn is 4.094%. If not mistaken I saw somebody reported 4.19% or am I wrong? Salute Gen-x energy to read through 66 pages...

I'm trying to put a placement of RM10,000 into Alliance's e-FD. Yesterday I transferred from Alliance to Maybank. And then today , I transferred from Maybank (another account number) back to Alliance. However, this is not recognised as fresh fund. Does anyone know how they calculate fresh fund?
*
Did you transfer to your own Alliance saving account first or straight to e-FD account?

It depends on where you are staying. For those that stayed downtown, they also avoid going to banks in Beach St or Bishop St area as parking is a big headache there. Unless one is staying around there and take a walk there.  biggrin.gif  UOB Kelawei Rd is the one that I maintained an acct. But KFH is in the other end of Penang. So just go to nearby MBB to place the 3 mth FD after closing KFH FD. Cost of transport/time is a consideration for the gain of 0.1% FD (over only 3 mths some more).

Well, the MBB funding exec came to see me and said she will call me when the new promo is known next week. So, he he, may have to terminate the 3 mth FD if the deal is sweet enough. Anyway have split the FD certs so can consider doing termination if needed.

The MBB 4% upfront interest, once you get the interest, depends on where you put it. If you put back to the 4% FD in MBB, the eff rate will be about 4.16%. It will be lower if you put it to <4% FD, higher if you can find another promotion that gives >4%. But take note the minimum requirement for most promotion are 10k, 20k or 25k.  biggrin.gif

But I opted this time not to go for the 1 year MBB FD as anticipating the raise in OPR soon.  rclxms.gif  biggrin.gif

Thanks. I made the mistake on MBB interest payment. Thought is monthly. It seems that those banks such as HL which paid monthly interest for Junior FD,, the effective interet is can roughly add on 0.04% assuming the monthly interest is getting 3.1%.

Found the following useful link on all Penang banking locations..

Got it, seems like the best deal so far is RHB 9months 4.15%...but need to open an account to credit the interest...

Any idea about the minimum deposit and condition to open the account? rm100 or rm1000?
*
I think it is rm20. I have taken up their FD before and was required to open the saving account to credit the interest

Today place 24 months Junior FD at HLB at 4.15%. With interest credited monthly, effective interest is 4.19%

I do have FDs maturing end of this month and the RHB 9 months Promo just nice but I am leaving next week so it will be auto renewed at board rates cry.gif With me flying off every month, really screw up my Musical Chair tempo. Previously got few certs auto renewed at board rates because I was not around (and actually forgot about it even tho I get statements every month, hahaha). This month smarter a bit, went to see my RM and sign the the necessary forms to instruct that the FDs be renewed for 1 month, so next month I come back only go chase after FD promos again.

Another good thing about EPF - if possible, pay yourself max if you own the company or if you are a salaryman, talk to your boss instead of increment/pay rise, ask it to be paid in the form of EPF contribution and you will save yourself some income tax (which will accumulate to lots in the long run) besides getting good interest rates/dividend.
*
May be you can sign up the document and you give RM the cheques ready to be deposited when you are not around. In this way your FD straight away renew to the period you need.

Interesting comment on EPF. This means a person with a company can deposit more than 60k per year? A very useful suggestion.

Bro I never doubted you but the guy who sms you. I added the promo to Post#1 (your quote) even before the photo was shared.
Bro, you are certainly right about writing the cheque, problem is I don't have current account with the bank the FD is maturing. And I'll be away for about a month and the FD only due end of this month, don't know what promo got that time. And I don't trust my RHB RM to get things done, hahaha. Also next month all my children back here, want go make them open FD accounts in several banks and use the funds to deposit.

As for the Max EPF amount I don't know and that's not what I meant. What I meant was instead of paying the standard contribution rate, pay more. What's the standard rate now? I also don't know since no more working for 4 years.

And actually if one owns the company, he should be paying his non working father, mother, wife, children above 18 years old (and mistresses too where applicable) salary of RM4K/month (next year that is the amount one will not need to pay income tax) and maximum EPF contribution and save himself 24% tax (next year or is it still 25% for company? can't remember budget speech) which is way better than FD interest rate, hahahaha
*
Thanks for your suggestion. On top of the 60k limit, I can contribute more...which I never think about it. Always limit myself to 60k.

We are here to share the info. not to sell or make a service out of the forum members. It is very annoying you claim it is better but dare not disclose the actual rate. Is this how UOB operate? I will check with UOB tomorrow on the banking policy on secret advertising.... It really bring down UOB reputation. Even though the rate is higher I wont trust this type of hidden service.

Another special category?

Public bank does not pay interest when FD matures on non working day. But when you make nose, the assistant branch manager or some times the counter girl upon checking with their immedate superiors will credit the interest. I have experienced twice and all get credited.

Under category, non -voluntary credit interest unless appeal? mad.gif biggrin.gif tongue.gif
