I scattered my FD to multiple small FD, ie:

1,000 for 1 month
1,000 for 3 months
3,000 for 6 months

For the purpose of ease of withdrawing during emergency.
It has now grown to extent it is all over the place.
Would you guys take it out and move it to another for the hassle or let it be?

Ie, if a bank offers better rate, when the rate expired, did you guys take out the fund and move to another bank?

I find it a little too troublesome lol

QUOTE(magika @ Oct 17 2014, 03:55 PM)
Depend on the amount loh.. if earn too little then not worth it..
*
Depends on the extra amt earned, effort needed (distance, parking, time spent.....). For me, only if the extra is >RM100 then I would do it. smile.gif

Distance/parking will deter me and warrant a bigger "earning". biggrin.gif

Hi all sifus here,

My current FD is placed with PBB at an super low FD rate. Can i withdraw tat FD in bank draft and put in into my saving account with CIMB and make a bank draft in CIMB immediately or instantly with tat fund, so that my fund now come from CIMB instead of PBB, in case the MBB branch i going to visit insist my FD fund for the under counter 4% FD must be from tat 3 banks.

Thanks all.
*
QUOTE(magika @ Oct 18 2014, 09:19 PM)
Bank draft is like cheque need time to clear. Why not go direct to MBB and find out? I thought 4% dont need fund from 3 banks?
You can Rentas it in the morning, and be able to buy Bank Draft in the evening. Alternate option Giro across but got slight delay.

Refer to 1st page, Uncle Ah Boom post.
*
Ask the MBB branch first. My experience is some branch may insist the fund is from the 3 banks. But some may just ask you if you have acct in the 3 banks. So ask first. The bigger the amt, the less issue you have with the MBB branch. MBB branch are competing to get funds as well. biggrin.gif

Just saw the note below on UOB online banking FD page. Looks like no uplifting online if FD done in branch.

Note : Fixed Deposit withdrawal via UOB Personal Internet Banking is only applicable for Fixed Deposit placed via electronic banking channels, i.e UOB Personal Internet Banking, UOB 121 Phone Banking and UOB ATM.

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Oct 19 2014, 11:35 PM)
This is good security measure if you ask me.
*
So far my experience is CIMB can place online and withdraw/terminate online. CB & PBB can place FD online but cannot terminate online.

Good and bad points. smile.gif

Edited to remove MBB.

Hi Goat Goat, not true, MBB can uplift e-FD online as well.
*
I did not find any links to stop the eFD. Unlike CIMB which has one so at any time you can terminate the eFD. Do MBB has that ? hmm.gif

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Oct 20 2014, 09:04 AM)
Bro, I'm not sure about termination. But for MBB eFD, when placing the eFD, I set it to credit into my SA upon maturity. My eFD in MBB is standby fund to pay for my credit cards bills.

*
Terminating it on maturity and go to SA should not be an issue. That is not uplifting but set to terminate on maturity, right ? biggrin.gif I am referring to terminating when needed. CIMB has a link so that even after the maturity and auto renewed, you can terminate it at any time. smile.gif

For CB & PBB I cannot find such links for eFD, not mentioning normal FD placed OTC. smile.gif

Edited as MBB has uplifting option.

For FD, most banks can accept cheques right? Planning to go Hong Leong later......

Yes, cheque accepted. For HLB be careful if you are placing for HL Islamic FD, the effective day is 2 days later. You lose out 2 days interest !

Got la, at the e-FD upliftment page there can uplift even when ur FD havent reach maturity date yet.

You go maybank2u play play and see, got one.  nod.gif
*
OK, play play as suggested by kina. Saw it now. Earlier only look at "FD online" link. biggrin.gif Never uplift from MBB before.

CIMB eFD uplift is much easier. So have to play play more to discover more hidden links in bank website. tongue.gif

Similarly for the 4% upfront interest. Some MBB branch may just ask if u have acct in the 3 banks. Just few posts earlier, another forummer said the MBB branh did not even ask ! biggrin.gif

Standard bank draft charges apply. Use giro will be cheaper.

If needed to use the fund to place another FD (on the same day), would prefer the banker's cheque. GIRO then issue cheque have to worry on cheque clearance. Just like BR case. Can only GIRO, cannot get cheque. Wasted 1 day. smile.gif

Sorry just noticed this is already mentioned by Gen-X and supposed to end 15 Oct. But when I walked in Am bank yesterday, i was offered ths promo.

HL bank recently increased their FD rate by 0.1%. 12 months pure FD reported earlier 3.85% now is 3.95%.

Surprisingly BSN (bank simpanan nasional) also joined in for the FD race. 3.95% for 12 months but 15% to be kept in saving account. The only plus point is the Korea lucky draw trip.

OCBC Penang premier banking section is expanding. Should be operational by next month. Was told it will be the biggest premier centre in entire Malaysia. May be there will be FD promotion to attract premier customer.

With the GST implementation next year and expect the infation rate moves up from 3+% to 4-5%, very likely Bank Negara will increase the OPN in very near future. My personal opinion is dont lock in for too long period, best is 3 months. Am Bank 5 months will be a good choice too.
*
HLB incleased their rate to 3.95% ? Good. Just weeks ago, their HL Islamic FD 13 mth 3.9% vs HLB 12 mth 3.85%. So now HL Islamic 4%, 0.05% more than conventional ? hmm.gif Need to confirm that.

With SCB closing their FD promo, UOB 12 mth 4.05% probably is the best at the moment. Well, BR, non PIDM 12 mth 4.1% is better if you have the stomach for non PIDM.

For short term FD, MBB "under counter" 3 mth FD at 3.87% still the best. Though I have placed for AmBank 5 mth at 3.85% before I learned of the MBB deal. smile.gif While writing this post, received call from AmBank that this deal is extended until 6th Nov.

Ah Boom, just saw below from post 2:

"May Bank 4% for 12 Months[/u], up-front FD interest + gift - New added by RO Player on 30 Sept - (This May Bank promo has ended. Updated by bbgoat on 1 October)"

Top Cat is the one that alerted us on the MBB upfront interest deal. I placed the FD on 1 Oct when they said it was the last day. It has been extended with changes on the terms. From what has been reported, it may not be ended. smile.gif

They also explained to me in detail Aspire & Premier Wealth privileges.

Depends on the bank and the amt you place. Some banks like BR used to give all kinds of gift for FD placement, like Parker pens, backpack, bags, manicure set, cups, etc. Other banks umbrella is a common item. biggrin.gif

Hope i will remember to uplift it when it matured.
*
Did you get the FD promo from the eFD ? My impression is eFD do not have promo most of the time, I may be wrong.

For me, the FD promo earns more but just have to go to the bank. But for some, may not bother the extra from the FD promo. brows.gif laugh.gif
