Wonder if I should take the opportunity (while waiting for my countertop) to use silicone to seal all the exposed wood fibre.

One to seal off the smell of wood and the other to seal off moisture. What do you think?

Paging my sifu ozak for his advice 😀
*
no need waste silicone, won't help much if only seal one portion. If really want use lacquer better but bear in mine your material is 'strong absorbent' type..not sure it will kembang or not after absorb any coating.

typically brand and price which come to colour selection and durability....

Cheapest would be from china which 80% contractor is pushing it to their customer due to affordable cost for customer...rest you have korea stone (you will suprise if i tell you Samsung and LG also have their own quartzstone (OEM or not i dunno), then Dupon Japan....also Italy...like Celestone, Ceaserstone (which quite popular)..

Each brand have their cheap and experience variant based on colour and pattern...

my recommendation is get your contractor to quote you first (but you need know detail what brand, model number etc)...then you can COMPARE directly with quartstone vendor/supplier like http://solidtop.com.my

Possibility you get cheaper price from contractor coz they vendor to vendor they have their own rate vs vendor with customer (end user like us)...

i hope you understand what i meant here wink.gif

Oh ok. Ya i do know got many different types of quartz in the market. My concern is I won't know the difference if the contractor quoted me one brand but installed a cheaper type.
*
1. U fully trust your contractor
2. U take leave and arrange yourself be there during installation + ask for proof its the correct brand and model you want...AFAIK, each brand has it own unit model/pattern....you wont find same on other brand.

If you are concerned then get international name brands like Silestone or Caeserstone. Buy direct from authorized dealers or or trusted kitchen makers.

I'm putting Caeserstone in mine. Got it from http://www.surfaces.com.my

which colour you using (code) and how much your contractor charging you psf or fr ?

I got Rm380 pfr which I locked in almost two years ago. Now not sure liao. Wait for Archidex, usually got offer around then.

I heard Silestone can get some pretty good prices if you want black. But I rather not use Silestone due to their antibacterial coating

light and dark colour usually more expensive...

Anybody encounter a situation where the plug point is outside the cover box of the hood? Mine is a few inches away. That means my wire will be showing. I don't mine it showing but how the heck do I get the power cable pass the hood's cover box? Drill a hole? And the power cable has its own 16amp plug. I can't make a hole big enough to pass this plug top thru.

can show pic ?

Actual situation with my cardboard template representing hood
(to scale)

See the plug cover on the left? That's where the power cable is hidden now. Will replace it with a 3 pin socket.
*
if i remember correctly there is allowance on the cover or the lower portion of the hood which allow the power cable to pullout > to connect to plug which is 'outside' of the hood...

ya plaster ceiling is there already
*
If i get your statement right, mean the cover will pull all the way up to the celing or below the ceiling you will have cabinet...so your hood cover will connect to cabinet and alumimum vent hose will pass thru your cabinet to your ceiling ?

If that is the case, most likely you need to use this for our wiring...

This Island cost few thousand becoz of the quartz cover until floor. Those are just normal quartz, not caesarstone or something, the glass penal are request by owner coz he feel 1 pcs look too plain, so making 4 pcs, well, of coz, this is personal preference.
*
i presume overall is 'cosmetically' look nice instead of quality and durability...from grade of material use ?? pardon me for asking this...

yeah...it may be client budget...this is what he/she gets...

Hi Guy,

Want to clarify between ABS Melamine and Acrylic Kitchen Cabinet, which one last longer and cheaper??

Contractor quoted me ABS Melamine and mention that Acrylic is a cheaper type is compare to ABS. Is this true? Cause ABS is actually chipboard which is consider cheap material right?
*
Get plywood with laminate surface if budget allow. Melamine will kembang if kena air or too much moisture...alot chipboard. ABS is plastic.

my suggestion is skill solid wood with paint and plywood with laminate (formica) IF budget allow.

AFAIK, price of chipboard vs plywood is about 20-30%.

Plywood can get WET/Wash and won't kembang....
