for many, of course the feel of upset (even just a little) will be there. but there must be a reason for he/she to get a better increment / promotion or some sort of recognition. if he/she is not as good. then, you got a lousy boss. ((side note: having a lousy boss is 1 of the most common issue why a person resign...))

sometime judging your colleagues ability with "year of working experience towards this company" is totally wrong perception. who know what he have done in the past is greater advantage then you. even though, he/she is fresh, it doesn't mean you (who have worked there longer then him/her) are better. this is called competition!!

"see it as a motivation"!! hmm... depends. some may take it as motivation, but a lot have taken it upsetly and became de-motivated. why? because this is the culture we are in. it is just the matter of how fast the guy recover from demotivation or he will not be (>>resign, as a result).

anyway, what's your feel, then? it happen to you (topic starter)?
