finally someone started this N4 thread... smile.gif

Can't decide get this or Edge
*
for me... no brainer. if want something that people will talk about... edge.

but if want something that is practical, note4.

taken from the OnePlus One thread, my opinion on edge:
QUOTE(mydragoon @ Sep 4 2014, 09:43 AM)
#1. i'm surprised no one's started the official Note4 thread yet...

#2. nice and innovative but i doubt its practical. not going to be easy to hold.

#3. applying SP is not going to be easy, especially a one piece SP. same goes for a case...

#4. if no SP and case, replacing broken display isn't going to be cheap

#5. the edge screen which people say can be used for news tickets, etc... that area is already being fulfilled by wearable accessories.

so my conclusion... nice niche item. but unlikely it'll take off in its current form. maybe the screen at the top instead?

Wonder how big is Samsung charger head? Oppo unit is big and average 50%-80% bigger than most other phone

i read one article... the writer spoke briefly and unofficially with Samsung staff, seems using Qualcomm QuickCharge (technology) compatible chargers will also work and give similar results.

any info on availability yet?

samsung said available in Oct... i guess for Malaysia, maybe end Nov to Dec... smile.gif

personally for me... i wish Samsung cut down or somehow give us option to remove the bloat and un-necessary stuffs like all the hubs and KNOX.

i feel they should not try to do everything. there are plenty of good enterprise security out there. if people want to use it, let the user's company decide. example of such application is Mobile Iron. no need to bog down the phone with all extras which most consumers won't use anyway. no doubt its got fast processor, but if not necessary, then dun let it run la.

i wish there's an AOSP version (maybe Google Play edition) that has got the s-pen applications. that's all i need.

From: http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/03/samsung...ote-4-hands-on/
The charger at least comes with fast-charging capability and the phone maker claims that the battery will charge 30 percent faster when you use the charger that comes in the box. I clarified with Samsung that it chose a proprietary solution instead of licensing Qualcomm's QuickCharge tech, but it insisted that you could still use QuickCharge 2.0-compatible chargers to achieve the same results.

easy... ppl complain because its always easy to whine. ask them what they want (like below) and...

hmm.gif many say note 4 disappointing and looks alike, what exactly are u guys looking for?
Mind sharing?
*
yes, very good Q. honestly, many here complain for the sake of complaining. when asked what they want... they really don't know. or perhaps what they want isn't something technically feasible or possible... like maybe put a 5.7" screen into a 4.7" body, or want a 5.7" phone that lasts a week and can read mind, make coffee, etc...

seriously, if they look at what is currently available (the technology) they should realise there's nothing much at the moment but just incremental. we've reached the stage of maturity similar to the PC (till the next bit tech comes along to change things). we can only expect perhaps lower prices (then again, with GST, etc... flat chance).

not many talking about the VR feature.

personally, I'm also not into VR. but one article I read regarding note 4 is interesting. it talks about John Carmack's involvement when it comes to VR for note 4.

seems like he may have helped/ suggested certain performance improvements. not sure if this is only for VR or applicable for general use well.

VR still very niche in market. If it perform well and up to it's expectation I might get one. Oh wait, doesn't work with Note Edge  sweat.gif
*
yes, VR is niche and I don't even see a need for it.

but the headset... might make a nice home cinema experience.

but more importantly, John Carmack's involvement which I think helped make note 4 performance even better.

"At the start, the first couple months were so frustrating. When I'm talking about how we need front buffer access. We need the ability to draw directly to the screen without this triple buffering. And the way the logjam got resolved was I figured out a way to incorrectly hack the first phone to give me what I wanted through this really obscene programming thing. And I showed it to some driver people later and they were like, 'Oh god, John. That's awful!' But it worked well enough to show that, okay, front buffer rendering -- this works. It cuts out two frames of latency. It's important.

And I had argued for it a long time. I wrote so many of these multi-page emails about how important it was. But once we had it so people could see and see that it really does work, then Samsung went and wrote a proper interface for it. They gave me a good extension that gets me access without the grotesque things I was doing. And really that was -- once the ice was broken, they knew that these are good suggestions; these suggestions lead to real improvements. Then they started giving me things I didn't think I'd be able to get."

This is the first Note that interest me.. Anyone of u here always use the s-pen?what do u usually do with it?
*
I'm not into drawing... so those pressure stuff useless.

but I use it a lot to crop stuff from the screen and then share/ edit. yes... that's how useful it can be. for me anyway.

and ya, during meetings, use it for note taking.

I still can't live without the s pen. so, as tempting as other points might be (like the OnePlus One) I'm still hooked to note series.

imho... i think edge will be around. but it'll be quite nice in its current form. display at side may not cut it. i'd think better to have the display at the top. but... that means the earphone port, etc needs to be moved. or unless Samsung decides to bundle with good stereo BT earphones and eliminate earphones port. smile.gif

I had never really like Samsung Super Amoled displays due to its over saturated n "fake" colors. This review is interesting n I look forward to seeing the real stuff

Sure, phones like the Galaxy S4, S5, and Note 3 came equipped display modes designed to make things look more 'natural', but truth be told, in reality, those modes never did much in order to fix the issue of AMOLED's overly cold and greenish color character.

cold and greenish... i'd assume means blue and green.

hmmm... my experience with AMOLED is more on the warmer colours -- yellow, orange, red. i thought these were the colours that make the screen look "brighter" and more colourful???

probably kinda obvious, but thought it'd still be good to share..

note series isn't really a single-handed device. after all, it's got the s-pen and the s-pen is what makes note series stand out and be a unique phablet.

honestly, this type of Q is hard to answer.

if you wear those tight jeans... like those GT girls, even a small phone pun susah mau masuk la...

me... these days, i use cargo pants. banyak pocket for gadgets. smile.gif

but regular jeans... also fine. i have no issues putting the phone into jeans.

QUOTE(Andrewtst @ Sep 8 2014, 02:18 PM)
AMOLED always greenish until Note 3 start better. In S5 it is really great already. But default color preset always much punchy color and out from real color range. I do like it except the Galaxy Tablet S seems over or maybe the screen too big make me feel headache. i can accept AMOLED but I still much prefer IPS LCD as of now. I hope Note 4 is as review mention accurate color and won't feel weird in basic mode and not over saturation in auto mode.

This is standard in AMOLED already and Samsung will continue using it diamond pattern. It is hardly seen the different at FHD via naked eyes and completely unnoticed in QHD.
*
wow... seriously, i always thought the fake colours was due to the warmer colours like RED, YELLOW and ORANGE. never noticed it is greenish/ blueish. been using note 1 and then note 2... never noticed it. and i watch quite a fair bit of movies... heh heh... well, maybe like i always said... i'm not that fussy... but i do like the colours on AMOLED rather than those on non-AMOLED. when i look at the non-AMOLED, they look abit 'faded'.

Samsung's Gear VR headset will reportedly cost $199
http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/7/6118293/s...r-headset-price

Samsung's Gear VR virtual reality headset will cost $199, according to a report from VentureBeat, although that doesn't include the cost of the Galaxy Note 4, which works as the headset's screen. The Oculus-powered Gear VR, officially announced Wednesday, is designed to wrap around the Galaxy Note 4. The headset is wireless and powered by the phone.

Oculus also said this week that the consumer version of the Rift headset will cost between $200 and $400. On the surface, that sounds like the two headsets are competitively priced, but you have to account for the cost of a Note 4. An official price for that hasn't been announced, although it's rumored to be $799, or $299 with a contract.

usd199 seems like a decent price.

Then again, standalone Rift headset, as per article above, may start from USD200. getting standalone means at least the VR set is not dependent on something (the Gear VR currently works only with Note 4).

However, advantage of Gear VR is that its wireless.

how useful is this? personally for me... not useful. but if i had to choose between this or edge, i'd go with this instead of edge (sorry note edge...)

edit 1: ouch, no audio... will need own earphones plugged into note4... what the...?!? tongue.gif

didn't experience any over heat issue on samseng phones. slightly warm but not a big deal.

reason those were sold off quickly because cannot accept top spec phone can still lag on basic functions.

am not sure abt other brands becos spent almost rm200 on the 64gig sd card.

what is meaning of freedom? is it to do geeky stuff like changing fonts, colors or pirated software, etc?

tried z1c and z2 before, the software has many bugs. don't know whether they had fixed it ady.
find7, nope didn't try.

it's not bashing. just learning. if samseng make a smooth phone, surely it will be good.

no interest in nexus 5 bcos never owned one. but i read a few reviews that the features are limited, camera sucks and battery life is awful.

freedom. phone out of the box. u take a photo. can share with me via BlueTooth?

i don't like the default/ stock keyboard. i prefer to swipe. can i do that with the phone you have in mind?

my friend made a good home video and its on a Sandisk Dual Thumdrive (the one with regular usb and microusb ends). can i plug into my phone, copy the video and watch on my phone immediately?

my 32GB phone is running out of internal storage. can i plug in a 64GB microSD card and give myself more space?

not just buying samseng. but try out other brands flagships as well.

but nobody can deny that iphone is overall better smartphone, from beginning until today.

just hope one day the samseng boys can catch up.

but n4 is a dissapointment, with no innovation, very similar to n3 (which is nothing much different from n2).

note edge seems to be somethg new but sadly, they don't dare to launch it fully. just test water only.

ppl nowadays use wassap, but u still got choice, either email, icloud or dropbox. bluetooth pairing takes some time and also got security issues

i don't like the default/ stock keyboard. i prefer to swipe. can i do that with the phone you have in mind?

swipe is needed bcos android has poor typing experience, and bad predictive algorithms. so swipe was the make-fix. but with larger screen phones swipe becomes a bit silly because need both hands to hold it anyways

my friend made a good home video and its on a Sandisk Dual Thumdrive (the one with regular usb and microusb ends). can i plug into my phone, copy the video and watch on my phone immediately?

android is suitable for this purpose. but do u do this often enough

my 32GB phone is running out of internal storage. can i plug in a 64GB microSD card and give myself more space?

it is same question if u got 1 tb of space requirement, what do u do?
yeah, most android phones got external mem support but surprisingly, not the nexus series!
sd cards are insecure and prone to malfunctions. u shld do a proper file management housekeeping.

*

whatapp reduces the filesize. not everyone uses iCloud. not everyone uses DropBox. won't it be good if i could just touch the phones and "beam" the photo? and seriously... that guy is in front of me now. i need to tell him that i can only share with him by uploading it to the cloud or send via email? yes, they do achieve the purpose... just like you can go and dig your nose by making your hand go round the back of your head first. technology is to make life convenient.

swipe is needed bcos android has poor typing experience, and bad predictive algorithms. so swipe was the make-fix. but with larger screen phones swipe becomes a bit silly because need both hands to hold it anyways
i swipe perfectly on my note 2. its a BIG phone. in fact, i find swiping much easier than touching the letters on a keyboard. this is called improvement. swiping is a gesture that is derived from touch interface. very much like how we swipe left, right, pinch, etc... pressing on buttons is based on hardware keys like what we had with those old phones. some keyboards with swipe feature... you don't even need to lift your finger and it can actually do a complete sentence (including space bar). that's progress and that's also why Apple realised it and now allow 3rd party keyboards.

please learn to accept and embrace change.

android is suitable for this purpose. but do u do this often enough
yes, i do share files this way. OTG. thumb drives. microSD. you asked for the meaning of freedom. hence, i am giving you explanation on what freedom is all about on Android. and more.

it is same question if u got 1 tb of space requirement, what do u do?
yeah, most android phones got external mem support but surprisingly, not the nexus series!
sd cards are insecure and prone to malfunctions. u shld do a proper file management housekeeping.

house keeping is an excuse for people who don't have the storage. i have the storage and i should be entitled to do what i want with it. again, this is freedom. freedom of choice. i can choose a phone with microSD if i like it. or i can go with a nexus if i prefer the cloud. and seriously... insecure? i've yet to hear of mass security breach due to photos stored on microSD card... but i recall recently about some photos "stolen" from iCloud.

it boils down to user. smart use know how to use the smartphone.

but more importantly... its about freedom. freedom to choose what i want. be it 5" phone. or 7". or with microSD or not. or whether i can swipe.

Our javier here is getting pissed off replying in big bold red letters. Cool down ! IOS vs Android is a never ending debate. I have used both platforms n both have its pro n cons.
I am unlike some "die die" will argue one is better than the other
I would say is just choose which OS meets your needs better
Both are developing platforms. If one can afford just get one of each OS
Only thing I dont quite like Apple fans is most of them think they are smarter users vs Android!! See some of those fanatical posts at ip6 threads.
How fans will praise is something sometimes quite unbelievable eg recent Apple Watch. Personally it is ugly to me with its crown at its side. But than the praises of it is just unbelievable - innovation , innovation. Anyway i have no interest at all with such wearables. It is good Apple fans love it
*
yes, agreed that both platforms have their pros and cons though both platform seems to get identical with each iteration, like Apple becoming less strict and opening up whereas Google is closing and locking down more some aspects. smile.gif

ultimately, it's the choice of the person who will buy and use the phone.

when people ask... i share with them what i think. both are good in their own ways and i have send a fair share of people towards Apple as i have sent to Android.

to each his own.

and again, this is what i mean by "freedom". we can choose how we use the phone. smile.gif
