Let me share a little, I remember started watching when Lee Sharpe, Irwin, Pallister, Steve Bruce, Robson, McClair, Kanchelskis, even traitor Ince... Good old times.. I'm in my early 30s... So I really love MUFC..
*
Same time!!! Kanchelskis and Giggs (or Sharpe) on the wings, Cantona and Hughes in front.

Those days EPL highlights show every week on TV = must watch biggrin.gif

That wasn't really a strong midfield in reality compared to on paper.

CR7 was still developing, Giggs was in a serious slump. Keane was already downwards. Scholes also had some health issues if not mistaken. Something about his eyes.
*
Yep.. the 99 midfield lineup was at a better place (compared to the later one). All at their peak.

You are right, i'm not expecting thumping wins, crazy passes, crazy shots and total domination at first.

But I'm expecting at least a change in mindset and more linked passes and more coherent team with better back 3 or 4 depending on what formation we play.
*
Not yet. International week = everyone is away training and playing with their national team, so no chance to train with club teammates. So don't expect any improvement on team cohesion and understanding yet.

At best individual players confidence might be a bit improved a bit since they've been away and time has passed since the last game(s) and poor results.

I see all those reports about Man Utd is mad for selling welbeck.. But I don't see Welbeck doing any good in the squad after coming in the first team for so long.So he has few good games.. But seriously, just because he is an English player, ppl are making a fuss about it. He may shine in Arsenal, who knows, but without making this move, he won't improve himself as well in Utd. That's what I think...
*
People make a fuss because he is English and he came thru the academy ranks. You're right though, if he didn't move there is little or no chance he will improve with us since he will basically be on the bench most times.

It was for the best, no doubt. Just the sentimental effect is hard.

Looks like the plan it to continue to trim the squad/wage bill. Improve quality, reduce quantity.

Top 3.. quite the confident optimist!

different formation we can employ...by the authors:

TLDR: LVG has MANY options to choose from for attack now. Midfield improved as well (albeit missing 1 CM to dominate ala Strootman/Vidal level).

Defense should be... interesting though, especially CB.

Evans not showing confidence and form so much recently.
Jones injured, dunno how serious.
That leaves Smalling, Blackett, Rojo, former soso and other 2 are newer to the 1st team.

Rooney was also moved around a fair bit. Think he also looked at his performance in training and pre-season, not just at his record tongue.gif

As much as I hate Welbeck leaving, but if sacrificing him allows us to give James Wilson more chances, I am all for it.
Welbeck suffers for his versatility being forced to play on the wings at times.
*
Not only that. His finishing ability is below RVP/Rooney, so obviously they're gonna be ahead of him as picks for striker positions.

2 goals in 1 game. The Arsenal Effect. tongue.gif

HOnestly, I hope he does well at Arsenal. Just not when playing against MU.

When Ronaldo came to prominence (around 2006 onwards) Rooney basically went into more of a supporting role to Ronaldo for a few seasons. Him and Tevez were like energizer bunnies causing havoc while Ronaldo did his thing.

Think he only became the focal point again after Ronaldo left (he had one super good season of 30+ goals before getting injured vs Bayern in the CL).

2011/2012 he scored alot again, somehow we lost title on goal difference  doh.gif  rclxub.gif  Then RVP come, Rooney become supporting role again, we win title  shocking.gif

Why ar Rooney supporting role = we win title, but Rooney main scorer = we lose title,  rclxub.gif
*
That's cos his form is so patchy. When on form he will be hammering in goals, superb for fantasy football captain. When he loses form... sadness.

Obviously a main man with more steady/consistent scoring form will be better for the team results.

His playing style needs work. Too much "superman" heroic tackling and stuff. Needs to learn to read/anticipate better i.e. learn the LVG filosofi and play with brain, not just legs.

QUOTE(damnself @ Sep 15 2014, 10:29 AM)
Former United player Rio Ferdinand blasts David Moyes as 'embarassing'

Rio Ferdinand has lifted the lid on the David Moyes era at Manchester United and described some of the tactics used by the former Old Trafford manager as 'embarrassing', in comments taken from his new book "#2Sides".

Ferdinand returned to Old Trafford on Sunday for the first time since his 12-year stay at the club ended last May, only to see his QPR side beaten 4-0 by a revived United. Yet it was his comments surrounding Moyes that will dominate the agenda after that game.

No United player has spoken out against Moyes in the months since he was sacked as Old Trafford boss, but Ferdinand climbed over that wall of silence with a highly critical assessment of the Scot's tactics during his troubled ten-month reign as the club's manager.

"He tried to impose a vision, but never seemed to be completely clear what that vision should be," writes Ferdinand in his book that is being serialised by the Sun. "Unintentionally, he created a negative vibe where, with Fergie, it had always been positive. He'd slowly lost us. I didn't enjoy playing under him.

"Sometimes our main tactic was the long, high, diagonal cross. It was embarrassing. In one home game against Fulham we had 81 crosses! I was thinking, why are we doing this? Andy Carroll doesn't play for us!

"Moyes's innovations led to negativity and confusion. It was always how to stop the other side. Moyes set us up not to lose. We'd been accustomed to playing to win."

Ferdinand also revealed how Moyes dropped him for last season's Champions League quarterfinal clash against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, after the coach told his veteran centre-back in front of his teammates that he was leaving him out because he wanted more pace in his defensive line.

"It killed me," added Ferdinand. "Inside I wanted to scream and grab him. I'm a team player, so I just had to bite my tongue and stand there.

"It was probably the worst single moment I ever had at United. I'd never been dropped for a big game like that - and to drop that on me in front of everybody."

Past is the past, let's look forward smile.gif

Good win, 4 goals and a clean sheet and a lot of debuts (and home debuts) for the new guys. Hopefully the team can build on this and work on momentum ! smile.gif

Random note, no need to be so negative about some players wei tongue.gif

After a good result can still see people condemning Rooney and Mata (former got a goal and an assist, latter got a goal too). Obviously there is always room for the players (and team) to improve their performance, but when the result is positive and the players deliver goals.. no need to be so brutal la tongue.gif

Even Evans (who has taken deserved flak for his poor form recently) saved DDG!

Seriously ppl rating blackett ahead of Evans?
He has potential but Evans was our main cb in that match. He didn't made a mistake while blackett let the ball bounced and the striker thru
*
Fans being harsh! Actually all our CBs got room to improve in terms of their form and performances, so no need to be overly brutal in flaming them tongue.gif

Blackett is promising, no doubt. Hope he can continue to improve and cut out that kinda error from his game (and also improve his passing game a bit). Probably just needs time under LVG.

Evans is 26, he needs to work on cutting out his errors / lapses. Don't know if it's an attention thing or something else but that is what is hurting him. Smalling kinda has the same issue, he can deliver solid performances but is prone to lapses at times. They both can deliver good performances (good ceiling) but they need to raise their minimum level (floor) to a better consistent level.

Jones on the other hand needs to adapt his play-style so he doesn't need to be so gung-ho all the time and get injured quite so much... else he will lose out in the long run in terms of fulfilling his potential due to his time out with injuries.

Rojo is very aggressive according to Herrera.. which is good. We need some aggression in our defense, can't be reactive and passive. Smalling and Evans have both conceded goals due to this at times. You know, the kind where when you see the replay they have their eyes on the player/ball but are a step or two too slow or not proactive enough in trying to deal with it? That kinda thing. Could be an issue with improving their reading of the game, could be them being too slow to react, idk.

Arsenal carved out two clear opportunities for Danny Welbeck and the £16m man’s finishing was so inept that one effort was off target and the other did not even register with Uefa statisticians as an attempt on goal. Manchester United’s manager, Louis van Gaal, was damning in his analysis of the 23-year-old’s goal record and on nights like this when chances are all too rare – he missed a third after the interval

Kesian for Welbeck, he probably needs his first goals for them before his confidence gets a boost.

ESPN really kutuking them nicely with article about same old problems, even compared BVB to Arsenal circa 2004.

Padan muka for the troll(s) trying to show off their qualification to us with sig in our thread, LOLOLOL.

*
Funniest part is at least one of them is so "smart" to think we are "celebrating" their loss as if it's big news..when actually it feels like every season they have the same game vs BVB.

The only reason we are even talking about their game is because they came here to troll us and show off pre-game biggrin.gif

You give a lot of credit to say majority are decent, there might be a few level heads but based on all the stuff they've been saying since pre-season about LVG and the club.... *smh sadly*

Too many behave macam insecure teenage schoolgirls je.
