Introduction

user posted image

When it comes to network security a good networking device such as router plays an important role in protecting your personal files in the computer and keeping away those malware and spyware as well. Asus is known for their high quality PC components and the same goes for the network equipment. Once again they provide me this bad boy for a little walk.

GUI Comparison

Lulz of course Asus GUI > TM Unifi stock router (the first batch router white orange) GUI. Asus GUI is nicer with blue and grey theme and easy to navigate through settings. Unlike TM Unifi stock router, every settings has a complete description on whats and hows or in other words, user friendly. You really don't need a network engineering degree to play around with the settings if you know what you're doing (No, seriously).

Example

Conclusion

Pros
• Wide range of coverage
• Hassle free settings with Asus GUI
• More secure than TM Unifi Stock Router

Cons
• Hypp TV not supported
• The antennas are too big and tall
• The router consumes quite big of space

Final Words

How would I say this. The router is just marvelous and performs a lot better than the stock router plus with extra security to keep those pesky hackers away. The only problem is the router doesn't support Hypp TV that comes with Unifi package and that's kinda sad because I myself use Hypp TV quite a lot especially when Astro being a scumbag due to rain. Another problem is the router needs a bigger space and all thanks to those 3 tall antenna. Everything else is just fine and I've been informed that this router will support Hypp TV soon so I really look forward into it.

Depends on the user. As for me, I let all the settings to default except for DNS, IP when necessary smile.gif

i change my stock unifi to this. Currently connecting with 10 pc/laptop and 10 mobile phone , it seems like no problem at all. Running at 10mb home unifi setup , torrenting is not a problem as well as online gaming was quite acceptable since it shares by over 20 platform.

at first i was quite reluctant to buy this almost RM300 product(small and seems unreliable), but now im a happy landlord now with no more complains from all my tenants.

The range itself can cover my whole house, add around 20 - 30%(compare to stock unifi router/modem) coverage to the whole entire house with a lot partition.

2 months usage now and have not encounter any problem with it.

Should buy from Lazada. Much cheaper.

Bought two for my parents house... RM465 for two. I bought one way earlier for only RM219.

i saw lazada also , but for the long run benefit, i choose to give my IT guy the business. Installing cost me rm400 with the router. Since im not always in the country, the amount i paid is better because my IT guy will come fix any problem in future without extra charge. In another way i paid RM100 ++ for personal after sales service.

Anyway , recommended this product for all.

It was cheaper earlier. Now it has become slightly expensive. I dont know if our currency drop has anything to do with this or just Asus being greedy. It was RRP RM249 minus RM30 voucher from Lazada in January. Now it has become RM279 minus 10% discount.

their usage in torrenting is not that heavy yet. so even when they torrenting, the lag time for gaming maybe for few minutes only.

It depends actually. You have to be more specific for the multiple user. Are they all going for torrent and heavy direct download or just watching YouTube videos and normal web surfing. The most important is your internet package that you are currently subscribe. Even if you buy a RM 1000+ router but only subscribe to Streamyx 1 Mbps, it won't make any difference and the network performance will be still decrease due to the bandwidth usage.

My answer to your question is as long as it's not ISP stock router (TM for example), it should be fine. I assume if other users just using the net for normal web surfing it won't affect your ping as long as you have sufficient bandwidth. Heavy downloads and torrents, no. Asus N12HP is good and affordable. Can be use for long term. Hope I answer your question smile.gif

I really do hope my ex-tenants are free enough to surf all these. It was a 10mbps unifi but somehow worse than my umobile phone internet. Can you imagine that sad.gif

Planning to get one because of the vpn feature and price. Anyone tried the vpn feature? Does it work?

Disregard dynamic or fixed ip issue. It doesn't matter dynamic or fixed, in theory as long as we can get the ip it will work right? Just want to know whether it works using unifi. Heard unifi block vpn or something like that.

I'm a heavy gamer and my house there's up to 6 people using, means 6 laptops and 6 mobile devices.

did you turn ur router off occasionally? if not, isit stable while keeping it on for 24/7?

the TP Link modem , i've read alot positive reviews about it, but i've came across few reviews of it being unstable =(

I heard that getting a high gain router like this is not enough... because in networking, it always involves 2 parties (router and device).

So if the router have high signal strength to reach you, but your device is just normal wifi (without high gain signal), your issue is still not solve.

Can someone verify this please?

I'm using this router but I felt that the wireless coverage is poor. My room from the router is around 10 steps, but I only got 2 bar (-60 dBm). Is that normal?

Download a wifi analyzer on my phone, yeah there is some interruption from my neighbors.

Selected channel 1, it only goes up to -50 dBm. I thought the coverage of this router is better than the stock unifi with bigger antennas. sweat.gif

May I ask which one is better? The ASUS N14UHP or ASUS AC51U? They have almost the same price here in my location.

So dual bands have much more wider ranger than non dual band? Sorry I'm a newbie when it comes to this. Because the N14UHP does have 9dbi 3 antennas and the AC51U 5dbi 2 antennas correct? And also they have almost the same price I want to be sure whice one is worth the money to buy with my budget smile.gif My main purpose for buying the router is to have a good wireless connection that will give enough coverage anywhere in our home. We have a 2 floors and my current router is placed on the 2nd floor and when I'm on the 1st floor the router will be undetected due to poor signal I believe and maybe because of the walls blocking. Can you please help me decide? Thank you so much!

it will give quite stable speed, depends on ur ISP package..mine is 50mbps and using RT-N14UHP, DL speed is always 50-52mbps and UL 20-23mbps...my TM router fail at this coz sometimes drop to 30mbps for no reason..

Was recommended to get Asus rt-ac68u by my friend but the price is 900 plus which is quite a lot compared n14uhp.

Chanced upon this thread and was wondering if the N14uhp can solve my issues at home which is unstable speed (cant play dota 2) and bad coverage.

I think its mainly due to too many deviced (ard 10) going at once. Mostly using youtube.

Im on Unifi 5mbps package and house is 2 storey.

Q is this N14uhp can solve my issues or I should look for better model? Just want stable speed and good coverage. Any model welcomed thanks!

Introduction

I just purchased Asus RT-N14UHP to replace the stock Unifi router.
Followed the instructions.
Internet status: Connected
But, can't access anything from web browsers on my Mac.
Updated firmware to: 3.0.0.4.376_3754

Any suggestion?

You might need to change to another channel. Sometimes there are some disturbance if nearby router using the same channel.
