“On 16th April 1996, I was on a routine rocket firing training flight with a squadron mate on an Aermacchi MB339A jet trainer. Our target was a rocky outcrop Island in the South China Sea. During one of the firing passes, the aircraft suffered serious flight control surface failure resulting in a spiral dive at 2000 feet AMSL. Split second decision to eject was made and both of us were saved by our Mk-IT-10F seats. Thanks to Martin-Baker's seat, we lived to tell our story. I was registered as the 4915th member of the Tie Club and my friend became the 4916th. We are proud (not by choice) to be part of an exclusive band of brothers whose lives were spared by seats with rocket packs."

soon MiG will be retired. Wonder if she will move on to commercial aviation or fly the next batch of new jets

During Subang International Air Carnival 2014, I asked one of the dudes at MiG simulator booth, and they said that she has already been transfered to C-130 since she got married. Expectant mothers shouldn't be flying fighter jets I guess.

Does Malaysia have a FLIR-equipped light aircraft? Should be useful at night, when the sea temperature goes down
*

Of course la not for guarding bank. laugh.gif

More like special 'elite' guards for ministry buildings/national assets, military bases & VIP government officials.

We have that one, auxiliary police units. If we follow your concepts, arm specific aux polices unit with special equipment, that would be perfect.

U.S. accidentally delivered weapons to the Islamic State by airdrop, militants say

like this also happend biggrin.gif

That's a PADS, a 40k USD parachute, that's gone straight to the ISIS. A specialized parachute, it can steer itself, got GPS built-in, and substantially much expensive drop system.

M28 Parachute Cargo Bag Webbing - 400 USD
PADS Extraction System - 28k USD
GPS Heavy Duty - 3k USD
Parachute - 40k USD
Honeycomb impact absorbing materials - some few dollars, 4 probably.
Dropping air supplies into the enemy - priceless

There are some things ISIS can't buy, but for everything else, there's US Air Force

So yeah, that's some good airdrop going on there

On the more lighter side of news...

82 soldiers get to sit SPM

KOTA BARU: Army private Mohd Ropi Isa still has a pang of regret for leaving school after completing only his Form Three years ago.

Now at 24 years old, he is taking his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations for the first time to raise his educational qualification.

Serving in the 18th Batallion of the Royal Malay Regiment in Pengkalan Chepa here, Ropi said as he did not do well in his studies then, he chose to quit school when friends coaxed him to do so after his Penilaian Menengah Rendah examination (PMR).

“That was the worst decision that I have ever made and I have regretted it ever since. Luckily, I managed to join the army with my PMR qualification several years ago.

“I realise now that I have to at least pass the SPM (examinations) to advance in my career and find a better job after completing military service,” he said when met before sitting for his first paper, Bahasa Melayu 1 paper, yesterday.

Ropi, from Batu Gajah in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, is one of 82 soldiers from the 8th Infantry Brigade sitting for SPM at the Armed Forces’ community transformation centre in Desa Pahlawan camp here.

Of the candidates, 20 were taking the examinations for the first time.

Corporal Amirsah Jauharan, 31, from the 8th Battalion of the Royal Signals Regiment, also based here, is re-sitting SPM, which he first took 14 years ago.

Amirsah, who is the oldest soldier among the candidates sitting for the exam, said he had worked hard to better the results he obtained from his first sitting.

“I have been attending classes organised by the Education Corps here regularly since February. We also had tuition classes besides study groups,” said Amirsah, who is from Kudat, Sabah.

8th Brigade’s education officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid, said this was the first time that the Malaysian Examination Syndicate had allowed an army camp to be converted into an examination centre.

“A centre can be opened with a minimum 70 candidates and we have 82 students. Previously, soldiers had to sit for the examination at schools like other students.”
