Defence Ministry hopes for greater Budget allocation to combat terror threats in East Malaysia
QUOTE KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry hopes to be allocated more funds under Budget 2015 to strengthen security in the country and combat growing terror threats in the waters off Sabah and Sarawak, said Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri. “Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has identified several key areas that he will be looking at. We want to help the people in Sabah and Sarawak feel more secure,” he said, adding that more assets needed to be purchased and relocated to East Malaysia. Abdul Rahim said the Ministry was also exploring the possibility of “sea-basing” which would provide commanders the ability to conduct selected functions and tasks at sea without relying on infrastructure ashore. “We welcome the participation of Petronas in this initiative by giving us decommissioned platforms, where we will be stationing our troops and assets. “We hope to equip the platforms with all the necessary assets to prevent intrusions,” he said at Wardieburn Camp in Setapak on Wednesday after presenting medals to eight soldiers from the Territorial Army Regiment. QUOTE(wanvadder @ Oct 10 2014, 06:27 PM) Bajet 2015 This statement if it's true, rm7bil for development expenditure (DE)?? That's a whopping leap from measly rm2.7bil last year and rm3.3bil from 2013!!161. To increase the readiness of ATM's personnel and assets, RM7 billion will be allocated to purchase and maintain the defence assets. Apart from this, the welfare of armed forces personnel will also be improved, including health services and housing. But I stay cautious still.. bijan never did say it's specially only for DE.. |
