I'm having the same problem. I alrd choose "File" in connection mode
I can't seem to tranfer files by using direct cable from phone to my laptop (Asus X45U)

I had to take out the memory card and put in tue memory card reader.

It seems to be optimisation issue with the new Cortex-A53 used in newer Snapdragon SoC line ups.

But I tried Redmi 2 before, it seems fine to me.
MIUI 6 is really heavy and its RAM management is one of the worst. Even my Mi3 (with such power-packed krait 400 cpus) couldn't fly through the UI at times.

Redmi 2 enhanced version is coming to Malaysia with 16GB internal and 2GB of RAM. You might wanna buy this to improved fluidity.
