QUOTE(johnngiew @ May 6 2015, 10:34 AM) Hi guys, MIUI built in apps are pretty crappy TBHmy os version is OFficial miui 5 v45.. didn't dare to upgrade it to v50. do you guys ever face any issue with the stock file explorer? there are 2 problems i faced: 1. send function not working. when i want to send certain files like txt document or excel document to my hotmail as attachment. i go to file explorer, tap on the file, click the 'more' option, and click 'send' button. before i could select my apps. it closes itself to the SD card path again. 2. jump between SD and internal storage. i tried to find something in my internal storage, and most time it will jump back to my sd card storage when i tap back. its like i'm browsing for things to be deleted in my internal memory, but each time when i tap back, it will go to SD card, and i have to tap the top left corner to select the internal memory again. this happened all the time that it is so troublesome to browse all the folders in internal storage. i dont wish to install any other apps in my phone because the 8gb memory is not enough for me to use. do you guys face this problem? I recommend you to root your phone and use Link2SD to transfer file to your micro sd card. Better yet, install ported MIUI v6, rock solid for daily usage. |

This is the last 10 post in the thread. Upon reaching post 2200 I will close the thread and make a new one with new content and ROMs in it.
Meanwhile, let me give you my view after using Redmi 1S for 1 year and three months. This is solidly builts, up till today, the phone is still working fine despite all the abuse I have done to it. You wont even believe how many times I have dropped this face down, corners, tarmac road or tiled floors. It didnt break. It still works fine. Software wise, the MIUI support is not that great from Xiaomi as they're still on 4.4 but with the help of 3rd Party developers I have Resurrection Remix 5.5.7 based on Android 5.1.1 with The Beast kernel. When I have 50 or 60 apps installed, the phone obviously did not run well. Heck it'd freeze 80% of the time. I did a clean wipe and now I only install social media apps such as Instagram, Whatsapp and Snapchat for them to be fully functional. Otherwise, social media like Facebook and Twitter, I am using web apps for them. That reduced my RAM consumption a lot. I also disabled Chrome which is a RAM hogger and replaced it with Dolphin Browser with the custom HTML5 Engine. Very usable I would say. I can listen to Spotify with Viper4Android On, surfing lowyat forum and still have 250MB of RAM left. Battery Battery life is simply amazing with this little apps. I can get easily get almost an entire day of usage on a single charge. I'm not going go into it much, but I'm leaving the screenshots below. Final verdicts The Redmi 1S is still a powerful phone for daily usage apart from the 1GB RAM. It may not be capable for heavy social media apps but what do you expect for a 1GB RAM Android phone. Watching Youtube on this is still very enjoyable without any stutter at 720P which is great. Can you use it as your daily driver still? It depends on how you use your phone. Like me, I dont feel like throwing this away yet as it still works fine. Thus I started using web apps which is perfectly fine. If you want to use social media apps, I suggest you to upgrade from the Redmi 1S as its not capable to do so. But if you're doing it like me, I dont see why its impossible. Its a great robust device and you lower the risk of being robbed since its almost worthless now. Thats all for now. Thank you if you did read it up to this point. |

QUOTE(NightFelix @ Oct 27 2015, 10:59 AM) Get Mi3 for the same price la. SianzQUOTE(netmatrix @ Oct 28 2015, 07:38 PM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « My report same as yours. The phone is Nokia tough. Except i'm running all stock Rom. And last month changed to MIUI6. Just today found out got MIUI V7. But not going to upgrade it at the moment. Wanted to change to Redmi2 but the price went up and not worth that much IMHO. |

This phone has a hidden feature, water resistant Went for a camp at Cameron H. last two weeks I had lots of outdoors activities and it was raining heavily most of the time I was there. That did not stop me from bringing this phone outdoors. However, the unexpected happened, it rained HEAVILY when I was playing football. Heck did I care about the rain. Continue playing with it in my pocket. When I returned to the Hostel, checked it. It was still working with lots of mud. Brought it out the second day with rain and it cleaned it good! Water sensors not triggered. Simply amazing. Sent from my Redmi 1S |

QUOTE(netmatrix @ Nov 9 2015, 05:41 PM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I also suspect this unit is quite resistant to water. I put it in my pocket all the time. And because fate ppl usually sweat heavily, the unit is sometimes damp. But still working. This condition was subjected to my phone since i bought it last year August. The original silicone cover has since been replaced by a second one already because its not grippy anymore. (RM1 only baby!!) Did you use the original silicone cover? The phone also fall a lot of times and still ok. Really a solid thing this is. Dropped it for many times. Still works fine since last year July |
