QUOTE(TakoC @ Oct 31 2014, 09:57 AM)
Sometimes I wonder why I invest in Emerging Market, which currently holds about 10% in my portfolio.

Managed it to fully dispose it at a very small profit back then, but buy back and just leave it ever since. Currently at a 6% loss.
*
EM to me, is for long term capital gains - may be volatile like hell and it is this volatility which i want to buy into tongue.gif
Thus in the long term, the returns statistically should be higher than low-volatile markets.

Just a thought notworthy.gif

QUOTE(woonsc @ Nov 4 2014, 06:57 PM)
why PRS ? it's quite risky if u are young.. No volatility.. withdrawal before retirement tax 15%
*
8% tax for withdrawal like David shared
+ U can only withdraw from Account B only, which holds 30% of your PRS

However, is this risky?
U sure no volatility? Crystal ball gazing?
U do know there are 3 "core types" of PRS per se right?
Growth or Aggressive PRS types not volatile? What are the underlying assets held by the PRS fund of Growth or Aggressive types? brows.gif

QUOTE(woonsc @ Nov 4 2014, 07:22 PM)
i mean it's like a fixed saving.. you wont be able to use it in times of emergency..
That's what my friends told me.. if u are still young..
*
if he's looking at it as an investment, with ups & downs + holding for >=10-30 years+,
AND he has emergency funds built,
why would he worry about it "untouchable"?

heck, if his tax rate is 26%
AND he puts into PRS
THEN takes out from a/c B, he still makes 26%-8% = 18%

right or right?
It all DEPENDS.
There's no fixed answer AND are your friends millionaire(s) via saving & investing?
If not, might as well ask a sales consultant to analyze, design & develop a system
OR ask an IT analyst to sell fridges to Eskimos laugh.gif

QUOTE(yklooi @ Nov 27 2014, 06:30 AM)
hmm.gif for me...it is the
1) ease of moving monies to investment assets in FSM and out (temporarily)
no need to goto banks to transfer monies (if more than allowed by online transact limits)
2) no lock in period where else FD has minimum (1 month?)
3) FD has higher minimum amount for initial investment...CMF RM 500
4) FD has higher subsequent reinvestment amount...CMF RM 100
5) FD has higher withdrawal redemption amount...CMF is RM 100
6) can view my non investment monies (CMF) and investment monies (FI/EQ) at a same page in FSM

for more info.....

http://www.fundsupermart.com.my/main/faq/faq.svdo?id=9718#1

hmm.gif  some drawbacks I can think of...
1) FD can get monies FAST (if on working hours)....CMF have to wait a few days.
therefore one is recommended to get Saving & FD a/c too...just incase one needed to get faster.
2) .....
*
additional drawbacks
3) Technical drawback: Not PIDM insured. Pls read-up on PIDM and max insured ya - may not be a big factor to consider for some
