Guys, I am new to car detailing. After reading all the posts here, still a bit blur on the overall car detailing process. I have just collected my new car and going to do some maintenance on it from now on. I am planning to do it in the following steps, please do correct me if anything wrong. smile.gif

1, Washing: 2 bucket method with car shampoo. (Any brand will do)
2, Claying: PG Clay bar with PG quick detailer which come in package
3, Sealing: PG Polymer Sealant
4, Waxing: Turtle Super Hard Shell Liquid Wax
5, Maintenance: Sonax/PG Quick Detailer

By the way, for new car, can i skip the claying step?

Thanks.

You can save the money on step 3, 4 and 5 for just one premium quality paint protection such as Turtle wax ice premium paste wax or Sonax brilliant shine or Sonax polymer netshield. All these three options offers long lasting paint protection and excellent water repellency. The polymer netshield is said to be very durable and can last many washes.

Thanks for the suggestion. But is there any other OTC product other than sonax? I prefer to start with easy to get product first. biggrin.gif

Sifu, where to get grit guard other than from Osren? And what should be the reasonable price for this item?

what is reasonable price for you and where is your location ?

My area is around kepong. Osren quoted me at RM60++ for only the grit guard. I feel it is a bit expensive, so looking for alternative option.

got mine from autogeek.com.my for less than Rm 50. That was the pricing back then. I often check autogeek and motormadmalaysia for discounts and promotions.

Taobao only! Way cheaper. It shouldn't make too much of a difference as imho, grit guard is good for grainy particles that would sink below bucket only. Those that floats....hmmm..careful la

Yup TaoBao!! How could I forget about this worldwide supermarket. doh.gif
By the way, what's makes grit guard so expensive actually? I thought it is just a plain plastic? Correct me if I am wrong. smile.gif

Hello sifus,

I am looking to buy the Bosch GEX125AE to do some polishing/waxing on my 1 year old red car. I live in Subang Jaya and I wonder where can I buy pads for the Bosch GEX125AE? Lake Country pads? Rupes? How much are they?

Hopefully you guys can help point me in the right direction.

I am planning to get an entry level machine like Bosch GEX125AE for some light / minor polishing and mostly on maintenance (waxing purpose). Is this machine suitable for beginner? Any other options?

IIRC its originally meant for sanding. but its random orbital motion makes it OK for polishing/waxing but the grip might not be optimum. Best if you can get your hands on one and try before buying
*
The grip between the machine and pad you mean?
Or do you have any suggestion of machine for entry level?
Waxing by hand is tiring and also not really even.

Depending on what you intend to use the machine for. The Bosch would be good enough for *light* polishing, paint cleaning and waxing. For heavier corrections like removing swirls, light scratches and the like, a DA would be more suitable. And by suitable, I meant it would save you the effort and time required. The Bosch could still be able to do it albeit in longer time and would require more efforts.

Krismas, if i were to get GEX125-1 AE, what pad should i be getting for waxing purpose and light waxing purpose? smile.gif

The following or something equivalent to the following:
1. Polishing - Sonax White Polishing pad (160mm) or Lake Country White pad (5.5").
2. Waxing - Sonax Black/Grey Finishing pad (160mm) or Lake Country Black Finishing pad (5.5")

I'd also suggest, if possible, you get at least one of the harder and more aggressive heavy polishing pad just in case you'd need to do some heavier corrections. Sonax Yellow, Lake Country Orange or 3M Green.
I'd say, if you can afford, the Meguiars twin - Megs Ultimate Compound and Megs Ultimate Polish. Both are decent enough compound and polish for beginner and intermediate enthusiasts.

Thanks bro. smile.gif
By the way, since you are using Osren drying cloth, may I know which one would be the better choice between their chamois and weaver cloth? I am using their chamois but feel that it is a bit fragile, it gets stretched to some irregular shape after I squeeze the water out, so I wonder how long this chamois can last.

Just a question, if waxing by hand, does circular motion or straight line motion matter? Which gives better result? Viewing guide from auto geek and what they do is in straight line motion.

I think in mike philips ( autogeek) video he said that he did in straight line is following the direction of the wind hitting the panel. but i think either way will do  laugh.gif

Haha.. if either way will do.. I rather to do it in straight line motion, i found it easier.. biggrin.gif

Using Osren' Tar Remover recently on two cars, the first car is only one year old and the tar can easily dissolved with one application.
For the second car, it is around 2 and half years old, some of the tar seems can't dissolve at all even I apply tar remover for second time and rewipe again.
So, does tar gets hardened over time? And how frequent can we use tar remover on car? My daily car always travel in dusty areas, I am afraid frequent use of tar remover can spoil the paint quality?
Thanks.

Go around the premises. But both grill shut. But the light inside got on. Or is it we need to call their worker to open?

I usually went on saturday. The front gate is closed during my first two visits.
Perhaps as per what you said, try calling them instead since the light still on. smile.gif

Could be over pressure applied OR

2nd could be your ROB's stator dying...i got mine replaced recently...cost me around Rm90 i think...it was fully functioning,, found out when i buying the housing o-ring replacement...the technician told/show me the plastic holding the cooper wire is broken...(wear and tear from heat) so sooner or later the wire touche the magnet the unit will jam.

I think it wouldn't be over pressure. I was using black finishing pad, if over pressure, the machine stop rotating.
My unit is only one month old, possible to get the stator KO so fast?
