thanks sifu Krismas!

as promised: https://plus.google.com/+JasonLimQuazacolt/posts/LzcXTB9DpNg My heart sank when i got back to my car just to discover it being scratched after a meet up session with the folks from Uber at Bangsar.

Disclaimer: "kids do not try this at home"
ideally you'd want to wash the whole car first prior to doing any correction as you risk contaminating the unaffected areas and having a half assed correction as dirt etc contaminates the area you're working on.

i personally am a bit ocd and i couldn't bear to see my beloved car in such state hence i took action immediately even if it's 2am in the morning on a Friday(few hours earlier).

sifu, how frequent did you wash your car ?
*
not sifu la and the last time i wash was that youtube video i posted to demo sonax bsd

that was... 3-5 months ago?

WOW....looks like multiple attacks by multiple creatures there!!! Nice save. Ultimate Compound?
*
ikr? the scratch on TOP of the door handle was just mind boggling. it doesn't matches the "pattern".
my only conclusion is my car being unfortunate meeting REALLY drunk assholes.

Anyways i used ultimate polish, with few more passes since i don't want to risk marring on the unaffected area (again, as i didn't wash down the car/have clean surface to work with)

i used tissue paper mainly for cleaning the affected area with megs final inspection then after polishing also IPA'd it so needed tissue to dry it as the borders of the affected area were beading up (as the protection is still there) and the IPA will leave residue if it happens to flash in a bead lol

and sonax disposable polishing cloth ( still on my 2nd piece after bought so long as i cut it into really small pieces tongue.gif) as well since i don't feel like washing 3-4 cloths (UP/PB BH/ULW/BSD) just for OCD'd spot corrections.

i noticed that the polishing cloth are more abrasive (or they carry/hold the product better?) than regular MF cloths which reflected when i applied BSD, had to use a tissue paper to buff off BSD which i usually didn't need to for MF cloths.

QUOTE(efaceninja @ Aug 29 2014, 10:12 AM)
Wow those are terrible! My heart would sank too. But then, took action at 2am.. you're really ocd haha. But i see that most scratchs are gone in the end. So what did you do? Compound with hand? Or machine?

Btw, your car looks somewhat... dirty in the picture, for a guy like you haha! You need to finish your stockpiled products yo! Last time i saw your just waxed and BSDed picture, super shine and clean!
*
purely by hand laugh.gif

and yes it's been many months since i've washed my car. i'm "OK" with it since the car beads/sheets water so aggressively every rain (and it washes away the previous dirt automatically every time LOL!) so it's a decent indication that the protection is still there.

heck, when i was ipa'ing the area, megs ULW was still protecting the underneath strongly and all my IPA did initially was "blurring"/"hazing" the wax up. and having beading IPA wasn't a pleasant experience to deal with as:
1) i cannot clean at all
2) i actually have to clean more to get rid of the compromised wax

but yea, after a rain, the shine/cleanliness automatically returns until the left over beads (that couldn't sheet off) will dry and flash into a mild watermark laugh.gif

Can this be considered as a compliment for its durability?
*
either the bsd or ulw, or how the glaze is sticking the wax on it... i don't know.

i know they work really well together lol

as for soft99, my problem with soft99 is it just got wayyyyyyyy too much similar product choices there, and their product naming is super confusing, plus their product instruction/function explanation is mostly too generic or just plain Japanese words..

*
soft99 offers pretty decent budget clays.

and i happen to be able to read some japanese tongue.gif

for polishes and compounds normal dishwashing detergent more than good enough already. And nowadays, more and more 'water-based' compounds/polishes are around and plain water can clean them already....
*
i actually only used water for my pads... i don't reckon M101/UP being water based? maybe i tend to clean them early before they cake up too bad... or i work on the panels a lot more hence the products aren't leftover too much on the pads XD

Yes, they are. Try using Menz (85rd) or Optimum (FP) or Megs (older M80/M82) finishing polishes then you'd see the differences. The 'oil based' polishes are generally grey-ish in colour....
*
oooo awesome then! water enough hehe

what about sonax perfect finish that i've been wanting to get forever?

Not trying to undermine or overhype any products here, but if you want to effectively compare the costs, you should consider the cost of product used PER SESSION/application.

For example, lets jut take the two products that you mentioned above,
Osren Multi Clean is RM40 for 4L = RM10/L
megs APC is RM140 for 1gal
OMC strongest recommended dilution is neat/straight up (pls correct me if i'm wrong)
APC max reco dilution is 1:4 so for RM140 you'd get 5 gals = RM7.40/L

See...the above is just an example. If my assumptions are correct and also assuming the two products performance is the same at strongest dilution, then APC looks to be cheaper.

Just an example ya...
*
highly agree on this thumbup.gif

i think i run my APC on 1:10 and it's strong enough for me.
anything stronger i got my IPA/degreaser/wheel cleaners/actual solvents tongue.gif

Just use common sense. For a start, just cover those parts/areas that you think don't like water, eg. exposed wire connectors/junctions, any 'boxes' that you think water can seep in and contain electronics/electrical stuffs, etc. (oh...and if water can go inside the air intake then you have a much bigger things to worry about mate tongue.gif ). And if you're using a degreaser, you'd also need to cover those moving parts that require grease to work properly.

Time to learn about your engine assembly and whats inside the engine compartment and also how they work.... rolleyes.gif

this.

being interested in cars/car enthusiast definitely help a TON in this nod.gif

dressing = attract dust

What should we use (as alternative to dressing product) for keeping our engine look at it's best? Need recommendation please. Thanks  notworthy.gif
*
nothing.

because regular detailing stuff wouldn't stand the heat, and those that would will have an oil film and that's what attract more dust/dirt.

hmm.gif should wash your exterior first?? haha.

i see.. well last time i did spray some PG tyre shine on the engine's hard plastic parts (air box, other boxes).  looks shine and nice and happy.  1-2 weeks later, all dust on top.

so.. normally you guys (your preference) is not put on dressing on engine bay?
*
i will wash it as well, maybe separate session, see how my schedule goes.

i did put dressing, so it looked damn bling during the first month LOL
now it looks like as if my car goes to rally on a daily basis sweat.gif
