just face it... Van Gaal came way too late to be able to create a significant impact this transfer period. U can be glad to be able to sign di maria even though the price tag was high. Anything u sign now will just be a desperate purchase which you should be familiar with after last season. On top of that w.o. cl top players won't be desperate to join u.

Yup I'm absolutely with you there. I just try to point out that many here expect absolute top singnings. But such signings take few things. Preparation which was shortened due to lvg's world cup appearance, the other team willing to let go (just like real kinda forced di maria to leave), the money which you surely have and the success n perspective which you sort of lack of, at least for the moment. You signed lvg for a reason which is to turn the team around and that can't be made in a single transfer season.
I know lvg well enough to know how meticulous he is working. But he is very narrow minded and undiscerning too which made him lose his job at Bayern münchen few years back.
You should be happy if you make it into the cl next year so the "big names" most of you request now could really come.
