HOST file is what I will reccommend. Edit it accordingly. This topic has been discussed before...

Because it requires PC to be restarted after you set the host file to take effect.
Do you have any other ways like software?
thanks.

Sad ler... But this is the case, all the time... If at least mention googled what term or keyword or so, at least can help. Expect us to throw out every answer available... Can never learn at all if like that...

Isn't that we can do the restriction in IE-->Tools-->Security-->Internet by adding the sites over there?

Oh,ok. Well, I rarely do restrictions, but I always resort to the HOST file. It works all the time. Maybe you can program a simple program that adds entried into the HOST file and auto restart? Might save you all the hassle of searching for software...

No...it doesn't really require you to restart PC. But in order to take effect you need to restart your browser though.

Why it doesn't help? You just need to add one entry like this
127.0.0.1 forum.lowyat.net

then restart your browser
and walla, it is blocked! It does exactly what you want (according to the description)

If you're using router, you can make use of the powerful URL filtering feature (maybe some of the router use different names, but I assume the functionalities are more or less the same) to block some restricted websites.

Insist on third party software? Yes, firewall like ZoneAlarm can also help you to block websites. For anything else, just google for "website blocker" and there will be plenty of software for you to download (just to be careful that it doesn't contain spyware)

If you wanna do it in browser level, you can do what bobtiang suggested for IE, if you're using Firefox you can use adblock extension.

See? You're spoiled of choices, and I don't see why you can't achieve websites restriction flex.gif

Play around with user accounts and access control. I'm sure you can do that.

Yes some software do this function: McAfee Privacy Service which is a parental control program, to let you restrict some website to be browse for all other user in computer. But beware, this software might cause lots of problem to you internet browsing and sometimes block out some important website, like banking websites.

Also, by install McAfee Privacy Service, it will require you to type in your password everytime you start your computer, beside your usual windows log in.
