1. Brand: Anything goes. Preferably a non-China brand. (Worried about language barriers when it comes to support)

2. Budget: About RM 800

3. Specs: Best bang for my buck. Though I want it small. (Mobile phones gotta be mobile and fit in my pocket cough cough)

4. What I need in the phone:
Good battery life. (Hoping for it to last me several days at least)
Sturdy and reliable. (Expecting to have it last me many years)
Fast and powerful / decent performance.
Camera isn't important, but a good one would be preferred.

I'm planning to use it mainly for web-browsing and chatting when I'm away from my computer. Perhaps I'll get some casual games too, but nothing too heavy, since I already have consoles for that.

I was thinking of getting either an Asus Zenfone 5 or a Motorola Moto G, but I'm worried about the Zenfone's battery life, for one, and I can't seem to find any vendors selling Moto Gs here. Still, some recommendations would be nice.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you all for the replies. After some careful consideration (and lots of research), I've come to a choice between the Xiaomi Mi3 and the Moto G 4G LTE. Not really going for the Asus Zenfone 5 anymore, mainly because of the battery life.

While the power of the Mi3 is awfully tempting, I'm not really a fan of the phone's design. I'd prefer a rounded look rather than sharp edges on the phone. It's also larger than the Moto G, which is a little bit of a turn-off to me. That, and it doesn't have 4G, or a micro SD slot, from what I've read. I'm a little worried that I'd end up regretting not getting a 4G model in the future, or that I'd need more space on the phone. The Mi3 does seem to have a much stronger battery than the Moto G, however.

That said, the Moto G isn't quite as powerful as the Mi3, and the camera just isn't as good, but I'm wondering if it can still stand on its own despite that. A great thing about the Moto G is the quick updates to the Android OS. Though with the Moto G2 getting the new Android L, and with the fate of the original models unknown, I'm wondering if I should wait to see if Motorola announces a Moto G2 model with 4G.

I have a feeling I'm just making things difficult for myself, haha. Can anyone help me out with this dilemma of mine? I'd greatly appreciate it.

In terms of hardware, Mi3 is better imo, can handle higher end games with it's processor and ram. While in terms of LTE and microsd card slot, Moto G wins.

So it depends on u, if u really nid LTE and microsd card slot, then Moto G is for u. nod.gif

LTE isn't really a necessity for me, but I want to future-proof the phone, so I'm worried that eventually, 3G would be phased out and replaced with 4G. That's mainly the reason of getting a 4G phone over a 3G one. Is 4G really as important as some people make it seem? I'm aware that its speeds are quicker than that of 3G, but has it become a mainstream thing?

As for the micro SD slot, it's also just a precaution. I haven't had a smartphone before, (I've been using an old one for more than half a decade now) so I'm not really familiar with how big the apps usually are on the market, and whether 16 GB is enough for me. I've already used up all of the 32 GB space on my iPod Touch, but then again, that's mostly music. Is 16 GB enough for a smartphone in this time and age?

Also, to those with a Mi3, does the phone feel comfortable to use with just one hand, or do you find yourself stretching a little to reach the farther parts of the screen? Are the edges pointy, or does it only look that way?

I apologize in advance for the long posts. Lots of concerns to be cleared up, but thank you for your time, and your answers. smile.gif

Thank you for the detailed reply. I'm glad to hear that it's not too uncomfortable in your hand, and that the space isn't much of an issue. The USB storage is a really nice touch, too. I'll most likely try to look for a similarly-sized phone to see how it fits in mine. I can't exactly find a Mi3 here, or a Moto G, so I'll have to order it online when I do decide, haha.

Though, about the 4G-- I've only just learned that there are different frequency bands for 4G services, so some phones' 4G don't work in places where the frequency doesn't match. It makes me a little worried now to try and purchase the Moto G 4G LTE from a seller online. How do you know which frequency bands it works with? I visit Singapore often, so I hope to have a phone that works with the connection there. If I can't get the 4G to work, then I might as well go for the Mi3, I figured.

Forgive my lack of knowledge-- I haven't really been keeping up with the mobile world, haha.

I think Xiaomi Singapore also got flash sales like Msia right? If u really decided to go for Mi3, just purchase it online, the safest way to make sure that it is original set.  thumbup.gif

All right. I'll probably have a look around. I'll be heading to Singapore in a few weeks, so I'm sure I'll be able to find something, haha. Thanks again. Most of my doubts have been cleared, at least. c:

Is it really? That's a relief. That's good news for me, then. I haven't been able to find any info about it, and I've been looking for hours, haha. Thanks a lot. :>
