Hi all NDS n NDS lite fans, let's say i want to buy a NDS lite, when i buying a NDS lite, what things that i need to check out ?

I see some post here got tell about " Flashed " or " no Flash ", but i still blur for that ? some others like online funtions is it all nds lite can online?

Just need more infomation about NDS lite .

All versions of DS or DSL can go online. The thing you should check is for dead or stuck pixels. You could also check for physical defects such as dents and cracks.

Whether or not you want a flashed DS is totally up to you. For people in the US or Japan for example, a flashed DS voids warranty. However here in Malaysia since the warranty here isnt provided by Nintendo but instead the distributer or shop itself it doesnt really matter.

Well on the other hand, the advantages of having a flashed DS is that you could get yourself a Flash cart to run homebrew games and programs. Not to mention all the free games available on some torrent site. For me, one of the main reasons I got myself a flash cart is because of all the homebrew programs out there. Now i can basically use my ds to log onto msn, check the weather, run a VNC, play movies and music, use as gamepad, chat on IRC and etc.

Besides that there are a lot of other homebrew games and apps out there in the works like DSDoom, DSQuake, DSCNC(Command and Conquer), DSLinux, DSAIM (AIM messenger).

btw bidfordon, u dont need to BUY pirated game if u flash ur ds. i think it still support ori game after flash.

ha, that is not what i mean. i mean after flashing my nds lite, i will surely download the games instead of getting original copy one since it is so tempting. so, better dun flash it lo.

the software is called DSLiveWeather! tho still in beta.
for VNC, try googling DSVNC and ull see
NDSMail for the time being i tried i can get RSS Feeds but im having problems configuring my mail. Maybe later when im done ill let u noe. Its running for other ppl tho if im not mistaken

based on thaisxs article, we can flashed and De-flashed according to our likings. isn't it? and its better than using any pass-card or wat so ever card rite?

If you donwan to flash, you can use passcard3 or superkey to allow NDSL recognise other software source.

Another reason why you shouldn't flash is if nintendo do something on the server side, you may no able to play online using Flashed NDSL (at moment you still can, but we never know..).

I see, now i know what is that "Flashed" mean, so the original NDS lite is havn't flashed, but u guys use NDS lite online check mail or doing other things don't u scare will getting virus ?

2 styluses. one in the unit, one extra.

japanese unit includes a 110v power adapter(need a step down) and a wrist strap.

australian unit includes a 220b power adapter(no need for a step down), but no wrist strap. and a brain age demo cartridge.

that's about it.

i see, normally NDS lite selling in KL will be japanese unit or Australian unit?

Any different between these 2 unit ( the NDS Lite ) ?

if it's white, and it's cheap(<600), and it has a "brain training demo" written on the box, it's australian.

if it's not white(enamel navy or whatever), probably japanese.

Heheh. My gf was also skeptical in the beginning, but she couldn't resist the DS + Animal Crossing combo.

Needless to say, she has one of her own now, which makes for racing madness on Mario Kart. Next up is Mario Hoops - there'll be a lot of yelling on that one I tell ya.

I was lucky enough to have a friend sell me his old DS Phat with Animal Crossing for cheap, and then later another DS Phat for literally peanuts. Managed to sell one of them, upgrade to a DS Lite and now STILL looking for another used Phat DS cause my gf's sister and brother in law are addicted to Brain Training.

AFAIK there's no free packaged game (unlike the PSP). For games you MUST have check out online reviews and also find out what type of games you want.

i see, NDS lite around rm550, 1 game around rm100++

hmm need spend around rm 800 like that for 2 game XD

but unfortunately mario hoops 3 on 3 doesnt support wifi, i would just wait for the usd copy then.

Yeah I know but that's ok since local play is supported. We do most of our Mario Karting face to face anyway. 2 cartridges, 2 DS - and it's much better to see the look on your opponent's face as that sweet, sweet red shell finds its mark.

So now everyone knows I'll be buying 2 copies of Mario Hoops...

Hmm i buy NDS lite is because the interactive is so fun by touching the screen, i had see some intro about mario hoops, can using the pen n touch the screen and act like hit the basketball.

Else the Nintendog is because look like real & got sound detect to order the pet doing something ( don't know english can or not , i saw tv programe is using japanese XD )

Hmm. Okay here's my summary of NDS games to buy for your spanking new DSLite:

1) Mario Kart - it doesn't control with the touchscreen but it's one of the best racing games for a handheld. EVER.
2) Brain Training - Budget title, near unlimited fun, feel good about yourself in the end.
3) Metroid Prime Hunters - ONLY if you like FPS or don't mind being pwned by people. Excellent control, excellent graphics.
4) Meteos - puzzle action at its best.

As for Nintendogs, you can use any command/language you want. The game records your voice to be assosiated with the commands.

They need to be the host for the hack/cheat to work. But it's serious already. I VSed a hacker yesterday but managed to win by hunting down other hunters.

Hackers are not the least of your worries. Don't forget about glitches (go inside walls, become invisible, etc)

also, dont forget to get a pouch to protect ur nds lite when u r not playing it or to keep ur games. i got my pouch when i bought my ds from some one but this one is really amazing. it can keep 8 nds carts and it is also very sturdy. haha, luckily i got it when i bought the ds phat.

for me, i would recommend several games that i have it and reli like to play it.

firstly, if u like rpg, my first choice is mario and luigi partners in time. u will have a great time playing it without realizing that u have spent too much time on it since the battle system is so fun.

secondly, even if u dun enjoy playing rythmn games, i will suggest ouendan. this is an imported game but the language barrier doesnt stop it from being an addictive game. u will try ur best to get the rank S. i have been playing it and it doesnt get bored at all. if u are still afraid that u dun understand it, i will suggest u wait until the english version is released, elite beat agents.

thirdly, new super mario bros. if u like side scroller games and have played mario b4, this game is a must get game. the game is revamped in good way and there are plenty of minigames to keep u occupied even after u have completed the game.

actually, i dun think u shud get nintendogs since the game gets old very quickly. but since ur gf also wants to play nds lite, so i think this game may appeal to her for a while.

bidfordun may i ask, how long time that u play your nds lite per day? is it play too long time will broke the NDS lite or heat ?

Heat problem? nah.... you can play it 8 hours straight (i have) and still the dsl can handle it.

actually only once i play 8 hour straight - New Super Mario - after that i only play about 10minit to 1 hr only everyday. Heck my wife plays more than me. heh he.

Today i feel disapointed to ask a shop for nds lite price at Klang area ( cus walk by )

When i ask how much, he say rm 888 for flashed ( didn't say about origninal at all ) then sd card, rm200++, a small memory card rm 100+++ ( not really know how much cus no mood heard at all )

Total all need spend RM 1100+++ , it say help modified c movie n other staff. Is it need so expensive like that ?

What is the problem of Flased NDS lite ? i know some game can't play with online, but if i buy original game play with Flashed NDS lite is it still can online ?

1 more things is the port that slot sd card actually original NDS lite is for what on that port ?

btw.. how long does it takes for shop to flashed the NDS? I asking around Summit SJ all say 1 day or 2 days.. really that long?

what are you talking about? there're two slots on a ds unit, slot-1(DS) and slot-2(GBA). pirates who play roms load their sd/cf into their supercard which is a GBA cartridge, so that goes into slot-2, leaving the slot-1 unused.

its only take about 10-15 minute to flash. If take more than that it could be because the shop can't do it themselves, need to send to 'expert' elsewhere. Although i never heard this before, check back ur ds battery if it still the original or not.

Another reason they might take 1-2 days, is because they want to justify the price of flashing it. (Who want to pay RM70-100 for a 10 minute work?) heh he. So you won't grumble at the back.

I'm using a Crystal White Australian DSL. Dirt isn't really a problem as I always keep it in the airform case and (common sense) just keep my hands clean while playing it. I got it for about RM 580 (quite a while ago). Honestly colour is up to personal preference.

reli? even my friend is pampering his white nds lite like u do, i can c his nds lite turning brownish and yellowish liao. luckily i didnt get this color.

At the end of the day, as long as it's relatively clean, I don't really care all I want to do is play me some games. We'll leave the PSP fanbois to debate who has the shinier console.

haha, u r such a nice bf. japanese and australian one are identically the same but the price of australian one is cheaper. when u want to by ori games, tell ur gf that consider it as a long term investment bcos who knows that those games will be valuable one day, not to mention that it is our responsibility to support the game industry by purchasing ori games.

it doesnt need a stepdown but somehow i read this somewhere that mentioned its plug doesnt match the socket in malaysia.

yup. i can confirm this. i bough an australian ds (used) before for my friend. the voltage is same but u just need an adaptor to change the shape of the plug so it can fit into the wall. tho i cant really remember the shape

I see just the adaptor is different.

Em i don't know much in NDS lite console, NDS lite own got a battery inside the console, so when we play how we charge the battery and is it can use adaptor to play n without battery ?

we charge the battery usin' the charger/adaptor
and NO u canot play without the battery....
the adaptor is for the battery...

the battery unit stays on the ds. you charge it by connecting the power adapter to your ds, pretty much the same way you recharge your cellphones.

the power connector is the Type I / \ "flat, slanted pins" kind(like this), but without the ground(3rd) pin. adaptors for this is common enough to be found in convenience stores.

It means a "cracked hinge", a manufacturing defect on the hinge of ds lites. Due to time constraints, I can't supply a link to pictures. You can find pictures of those on the web.

You can play your DS while connected to the mains power supply, or even while charging it using a USB cable. The USB cable can also be used to charge your DS from your PS2. How's that for irony?

if i pluged the adapter cable on NDS n play like that is it will hurt that battery on NDS lite, some like other electronic things like digital camera or DV will hurt battery like that.

john1010_ma, about that crarked hinge, when i buy NDS lite i will check it, thank you for the info, if my NDS lite craked like that after i play long time, then what should i do? Add oil XD ( kidding )

does it really damage the nds if u play it while it is charging? can someone confirm this?

for ur question, if u have found a cracked hinge after playing it, unless u live in japan or usa which will provide a new one for the defected units, u have to live with it in malaysia. and according tho the owners who own those defected unit, they have taken good care of their ds and it happened too. so it it depends on ur luck too as it is reli unavoidable.

Hope so wont be so easy crarked and need to take care alot about the hinge area ....

i'm still a little confuse bout that. i'm afraid that i'm not able to play animal crossing, nintendogs or other games wifi without buying the original games.

hmm, vincent u like to drift in racing games? then u shud master the high level of drifting which is snaking in mario kart ds. for nintendogs, i dont reli want to recommend since this game gets old reli fast but it depends one every gamer taste la. for me, pet simulation is simply not my cup of tea.

db_88, u can played those games online even if u dun have ori copy of those games. awh played mario kart ds and metroid prime hunters online with me b4 but i was using ori games while he was using ahem one.

If u buy no flash u will can get cheap price n can play 1 game around rm 700~800.

For my situation ( gf XD ) most i will go to flashed, but u need spend around rm 800+ to buy nds lite n those staff.

If like that, then u can buy the original game play in flashed.

vincent, actually snaking is not a hacking skill, it is kinda like u just drift non stop to get permanent boost. u will understand if u lay ur hands on this game. also, the replayability of this game will be infinite if u can play it online.
