It's DC... it's hard to say. 'Suicide Squad' trailer looked good what with all the music and all, but turned out bad.

Here's hoping James Wan truly delivered another stunning DC spectacle. The other winning DC film would be 'Wonder Woman'.

Believe it or not, I have the most hope for 'Shazam' biggrin.gif

From the score, it won't be as bad as BvS or Suicide Squad... biggrin.gif

I was hoping it will be as good as "Wonder Woman" but oh well, it seem poised to be a good film.

If you're a DC fan or fan of superhero films in general, I think you will enjoy it.

Nowadays I don't really trust critic RT scores... especially for Aquaman, some of the critics sound extremely biased, often comparing it to <insert competitor comic book company>

Have watched 90% RT score films and thought they were overrrated or slept halfway through
Have watched sub 30% score films, ended up being a surprised and enjoyed them immensely

Still prefer RT audience rating or cinemascore

Anything 'fresh' thus far has not been a bad film for me. Good or great or exceptional that still depends on individual preference I guess. Always worked for me. I never trust IMDB / audience score.

Seen it last week at the press screening. It was the first DCEU film to receive applause from the media when the closing credit rolled.

To me it's the best DCEU instalment thus far. Extremely entertaining.

Best as in better than Wonder Woman? blink.gif

Then see the RT average rating, that's the actual rating critics gave to a film.
The percentage is just a "recommended" or "not recommended" --- which for Aquaman case, 75% critics recommend it.

Trusting audience rating and cinemascore is basically like trusting an election where anyone can vote.
*
True... must know how to read it... there's an "Average Rating: x/10" in small lettering. A film may get 90% RT score but average rating may be 7.5/10, an indication that while most reviews are fresh, the score mostly are 7.5/10.

Dunno how you guys can say its the best DC film / best action film of the year. I can't brain it... spoilers ahead. biggrin.gif

My gripes in short

- pacing issues
- cringey dialogues
- Aquaman and Mera got chemistry meh?? doh.gif they were easily the most awkward thing about the movie
- lengthy dialogue that can get boring no thanks to some cliche dialogues
- CGI shines in some areas while in others you can clearly tell it's green screen

Good stuff

- the action sequences especially the case sequence
- the 'spear' fighting was unique
- the underwater battle towards the end was epic
- Nicole Kidman & Jason Mamoa's acting performance

...but still not enough to warrant it as the best DC film / best action film of the year.

"Wonder Woman" takes that cake. In terms of emotional impact, Steve Trevor dying in that plane was MUCH BETTER than how Aquaman ended in a typical happy ending.

At best a 7/10.

Am i the only one that thought ww is overrated? It is still good film but the high rating is becoz of woman lead n feminisim lol...

I have read comments ranging from 'because Gal Gadot is hot' to 'someone paid the reviews' to what you just mentioned laugh.gif

Patty Jenkins' fine direction combined with a 'girl discovers modern age' story as well as some stellar acting performances was what made the film great.

WW is still the best DCEU film to date (for me).

A streak of badly received DC films and everyone loses their minds, and now an 'average' at best Aquaman is hailed as 'DC's return to form' tongue.gif

QUOTE(ray148 @ Dec 27 2018, 04:13 AM)
I thought WW is damn good until the 3rd act ruins it. They get characters right in WW and that's the most important part. I buy the romance between Steve and Diana.

In Aquaman though...lol there were zero chemistry between the two. Amber Heard is terrible. Momoa is tolerable at least thanks to his ridiculous bro-ish persona.
*
She can't act. The little 'side quest' they did in Italy was a cringe-fest... as said Jason Mamoa still had his persona to carry the film forward no matter how drab it got. There was absolutely no chemistry between the two, compared to Steve & Diana. WW's 3rd act jumped the shark a bit but I think the ending was satisfying and emotional enough. Really looking forward to 2020's WW84.

"Aquaman" and "Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom" are the two of my lowest rated films of the year... though both still managed to entertain me enough to not warrant them as absolute stinkers.
