EXCLUSIVE: TRADERS operating in Klang’s Little India have objected to the proposed alignment of the third Light Rail Transit line (LRT3).

They fear the 20.12m-wide elevated railway line was too close to two rows of pre-war shops in Jalan Tengku Kelana.

Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI) Klang Chapter and Klang District Business Development Committee have asked that the alignment be rerouted.

KLSICCI Klang Chapter chairman N. P. Raman said it would damage existing structures and affect the livelihood of business owners in the area.

The thing is Klang is densely populated. So realignment will satisfy no one...

True, Central Klang is too packed already.. a proper bus transport system would do better I think. Existing bus system in klang is kind of chaotic and lack of coverage to all areas.

For bus system, you need dedicated lane for it to operate more reliably. Otherwise, bus will stuck in mixed traffic, making it slow. Slow meaning you won't attract more people to use public transport.

So a bus lane vs LRT, if they can do LRT...that will be better for abovementioned reasons.

Otherwise, as the news is about effect on shophouses, need to hire consultant to assess the impact.

If LRT is confirmed, better prepare for massive traffic jams..  sweat.gif

Klang already congested even now and its a large city (same population as JB itself).....without alternative transport, perpetual traffic gridlock ala Jakarta will occur if nothing is done.

At least LRT is alternative smile.gif

Looks like its going to Bdr Utama...

those pre war shop's customer always park on side of the road. Actually the road is 2 lane each way. When comes to peak hour, the traffic getting worst.

I always  use that road to go to bukit tinggi or pandamaran as second bridge(MPK) quite heavy with traffic.

building a LRT on that area is bad idea, as ktm are nearby that area within 500 meters away.

Maybe building another bridge or tunnel to bypadd little india is good.

KTM serving different corridor.

The LRT3 will serve Klang city + Klang south + i-City + Glenmarie + PJ north. Thus it offers new route.

The alignment must pass KTM so that passengers can transfer between LRT and KTM.

little india in klang is a shithole anyway, so demolish away

One has to recognise that part is pretty much the heart of Klang and much of Klang history stemming from that area.

But then, not much of the alignment exact of LRT 3 had been known.
