Hamilton: `I tricked Massa into spin`

Lewis Hamilton has claimed he "tricked" Felipe Massa into spinning off during the Malaysian GP.

Hamilton overtook Massa at the start of the race but appeared set to lose his second place when the Ferrari driver closed in on the McLaren on lap four only for Massa to misjudge his overtaking move and slide off onto the grass.

Hamilton, though, believes that the mistake wasn't entirely of the Brazilian's own making.

"That's the most difficult race I've ever had," declared the rookie Hamilton afterwards. "To see two Ferraris behind you, knowing they are quicker than you, it's very difficult to keep them behind.

"Felipe had a couple of moves but fortunately I was able to trick him into outbraking himself. I apologise for that, but at the end of the day we got the points so it doesn't really matter."

"Then I had Kimi hunting me down for most of the race. It was extremely hot in the cockpit. I ran out of water and I was getting hotter and hotter.

"It was tricky and I had to keep pushing to the last lap."

I think it did clearly shows who is the No1 and No2 driver in McLaren. Anyhow, it is always good to see McLaren is back to thier form. I expect a close title fight this year.

Because Alonso has a tremendous work rate and has worked extremely hard behind the scenes to get us back on track. The whole team appears more motivated and u can really see how important it was to the team to achieve the 1-2. It was nice to see Alonso and Hamilton giving high fives to each other after getting out of their cars. We have a really good team this year and the drivers are feeding off each other positively.

Agree. He drives fast, but he don't like to have anything to do with helping with the car. Even his setup is usually made by his engineers.
Comparing Fernando and Kimi during the 3 weeks break,

Fernando - went to Woking IMMEDIEATLY after the Aussie GP, helping the team with testing new parts and simulation and finished just 5 days before today's GP.
Kimi - Went for holiday, test for 2 days, and went AWOL.

Comparing both drivers, fernando didn't even came to the track during teh 4 day test here, and thus was on the back foot during teh whole weekend. so for him to win was a brilliant thing

linkin is spot on. And i couldn't be more pleased with the way we started off this season. We are traditionally slow starters but one of the best when it comes to developing the car through a season. Alonso has even said that there are more developments planned for the next race so we should see the gap closed further again thumbup.gif

Haha that would be much better of course tongue.gif but I think Bahrain is still too early to be able to fully be on pace with them yet....that's why this win is all the sweeter. The fact that we have been racking up the points bodes well for the rest of the season. At least we won't be playing catch up points-wise when the European races come wink.gif

no. we were slower today. If Massa was not so crappy, he could have pulled away easily. Even Fernando was suprised that not only he won, but the team got 1-2

Good result for McLaren. I'm hoping Alonso becomes the next Ayrton Senna for them, god bless his soul.

Only complaint I have it the 2 bloody hours it took me to get there. Not having earplugs isn't an option either. Babes were nice though biggrin.gif Oh but we are talking about the race... Nico Rosberg stopped right in front of where I was seated after experiencing engine failure and this swarm of human traffic suddenly descended in front of me. I guess it's the same with Malaysians anywhere. Have car trouble and everyone's suddenly an interested spectator.
