Man Dies in Suspected Ebola Case in Saudi Arabia

A Saudi man suspected to have been infected with the Ebola virus on a business trip to Africa died early Wednesday. He had been admitted to a hospital in Jeddah two days earlier with symptoms of hemorrhagic fever.

The man had just returned from a trip to Sierra Leone. The Saudi health ministry said that he would be buried according to both Islamic practice and international guidelines for suspected Ebola patients. The health ministry said that it was in touch with his family and watching for symptoms in people he had contact with. The kingdom has also suspended pilgrimage visas from West African countries.

They haven't been able to fully protect themselves, doctors and nurses are dying. They're wearing full protection biohazard suits, but the Ebola wards are just horrifying, 30 Ebola patients with one doctor and one nurse, both in space suits. Conditions are awful in those wards, we need more doctors and nurses - not even a space suit can totally protect you if the ward is really a mess.

What are the chances
that this outbreak becomes a
global pandemic?
permalink
[–]Prof_Stephen_MorseProfessor|Epidemiology|Columbia University[S] 188 points 5 days ago
The only good news, if there is good news, as Tom Frieden at the CDC says, is that Ebola kills fairly quickly and is not very transmissible. So I think the chances of global pandemic are minuscule. We could see isolated cases in other countries if someone gets on a plane and goes someplace with a hospital where the infection control isn’t very good. But even then, it would probably be localized. This is of course a problem for all the movies since they want to make whatever disease is in the film be very transmissible. Even the movie Contagion, which was accurate in many respects, had to really amp-up the transmissibility of the virus.

Ebola victims remain contagious even after death. Ebola is spread via bodily fluid, even in death their blood, saliva, bodily waste, etc can still infect others who came in contact with it. Heck even cured victims their body may adapt and be fine but they r still contagious to others. Which is why ebola victims are often shun driving them into deep depression.

MERBOLA coming soon. Ebola that spreads through respiratory track.

Hide in the jungle far from humanity, and come out at the end of the apocalypse.

Make sure you're not eaten by tigers in the mean-time. Good luck, everyone!

Yup, the two America most highly will survive after taking some experimental serum.... But not sure what is effect....
It may only temporary slows down the virus replication not totally kills all.

That's obvious from economic sense.

R&D in drugs takes a lot of money, billions of dollars and years of testing to make sure it's safe. E.g. in US they have strict clinical trials.

That's why drugs are expensive.

Datang 3rd world country, semuar complain mahal, takde duit, nak generic lah. That's why pharma companies invest in diseases where the potential patients can afford to pay for the drugs.

That's why Saudi discourage ppl who are too old and sick to perform the Haj

Treat of Ebola will not discourage many Muslims from performing the Haj

Full Haj, typically 1-mth in the Holy Land

What precaution to take, for him or for you

For you, to avoid him for say 2-weeks to 1-mth

For him, to avoid people and quarantine himself at home
