Guys i want to ask can i replace my 19" monitor with 32" TV for gaming. Why is monitor more expensive than TV? Isit because of the picture quality and refresh rate?

Standard definition TV in Malaysia is 576i. HDTV can be 1080i or 1080p.

This is the number number of lines vertically. The resolution. The higher, the better and sharper the image. "i" stands for interlaced. "p" means progressive. 576i means you do not really get 576 lines vertically. You only get half that. For each frame, the TV updates only the odd rows, then in the next frame only the even rows, then back to the odd rows, and so on. Obviously p is better than i.

My cheap notebook screen resolution is 1280x800. My desktop monitor (reasonably cheap, only 19 inch) does 1920x1200. That's higher than HDTVs.

Yes, you can hook up your TV to your computer and play games on your computer that way. I did that. But mine was only standard definition TV. Starting the game was difficult, because the resolution was too low to read the text on the start menu. But once the game started, it's fine to play on the TV. With most games. Some games might have small text that'll be hard to read.

All you need is a video card with a TV/AV output socket, and some cables to connect to your TV. I set the display card to show the same thing on the computer screen and the TV. Makes it easier to start games.

So will there be any other disadvantage? The picture quality? Because the price between tv n monitor is quite high..

Monitor is expensive for a reason.

Monitor has higher PPI, for clarity and details.

I moved from a 22" 1920x1080 LED monitor, to a 40" 1920x1080 LED HDTV.

Guess what? I went back to a proper PC monitor, a 27" 2560x1440.

For gaming, stay to proper PC monitors.

OK.. i'll get a proper monitor then. Thx. but just wondering if not for gaming (watch youtube or movies) isit okay to use the TV? i mean the quality isit top notch or it's gonna be plain sucks?

TV is a low res monitor. That's why so cheap.

It will look like TV. Watching videos would be perfectly fine. Playing games, some games works well on low res displays like TVs. Some don't work so well. Depends on the game.

Another issue with higher resolution gaming is you also need more expensive graphic card and better power supply if necessary. It may not be affordable to the user. Plan accordingly before you upgrade.

which brand of monitor do u prefer guys?

how about for non gaming? for watching movies & series... currently using 24" monitor..thinking to upgrade to bigger screen...monitor or TV?

personally, for monitor size bigger than 24", I would go for :
Dell P2714H 27" LED Monitor
Samsung S27D390H 27" LED
both are 1920x1080 full HD resolution / my favorite choice for 27" .
