The Revenant
This movie does not sound sexy, not inspiring initially just by looking at the poster, and the whole image seems to suggest that the movie was meant for serious weekday watch, paid to watch, that is. Not as a weekend leisure enjoyment.
Well after watching it I tend to agree only on one thing. This is not a weekend Leisure enjoyment, but for serious movie buff, this is a must watch. Especially true if we somehow seems to get saturated by over the top CGI, mindless actions, Hollywood mass productions overdose.
The whole film was shot as if entirely with one wide angle lens. Which I love, especially on the wild and ruthless terrain of the American Winter West. Wide angle also gave us the perspective of being an observant within the story itself.
Oh CGI is definitely there for sure. They are there just to make the events very very realistic. The bear scene, how many of you all who have watched it fearing the bear will actually bite his groin ? I do ! Dont' laugh ya.
The story is convincing, and it showed the raw and punishing events happening in a very tough natural environment. I like the movie very much.
I was pleasantly surprised that the haunting soundtracks was actually penned by Ryuichi Sakamoto ! It surely did not sound like his !
