Mr. Holmes (2015) Before you ask, there is no Robert Downey Jr, no Benedict Cumberbatch and not even Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary). Ian McKelly takes on the titular role. This is a BBC production about the famous detective, and gives us a "strip" down version of the character, in his twilight. It is gorgeously produced, well acted, cleverly written, melancholy, humorous and a fantastic movie really (drama, so be warned). The movie is told from three distinctive storylines. I was even surprised to find an Easter Egg in this Nicholas Rowe (Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)) appearing at Basil Rathbone in an old Sherlock Holmes movies... Confused? Watch the movie. If you like drama, give this a go. My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Mar 20 2016, 08:25 AM |

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Mar 14 2016, 04:04 PM) i did find point break 2015, a remake of the 1991 quite good. I'm not intend to watch this bcos of the low mark but bcos of your review i watched it yesterday..yes,its very entertaining and enjoyable, thanks to uthe drama is not as smooth as the old with patrick swayze and keanu reeves but the extreme sports in the breathtaking scenes with a dtshdma soundtrack is awesome. pleased to see edgar ramirez (carlos, wrath of titans) again. can't understand why rotten tomatoes gave it 1/5. i'll give it 3.5/5. ![]() |

The Hateful Eight (2015)
Believe it or not, I slept on this for two nights before writing this review. The reason being, I have absolutely NO IDEA how to write this review. Let me tell you why.. Two words. Quentin Tarantino. I really do not know what to make of him!! I have watched most of his stuff, and I still do not know what to make of him. He is a skilled director, and have to add, he there is a "sadistic" streak to him. The Good He makes movies which challenges his viewers. The Bad He makes movies which challenges his viewers through VIOLENCE!!! (I can imagine his sadistic glee look on his face directing the violence... kidda like a spoiled rich brat walking into a candy store knowing he is getting EVERYTHING his wants...) The Ugly THE VIOLENCE in his movies!!!! (In short, I am thoroughly challenged) Watched this on a Sunday evening. It is probably one of the most violent movies I have every seen. To top it off, you cannot fault Quentin for his title. He does exactly what his title suggest. Most characters in the movie are NOT NICE people. They are down right "hateful". Even the hero (or anti hero) Major Marquis Warren (played by Samuel L. Jackson), is down right nasty. All 8 main characters have absolutely NO REDEEMING features, which is an issue to me... There is a lot of shock violence in this movie. Watch it if you enjoy the genre or of you are a Quentin fan. My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Mar 22 2016, 04:00 PM |

Point Break (2015)
A remake of Point Break (1991) (Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze). I have watched the original and kinda liked it. The Good The movie is beautifully filmed. Just don't know if the Xtreme Sports were CGI'ed of for really The Bad Really, this movie needs a remake?? If you have watched the original, story wise, this have nothing more to add!! The Ugly The casting.... So... I don't think that they needed to remake this... My Two Sen. |

My Two Sen shock violence is his trademark. but the wit and dark humor is grossly missing in this hateful 8. his earlier works incl reservoir dogs, pulp fiction and kill bill were much better. hateful 8 is not even as good as inglorious basterds and django unchained. i won't expect more from him in future. QUOTE(Mov_freak @ Mar 22 2016, 04:02 PM) i thought it was good! ya, edgar ramirez was ok but did not match patrick swayze. same with luke bracey vs keanu reeves. while the drama is not as tight, i give it great marks for the variety of extreme sports filming. those were real sports people! Principal photography commenced on June 26, 2014 in Berlin. Shortly before production began in Berlin, Core got the cast and crew together to watch the original Point Break. The new team did not reach out to the original cast and crew; Bracey did not talk to Reeves, and Core did not reach out to director Kathryn Bigelow, though Ramirez did seek and receive the director's blessing.[4] Shooting took place in a total of 11 countries across four continents, using actual extreme sports stars and stuntmen.[17] Locations includes Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Berlin, France, Mexico, Venezuela, French Polynesia, India and the United States.[18][19] While the original film focused on just a few sports — primarily surfing — and used cranes and other Hollywood trickery to portray them, the new movie eschewed all of that, including green screens, and relied on real life practical stunts.[4] For the numerous stunts performed in the film, Core gather a group of the best snowboarders, free rock climbers, big wave surfers, high-speed motocross riders and wingsuit pilots in the world and filmed them, essentially, as actors.[7] This post has been edited by AVFAN: Mar 22 2016, 04:14 PM |
