i had thought it will make a great CNY movie but no.... not so good.

mortal engines is post apocalyptic dystopian movie based on a book.

the special effects are good but the story, the narrative is poor.

some critic called it "steampunk star wars" which i agree... u see elements of star wars and mad max in the film.

and being a film from peter jackson and fran walsh, u see bits of lord of the rings too.

stars hugo weaving, stephen lang and relatively unknown young actors/actresses.

a box office bomb, it grossed $85mil against a cost of $100mil. 2/5.

Hope alita wont disappoints with Cameron and Rodriguez in helm

meanwhile, here's a good new korean movie:

the great battle 2018 is a korean war epic movie, set in the 6xx AD when the chinese tang army invaded old korea.

historically, it is not quite accurate but the siege at an-si is real.

the battle scenes are excellent, reminds you much of LOTR The Two Towers' battle at helms deep.

plenty of swords, axes, spears, arrows, fire, trebuchet and pretty women warriors shooting off crossbows.

a lot of action... and good music... best to watch in min dts5.1. 3/5.

a great choice for family movie - ralph breaks the internet.

it is a heart warming and funny animated sequel to wreck-it-ralph 2012.

good animation, creative work with the characters and narrative. 3.5/5.

Just watched POLAR on netflix. i give 5/5 !

BlacKkKlansman - very well done. Based on true events.

Kind of sad until now Racist still around! Human is sad sometimes.

Watched Bohemian Rhapsody with the missus last night.
Even though both of us are not fans of biography movie, we were quite moved by Rami's portrayal of Freddie Mercury.
Well deserved the Oscar for Best Actor

Only like Black Panther. I hope this year will have better movies

the full bluray contains extras: the full 6 songs, (not 4) at live aid concert and details of how the movie was made.
quite incredible the 4 actors didn't know how to play musical instruments, had to learn for a few weeks.
original clothes, furniture, instruments were borrowed from brian may n roger taylor for the filming.

riding on the success of bohemian, this year, there will b rocketman (elton john), yesterday (beatles).

my fav's wud b bohemian, first man, black panther.
yet to watch green book and roma.

2019... alita, avengers endgame, x-men dark phoenix, captain marvel, shazam, MIB Int'l, spiderman, godzilla... many superheroes... again!

if u like klansman, u will like Green Book - lighter, some humor but confronts the same USA 60's racism issues in the deep south.
