Point Break (2015)

A remake of Point Break (1991) (Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze).

I have watched the original and kinda liked it.

The Good

The movie is beautifully filmed. Just don't know if the Xtreme Sports were CGI'ed of for really

The Bad

Really, this movie needs a remake?? If you have watched the original, story wise, this have nothing more to add!!

The Ugly

The casting....

So... I don't think that they needed to remake this...

The Good Dinosaur (2015)

Well, Pixar finally did it.

They finally made a movie that I did not like.

From the very first scene, something was off for me.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

They Dinosaur as pioneer in new frontiers (farmer, herders etc). This is an amazingly difficult concept to accept!!!

Uninspiring characters.

Clunky storyline...

The only thing that works in the movie is the CGI, but that cannot save the movie.

Really? This is a Pixar movie....

One word.

Disappointed.

Yep. Crap animation film from Pixar. What were they thinking....

really? i didn't like Brave & Cars too.

but then occasionally we'd get something from Pixar like Inside Out that just blows our minds  notworthy.gif

I kinda like Brave and tolerate Cars (I put this as second worst Pixar animation, Good Dinosaur being the first worst)

I think the "American Frontier" thingie did the Good Dinosaur in.

I am really surprise for a company that has a log track record of strong story telling, they actually thought this storyline wold sell!!

What they heck were they thinking.

Just hope it does not have a ripple effect and they go into panic mode and start second guessing themselves and produce EVEN more crap...

Species II (1998)

Apart from the good practical effect for this movie... really not much can be said about the movie...

The script writer also has an amusing story to share (special feature) about the ending of the story

Will not spoil it for you (eg pm me if you want me to tell you)

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016)

Oh gosh, where do I begin...

From the very first scene I knew something was off...

I googled-fu the movie and sure enough, the "off-ness" was stated on Wikipedia... The movie was originally intended to be filmed in New Zealand and China. And in the end, it was only filmed in New Zealand... New Zealand, as pretty as it is, is NO CHINA!!! What the heck were they thinking!!

Moreover, casting Natasha Liu Bordizzo as one of the lead... there is NOTHING Chinese about her. Her demure, even the way she looks at things.. Everything is off...

I am all for linking up Chinese all over the world to create new stuff, again another casting issue, Harry Shum Jr., a dancer.

I have seen alot of dancers who had ventured into martial arts movies quite successfully, Zhang Ziyi & Cheng Pei-Pei comes to mind.

But there is a certain stiffness to Harry and it is so obvious he is no "martial arts" person.

There is NO POETRY to this movie.

None what so ever.

MAJOR FAIL!!!!

If this is the future of Martial Arts movies.... cry.gif

A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)

I know, slow poke...

This is one entertaining comedy

Seth MacFarlane may just be the next... Woody Allen, just a dash more.... vulgar!!

Western frontier with a rambling of "Woody Allen"

If you want something different and funny, go for it.

The Monkey King 2 (2016)

Because of the really bad The Monkey King (2014) (shame on you Donnie Yen) I did not watched this in the cinema in Feb 2016.

Now after having a chance to watch it, I kinda regret that decision.

It is really good!!

All parties involved took their roles seriously and gave their best performance.

I especially appreciate Aaron Kwok's portrayal as Sun Wukong.

I always considered him a better actor compared to a singer

A very good adaptation to the source material.

Watch it if you like the books or fantasy movies!!

No Way Out (1987)

This is a thriller, with Kevin Costner (I believe this started his film career), Gene Hackman (always good) and Sean Young (before Pet Detective).

When I watched this in 1987, it was the bomb!! It was like watching Enemy of the State (which also has Gene Hackman) for the first time.

It was about technology (as per 1989) and criminal investigation.

Now watching back, this movie looks "tired and jaded" because so many movie after this, had done much much better for the genre (Well, Enemy of the State comes to mind).

Having said that, the ending would still surprise you>

So, if you like stuff from the 80s, and you want something different, give this a go.

i highly agree, the 1st one is totally a shit fest. the storyline is fked up. the cgi is too much, and donnie yen doesnt fit the role at all that it become too annoying just to watch him.

this new one is amazingly way better. like u said, aaron kwok definitely bring the wukong spirit with him without having to overly act the monkey character part.
the story and cgi also improves alot.

in fact i cant wait for the next movie, i hope they do make it.

Same here.

Though Aaron had gone on the record about not reprising the role (eg 4 hours makeup)

Death Becomes Her (1992)

Director: Robert Zemeckis
Stars: Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, Goldie Hawn

If you had not had a chance to watch this, you are in for a treat!

I first watched this many many years ago, in a cinema, in Australia!!

And since then I cannot tell you how many times I had watched this (On TV, LD, etc)

What I love best about this blu ray release is, it is finally release in WIDE SCREEN!!! (The LD & DVD releases were in 4:3... Go figure...)

Few points I would like to make about this movie.

1) Robert Zemeckis is the director and he has got a dark streak to him (this is a dark comedy)
2) Remember, this was BEFORE Jurassic Park, so no digital dinosaurs yet. This was one of the first movies that heavily relied on CGI to work and boy did it deliver!!

The three main leads were also GREAT!!! (In the making of Meryl Streep stated that her mom visited her on set, and was surprise to find her acting with a blue cloth bag on her head (watch the movie and you will understand why). Meryl had a hard time explaining to her why... laugh.gif

On another note, this is the movie I took notice of Isabella Rossellini!!! I had watched Blue Velvet (1986) before watching this, but this movie made me take notice of HER!!!! tongue.gif

Watch this, lots of fun!!

Deadpool (2016) (Addendum)

I am going to make a very unpopular observation here...

As entertaining as this movie was the first time round, it does not amuse as much second time round.

With is breaking the fourth wall, humor and nudity, they don't register as well the first time round.

Maybe it is me.

Just another two sen.

If you enjoy this in multiple viewing, you enjoy it in multiple viewing

i thought it was alright.

it is not a typical superhero movie.

more of an action comedy.

must say ryan reynolds did a pretty good job.

action, animation quite well done, humor was good.

the dtshdma audio was good.

sequel said to go ahead.

I liked it the first time round

Not so much the second time around...

Just don't think it "survives" close scrutiny.

Just a personally opinion.

Tango & Cash (1989)

The last "American movie" release in the 80s (Dec 1989).

Sylvester Stallone - Lt. Raymond Tango
Kurt Russell - Lt. Gabriel Cash
Teri Hatcher (gosh she was young) - Katherine 'Kiki' Tango

The same year Warner Brothers made a killing with Tim Burton's Batman (1989) in the summer.

I remember liking this movie when I first watched it. Probably on VHS (any kiddies remember what that is?? laugh.gif)

It is not until now after re-watching it and doing some research did I know that it was hit with massive production problems during film.

1) Script was not complete when shooting started.
2) Patrick Swayze, who was originally cast to play Lt. Gabriel Cash, backed out for the movie Road House.
3) The original Director of Photography, Barry Sonnenfeld (Adams Family, Men In Black), was fired (supposedly Slyvester pushed for that) and Donald E. Thorin took over.
4) Director, Andrei Konchalovsky also got fired two third through filming, replaced by Albert Magnoli.

According to imdb, the original budget was $55,000,000 and the movie made $63,000,000 (USA), and wikipedia mention that 20,000,000 was the original budget. which us surprising.

Batman (1989) had a budget $35,000,000 (I heard it was the most expensive movie at the time!!) and grossed $251,188,924 (USA)...

Okay this movie is a buddy cop comedy movie.

Surprisingly Sylvester play peppy and Kurt played the slob...

Fun movie. Nothing surprising, but fun movie.

Both Sylvester and Kurt were at the top of their game!

If you like cop comedy, go for it!

My Two Sen

P.S. This movie transfer to HD is far FAR superior compared to Star Trek The Motion Picture (1979). What the hey! (Paramount would spend money remastering Star Trek The Next Generation TV Series and not make a proper transfer for the movies!!!!)

P.P.S. Kurt Russell in drags... *Yikes* shocking.gif

The Boy (2016)

Okay. This is something different.

Firstly, there is alot of drama in this "horror" movie.

And frankly for a "horror" movie, way TOO much drama!!

Greta Evans (Lauren Cohan) is an American running away from her past . In fact, she ran all the way to England, and became a nanny (A fan of Mary Poppins maybe?? laugh.gif)

She works for a very wealthy family, the Heelshire, taking care of their son, Brahms.

When she was first introduced to Brahms (her first day), she was shock to find that he is a 2.5" porcelain doll!!!

She also met the local grocer, Malcolm (Rupert Evans, last seen by me in Hellboy) on her first day.

I know, it sound a little prozac'ed, and for much of the movie it is.

The ending does redeem itself a little, I just wish more things had happened during the course of the movie.

Granted, I wasn't paying that much attention, was cleaning my apartment whilst watching this (distracted?)... Maybe need to re-watch...

Will keep you posted.
