May i know where can i find bigger and cheaper priced lubricants other than Aeon's Eneos/spare parts shop?
I know a little about my engine oils but i do not want to be limited to what i can find at car spare parts shops and Aeon's Eneos isnt cheap.

Thanks.

Thanks. Any spare parts shop to recommend in Jalan Ipoh or nearby where they have a big selection of ori oils?

Btw im currently using NASA Semi syn 10W40. Bought this a few years ago for RM75 if not mistaken. Doesnt make much difference with my previous Pennzoil Fully Syn oil.

Shell Helix Ultra that good ah?
The thing now is even if i bring my own engine oil to the shop, the mechanic will charge me RM15 as service charge. sad.gif

it's only "good" because it's among the cheaper/(est) reputable full synthetic smile.gif

and yea, oil change these days min also in the 10-15, typically 20ish already, not including your own oil/oil filter.

If i can get it at RM135, i guess its good price but only if i can find that price/close la.
I think you guys said Castrol Magnatec isnt that good as they claim, right?
Btw, whenever im in supermarkets i always see what engine oil they have and i seldom see xW30 oils except for Perodua 3L bottles. Super hard to get these even from those spare parts shops (at a decent price). shakehead.gif

I saw Shell Helix Ultra promotion in Aeon Big for RM159 and Mobil 3000 Fully Syn 5L for RM149.

If given a choice of Semi-Syn #W-30 and Fully Syn #W-40 for the same price, which would you go for?

Edit: Guess the question has already pretty much answered. biggrin.gif

personally neither.

if i no matter what have to choose between the 2, then fully.

if the question was xw30 semi syn vs xw50 fully syn, then i may go for xw30 depending on manufacturer viscosity specification and just settle for a shorter OCI.

Because my current car isn't a heavily modified car nor is it turbo charged and is a japanese almost-bullet-proof engine, I'd go for the fully syn 5W40. But if it were my previous modified Wira with high comp setup, balanced internals etc etc  I'd go with the 5W30 mineral and just target to swap it out 5k oci or 6k max.

I actually have a preference for #W30 oils and my engine is also stock but since many of you are using fully im not quite sure what to get..

Let's talk reality here. Whether I pour 5W30 FS Motul or 5W30 FS Pennzoil in for your car, you're not going to feel a difference between the two since yours is probably a daily driver. Between the two you'll probably feel it in your wallet only. Long term (10 years or more) perhaps you might see the difference in terms of wear and tear parts, but it won't be so significant that it warrants RM300 5W30 Esther based oil changes every 8000km.

So just find the right viscosity, if you can afford FS then go for it, otherwise semi is fine and go with shorter OCI vs FS. Personally 8000km for semi and 10-12k km for FS is pretty reasonable for me. But once the car starts to feel sluggish or your FC starts to get affected, it's time to change oils. Take note of the mileage travelled and just stick with that OCI for future oil changes since it's your cars characteristics.

Wallet takes priority la. Unless you're talking about a race car that you own and drive regularly, then that's a different story.

To be honest, if i cant find a decent priced #W30 FS, i would actually opt for a mineral one. Totally agreed with you on the savings part.

I bought a bottle of Castrol's Magnatec 10W-40 at Aeon Big for RM99 recently after failing to find any decent priced SS/FS xW-30 oils. I went to Aeon, Aeon Big, several spare parts and mechanics and the prices were expensive so i settled for the magnatec since i've never used it before.

I'll do my oil change next month. Any reviews from those who've used the SS Magnatec before?

It breaks down fast. But what is true for me may not be true for you. Just keep your senses open for any differences in engine performance.

And you must be damn unlucky, I saw a lot of 5W30 Shell 1L bottles at Aeon and then a lot of Elf semis at Tesco. And did you come across any Pennzoil brand oil at the spare parts shops? Perhaps you have one of those faces that look like you're a waterfish?

Damn i didnt think about buying individual 1L bottle so i didnt gave them a second look. The spare parts shops are expensive. At least around my place la.
