Hey guys, need your advice if its okay to switch to a lighter grade oil.

Scenario:
My current oil is 5w40. My daily commute consist of MAINLY bumper to bumper traffic, stuck in traffic light, idle while waiting for light to go geeen, and low speed driving. Is it okay to go down a grade to 5w30?

Engine : Campro
*
If high milage better w40

My car also 300k+ km, thinking wana go thinner w30 also
Haven't do so, still thinking ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Why so?

Takes more energy to move through thicker engine oil ma
More resistance, more protection, but worse fc
Thats why w40 u feel u need to hit the pedal more

No issues to remain thin oil at high mileage as long follow manufacturers recommended viscosity. I guess ur foreman inform u this? To use thicker viscosity at high mileage?

Not foreman only, u can Google & see YouTube videos, eg engineering explained youtuber.

Im about to say the same thing

Oops, sorry if causes any confusion on specific wordings.. My bad
Was busy.. So I just attached an example only..
But, still i think if going thicker helps in older cars wear, going reverse would be worse, no?
Theres also a specific video asking not to reverse to lower viscosity... Cant remember where

I think no oil consumption, service jaga very good, can do with a grade lower.

You're also Campro user ka? haha
*
Not campro engine
Just my wife's old myvi

For ur case, since no oil consumption, go for it
My wifes car, last time with w30 engine oil by 10k service, drop almost near the lower limit level on dipstick, after switch to w40 much better
Engine also feel quiter

Why? Isn't 30 thinner oil?
*
Yes, thinner better fuel consumption
I read ur statement terbalik ๐Ÿ˜‚

so which one clear the old engine oil, suction machine or just manual drain plug?
*
QUOTE(zuozi @ May 18 2024, 01:37 PM)
Both will get the job done.

Based on experience watching, not doing it, my regular workshop use suction machine. It makes my car need more EO vs drain oil, cz with suction, the balance 1L bottle is almost empty. But with drain it  balance half

QUOTE(Thrust @ May 19 2024, 09:14 AM)
Draining from drain plug is always better. As you are ascertain that all the old oil are drained out.

Suction needs to move the tube around and will not extract all the oil out.
*
Recently i saw many vidoes with workshop using flushing machines where they use machine to flow in and out eo. Just like engine flush method but with help of pump machine.. This method should be best

Theres also another where they drain old eo, then use pump to push out residual oil that wont flow out naturally, easily half a liter more old oil came out

is it but i've been using mizu engine oil for almost 1 years plus ( fully 5w40 previously and currently 10w40 semi ) , so far very smooth , i had no complaint bout it

upcoming gonna use fully 10w40 mizu for my camry

so which engine oil would you recommend me ?
*
Use back toyota engine oil or..

Im using AISIN, shopee official store,
10w40 $120
Fully syn ranges $140-170, after cashback around 15% cheaper
Im using the $170 with PAO & ESTER
https://my.shp.ee/c3v65nJ

But this prices at 9/9 or payday sales, normal price $200+

Ohh.. If u been using semi syn for some time, fully syn with ester may cause seal leaks after it clears some old sludge trapped around the seals.. Careful there

Been exclusively using Toyota Fully Syn 10w40 (golden bottle) for 13 years now. Which I felt it was pretty okay

Just purchased MOTUL 8100 Power 5w30 for a change.

Contemplated over the Shell Helix Ultra Gen 3 10w40 for abit before pulling the trigger on MOTUL

We are not suppose to change the viscosity especially w40 to w30 after so many yrs

I forgot, but there will be problems.. Frictions, maybe oil leaks?
