Both are pretty decent. If I have to choose I'd go with Syntium.

i'd go with shell just for the pureplus hype tongue.gif

but eh, i wonder if the api cert is applicable for pureplus series since they are still called helix ultra :/

Pennzoil also have pureplus for its FS 5W30 API/SN but not sure whether its the same technology with Shell's or not.

same with shell, it wasn't specified whether the new pureplus is included. im not sure if they started printing the API logo on their new pureplus series:

manage to get a shot off google before i posted this out

regardless, someone took the extra mile:

http://www.f150forum.com/f38/ford-tech-svc...243990/index60/

so even without proper API Certification, this should be no problem for usage wink.gif

pennzoil license is since May 2015 so it should be legit.
Shell should be as well since it is a collaborated product (pure plus)

Guys, after service, would the engine turn to black really fast, I mean real fast like less than 100KM after oil change.

SC told me that it's normal. Googled a bit on web, it's very common for diesel engine, but petrol turbo engine?

This was after the first oil change at 15,000KM, for the Volkswagon 1.4TSI engine.

On the right is the new oil from the bottle ( Castrol Edge Fully Synthetic), the dark oil on the left side of paper was from the engine, 1 day after the oil change.
Normal?

@Outpace : I think that's normal for an engine that wasn't flushed. Shows the oil is doing its work and as long as you don't feel any performance loss, it should be fine. You want the oil to be clean longer flush the engine a few times until the output is clear, then only fill your own oil.

Also, a lot depends on your environment. Dusty roads, sandy roads, haze, etc all will contribute to dirty oil to some extent.

that's why i prefer mineral oil with shorter oil change interval.

I think this happens when the old oil is not completely drained out from the oil sump. It could be due to:

i) design of the engine that a bit of oil cannot be drain out from the oil sump pan. That's why it will become brown very fast when mixed with fresh oil;

ii) the mechanic did not do a proper job by draining out all the used oil by using a suction type machine instead of opening the drain bolt.
*
there will always be previous/leftover oil within the engine compartments/oil passageways/channels/pump etc

no way it will be drained completely and no way mechanics will use a suction machine to suck everything out nor will they open up the oil pan/sump or engine top/valve covers to remove all the oil.

Just changed the oil filter at 7.5k km. Indeed there's a bit of improvement in power delivery. 7.5k km more to go to the uncharted territory, mythical 20,000km oci. Hopefully by then, the mechanic remember to properly sample the uo.

wouldn't that add up to 15k km instead of 20k km?

additionally, if changing oil filter did anything, it meant that:
1) the oil may not be suitable in dispersing carbon/waste
2) the oil filter capacity may not be suitable in containing that much carbon/waste

what engine oil btw?

Hehe. Calculated risk. Giving my wife an excuse for an engine swap or a spanking new mazda 6 in the garage.

Which Penrite lube you using? They have this kinda weird +10 tech that's unique to them. I'm still researching on how that works. Also, their prices are quite competitive cuz for around RM240 a bottle (thereabouts) they give 5L bottles.
