If you think from economy of scale POV, Giant/Tesco may not be able to offer this low price anymore if they bring in 2 versions of SHU, as the volume of 5w40 will be halved (maybe) and that does not give them the bargaining chip to get lower cost. Maybe they can start market survey by importing a small batch of 5w30 and sell it alongside the regular 5w40. Consumers can then "vote"" through their choice of viscosity and Giant/Tesco can adjust their order volume through this sales feedback.

Perodua, Honda, Proton etc cars are all using 30 weight oil dy. Those 40 weight are usually used by Wira, Perdana etc. My guess is if GIANT / TESCO bring in 30 weight oil, they will fly off the shelf a lot faster.

QUOTE(Goh1992 @ Jan 23 2019, 01:16 AM) Hi guys, im switching from 20w50 to 10w40 I feel better on performance but there is a lot smoke(white color) coming out from exhaust pipe. If that mean the oil not thick enuf? and i need tp switch back immediately or should be fine to wait until 6k mileage? Mycar: iswara with 75k mileage considering your car is a proton iswara, it should be quite old. Have you changed your valve stem oil seal before? If not most probably your engine oil is leaking into combustion chamber and being burned off since you mentioned your exhaust pipe is coming out with a lot of white smoke. If your exhaust pipe is really emitting a lot of white smoke, the chances is your engine oil wont be able to sustain until 6k km, it will be fully burned off before then.

Exactly, 30% EO gone within a week (1000km) Thanks for your advice, I going to change valve seal and piston ring to see how is the result๐ Does it very costly to change valve seal & piston ring?

Ask for mechanic advise but must be a reputable and honest one, cause some old cunning fox mechanic will tell you to to overhaul the whole engine. There is a chance it is just valve stem oil seal. that one is not expensive and tedious job. Just need to pop up the valve cover gasket and then change the valve stem oil seal only. My car was having the same problem previously, the foreman keep pshyco me telling me need to change piston ring with all sorts of gasket, i told him just to change my valve stem oil seal as I'm pretty sure everything else were fine and true enough the engine oil burning issue went away immediately after the foreman changed the valve stem oil seal...

QUOTE(ADJ @ Jan 24 2019, 11:38 PM) Why the censoring from Giant. Shell already knew that "someone" already doing gray import of genuine Shell oils. That's why Shell Malaysia being kiasu - advocate on their labels - Made for Malaysia . Btw dammit. I just bought mine 2 days ago! At RM 99.88. If I knew I would had hold on a few more days. Oh well...

I have attached a file from my car guide book. Thanks in advance ! According to manual both is fine. Personally I would go for Xw40 for better protection instead of 30 which might give you better performance (feels slightly lighter on acceleration) and may give slightly better fuel consumption. I used to have similar car to yours with 250kkm (optima), had been using Xw40 on it

Thicker oil doesn't mean better protection. It is only for consideration if you drive in really high heat environment or always putting the car on higher rev range (eg 4x4 trekking or circuit tracking). On our driving environment, thicker oil just an added drag to engine efficiency and cooling. Go with the lightest oil recommended in the manual is a better choice. If it is in the manual, that means it is validated by the car manufacturer itself. This post has been edited by wkc5657: Jan 28 2019, 11:12 AM

Nahh, most engine have a splash guard so oil won't hit the cap when its running Just make sure to straighten out the dip stick so the reading is still accurate
