QUOTE(sitescope @ Jun 12 2017, 09:58 AM) Fully syn is worth if u use ur car everyday For kapcai rider that use a car maybe once a mth, better use semi syn Unless u got extra money to chg fully syn for every 5k km if once a mth better sell car and ride uber.

i think using a cheapo full syn > branded semi syn.
semi syn itself is already sounded like pirated/unpure by adding min 1% syn can also called semi syn.

QUOTE(wkc5657 @ Jun 13 2017, 03:50 PM) This perception is a little dangerous. For branded semi synthetic, at least you can CONFIRM that it at least meet API spec. But for unbranded/cheapo full synthetic, you don't even know what type of oil that's filled in. Can fill recycled oil or normal mineral oil or whatever unknown blend but can just anyhow print label saying some kind of superior synthetic oil. For branded ones, at least you have the assurance that they are not willing to mess up as it will affect their future business big time. If really got issue, can seek their technical team if you're willing to go the extra mile. Those cheapo/unbranded ones, can just produce 1 batch, then change label. No traceability. No saying that all cheapo synthetics are blended by crooks but just bear in mind that the risk is really high there. i can't blame you for using iphone, but all other phones are just fine like engine oil.

QUOTE(razor_max @ Jun 17 2017, 11:17 AM) Market price for oil nowdays not so expensive like we thought but the price eo for car rocketing high... Who is controlling the price for engine oil in the market..? consumer controls it, demand decides the supply, suppose you ended up buy online Rm60 instead and pay rm20 for labor only, their sales will drop drastically, hence either force them to focus more on quality services instead of pushing overpriced products.

what else do you guys check (on regular basis) other than the following mentioned?
- engine oil level, power sterling oik, break oil, tire pressure, coolant water, wiper water, battery voltage.

QUOTE(wkc5657 @ Nov 22 2017, 11:16 AM) Even mazda's new car range also specify 10000km on hx7, what do you think? You missed out the most important one, tyre thread. ok add that in, engine oil level, power sterling oik, break oil, tire pressure & thread, coolant water, wiper water, battery voltage. what about timing belt tension? (never check that before) anything else i missed?

QUOTE(wkc5657 @ Nov 23 2017, 09:27 AM) What car are you driving? Normally, presumably timing belt type (chain type almost impossible to access), if setup properly initially, hardly need to touch it until time for next replacement. it's a timing belt type, forgot the replacement cycle already, any method to check whether the tension (and other concerns) is out of the service performance already?

QUOTE(chemistry @ Jun 24 2018, 02:10 AM) Yes, there is difference. [attachmentid=9876306] which has better cold start viscosity generally speaking, full syn, or semi syn?

QUOTE(outpace @ Jun 27 2018, 01:37 PM) you can say most of the EO that provide wider range of protection at cold and running heat are full syn, but strictly speaking cold start viscosity got nothing to do with full syn / semi syn / mineral. Full syn is generally more "stable" or slower to degrade/breakdown from its original condition when it was new. lower number perform better during cold start. is semi syn simply a small percentage of full syn mixed with mineral oil?

would you rather:
1. any brand of full syn oil.
2. branded semi syn oil.
vote with reason.

theoretically speaking, if you only use 1km in a year on full synthetic, how many years do you think it can last before the engine oil degenerate itself?

QUOTE(ayamxxx @ Feb 23 2019, 04:35 PM) Play safe. Just change once per year considering your very low mileage trying to debunk mechanics myth from material engineering perspective.
