QUOTE(Enzo1211 @ Aug 2 2014, 10:05 AM) To all sifu, pls share your pictures and location Not really sure if this is the right place to ask I've been doing macro in gasing but can't find any robber fly Pls help!!! Robber flies are often found in more secluded places. Of course, whether you can find them or not also depends on seasonality. Afaik, there are robber flies in Bukit Gasing, though you can try FRIM for better chances, especially during the wet season |

QUOTE(Enzo1211 @ Aug 4 2014, 11:31 PM) I suppose 7-11am is the right time to go Still, as mentioned earlier whether you can find one depends on seasonality, and of course, whether you know where to find them Robberflies usually will perch on the tips of dead twigs pointing upwards or foliages. Some old Robber Fly photos for those who are wondering what they look like Robberfly by PF T.J., on Flickr Robberfly by PF T.J., on Flickr Robberfly 2 (upclosed) by PF T.J., on FlickrThese insects are very popular to Macro Photographers because (i) They will return to their original perching spot even if disturbed (like dragonflies/damselflies); (ii) They are very cooperative, especially when eating (they are carnivores); They have very large, colourful eyes which are good to test the effectiveness of your flash diffusion; (iv) They come in a wide range of diversity (some gold coloured ones are very rare and highly coveted! while some can grow as large as 2"!) To be honest I've not really seen much robber flies lately as well, I really wanted to test my new diffuser on them haha |
