I've been wanting to upgrade my sound system lately. My HU is Blaupunkt and currently running on OEM rear and front speakers.

I went to a car acc jz now and they recommended me JL complete set of components for RM380 + installation. Anyone heard of JL?

Then JL sub for RM380+ using one monoblock (Rm600) to power it. Gosh!~ $$ Anyone heard of the brand JL? How is it? Do you think a moderate RM400++ monoblock is enough to power it?

Huh? What do you mean by xxx?

I Dunno, saw it in a JL box complete with tweeters, croosovers etc... It's not at shop but at house one. So might be cheaper. I dunno. It's XR version I guess.

Req? I dunno much, I simply need add bass to my current system with budget less than RM1k

No point keep telling him trying the woofer out, if he had never heard an original unit playing, he probably wouldn't notice the one playing is fake anyway. For subs especially, even if there's a pair, one is a fake, one is an original, being A/B tested, i guess some people wouldn't even notice the difference. And again, with this kind of instances of selling fakies, some people might be having originals on the demo board but his speakers are fakies. wink.gif

The performance WOULD definitely be different, you can't exactly copy an item EXACTLY as in 100%, can you? And the price really very much reflects it's quality of parts used.

JL audio to me is a highend stuff.

Check it out at http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_pages.php?page_id=134

The price usualy come along way up high. If not I should be using it. tongue.gif

I overcome a JL woofer w7 series that cost RM2k above.

Please beware.

Although usable but what's the point if the quality doesn't meet requirement?

Hmm.. Prokick, Kickers, Pegasus(forget spelling) should within the budget.

I remember I get Prokick Sub-Woofer 12" at range of RM600-700.

Then the rest of amount just go for a 2ch amp for the Sub-woofer.

Bro i am from kch as well but now residing in KL tongue.gif

Well regarding fake JL it is easy to tell them apart if you have listen to the real ones before. Basically fake ones my experience is normally the JL 12 w3 v1 and 12 w3 v2.
Characteristic is that its power handling not as high as the real one and its loses abit of the trademark tight and solid bass JL is famous for. It tends to sound abit lose and boomy abit.

But just a note the testing we did was we even send it to the local distributer to tell them apart. Exterior wise is almost 100 % identical. except the rubber at the side of the woofer will fade after a while. The only way to see the difference sad to say is in the VOICE coil meaning you need to take it out to see its fake tongue.gif. the fake ones the coil is smaller and less wire coils.

Hope that helps.

BTW my friend in kch also drives a EK9 with carbon hood. you might have seen him. he got quite a decent sound system. maybe he could help you out smile.gif

how good is pioneer compare to the rest? I consulted my friend this afternoon. He told me he had his pionner installed at only Rm400 plux the box. If so, I would then get a RM600 monoblock. How about if two channel amp? what's the difference?

if u 1 precision bass as in responsive get a 2 channel class a/b (which almost all of 'em r) and if u wanna powerful bass then go for a monoblock..

my fren's pioneer which costed him less than rm400 satisfied beginner stage.. and it sounds not bad either.. fetch it if u r interested.. smile.gif

Finally I got my ICE installed.

I installed Lanzar 12" Subwoofer instead of Pionner which is cheaper.
I'm using Oxygen 4ch to power it, and also a pre-amp and a 5" LA Componnent for front. All cost me RM1.15k.
Any comment? So far I'm satisfied with them since I'm a newbie.

Planned to install Sony 12" Subwoofer but the package alone without componnent cost me Rm1.1k!

I'm waiting to buy 6" good componnent to install front and the current LA put rear. Surprisingly, there are two sets behind, one 5" and one 6". I never know. So nw I had my 6" pionner midbass (from front) installed behind and using back the 5" OEM speaker.

hehe, being a newbie to the ICE world, Lanzar so far satisfied me a lot. But I don't really like those freak people who higher up the woofer volume la tongue.gif till cant really hear the song!

Anyway, I got a preamp and I supposed with all those buttons on it, I could only adjust the subwoofer volume, any explanation? I guess they only connect the preamp to woofer and not to the componnent. Could I do any connection to the speakers DIY?

pre-amp actually doesn't serve the "right" device to tune the sound

my Blaupunkt player has this setting "X-bass" not sure what it is. Anyone?

i think it's like a bass booster.. alpine call it MX(media xpander) but it enhances the sound.. claimed that it gifs better SQ to mp3s which i think it isn't.. it mixed up all my sounds tongue.gif

Each Hu got their own bass function.. but I don't like that... may cause sound mix up, can't hear vocal, music & bass separately...
I prefer tune bass by amp...HU zero setting...then woofer board tune...lol

nah
X-Bass on balupunkt is just a bass booster
Alpine's Media Xpander is a much more useful tool with EQ, X-O, and TA

It goes to "Low" "Mid" and "High" settings, I just set MID. Can't feel any difference though.

Anyway, how do you guys tune woofer using amp?

80? wah... quite bassy eh, as I'm listening to Jay's songs nowadays... with high volume, if i set lower frequency, can't really listen to the songs.. hehe... it's like the woofer itself is louder than the componnents biggrin.gif

@daniel31

what car you drive? componnents? a lot of my friends got pionner sub also hehe... it's quite popular here in kch biggrin.gif But now they say mine is better hehe... listening to Techno songs biggrin.gif

Anyway, my componnents are now connected directly from my HU. My friends have been asking me to connect to my my amp, how good quality it produce actually? Like?

Why you use 4 channel don't use 2 channel of it to push your component?

can't DIY ho? I don't really listen to the "psss" sound though, it all depends on my CDs... mostly the songs are downloaded. Would the amp help to get rid of the sound?

if u c the amp rationg/specs, there is a thing called THD-total harmonic distortion.. normally they r rated below 0.001%.. i'm reffering to those branded stuffs larhh.. not those few hundred bucks stuffs..

the "pss" sound is simplified to b easy understand yet behind there r still lots of noise to be heard if the THD is high..

all i can say is that the amp performs better than the 1 from HU and louder (as in powerful) than the HU.. icon_rolleyes.gif
