14"
HP Pavilion 14-N270TX, i5-4200U + Nvidia 840M + 8GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM1899[2.03kg], 4GB, FreeDOS; W8.1@RM2099

recommending this one due to the faster 8GB SSHD; the RAM should be upgradable as well  icon_rolleyes.gif
*upgrade to at least 8GB RAM, will help with Photoshop rendering and multitasking

If you want something slightly lighter, then this:
14"
Lenovo
Ideapad Flex 14, i3-4010U + Nvidia 820M +(1366x768; touch) + 8GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM1799, 4GB (soldered), W8, 2 yrs; color: black

*Ram not upgradable, CPU also weaker. There is an i5 variant but over your budget

1. Preferred Brand:No preferred brand.
2. Budget:RM4k+/-
3. Usage:gaming, heavy multitasking, some Microsoft office usage
4. Preferred laptop/screen size:none as long as within my budget

Currently eyeing on lenovo y50, illegear re-15 and gigabyte p27 after some researches but having dilemma on choosing which since I can try Lenovo y50 in my area but then illegear is on promo(free ssd upgrade very tempting).
*
i'd say go for Illegear RE-15. you will need the exceptionally good cooling for gaming and as said, free SSD promo.

1. Preferred Brand:Any Brand
2. Budget: Below RM3000
3. Usage : Microsoft Office, photo Editing
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13-15 inch

I'm looking for laptop with FullHD screen (for photo editing), minimum 4 hours battery life and 128GB SSD (for faster boot).

Currently I'm considering Lenovo Flex 2 (upgraded with SSD) and HP Pavilion 14-N270TX. But I'm also considering Lenovo Y50 and Macbook 13 with retina display.. Is it worthy to save a bit more for Y50 and Macbook Pro Retina since I only use my laptop for Microsoft office and photo editing?

Anyway, thank you.. smile.gif

PS: Just ignore the naysayers in this thread.. IMHO, this is the best laptop recommendations thread in Malaysia.. No doubt about it! smile.gif

Unfortunately 10-13" notebooks don't come with a dedicated GPU at all, so it might not be that good (just in case you want to play other games apart from PES la laugh.gif)

HP reintroduced its wonderful Beats notebooks (overpriced a bit but damn they look great, and audio is good, so you might want to have a look laugh.gif)
14"
HP
Pavilion 14-V011TX, i5-4210U + Nvidia GT830M@RM1999[BeatsAudio][1.98kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8.1; colors: silver/white/red
Pavilion 14-V023TX, i7-4510U + Nvidia GT840M@RM2499[BeatsAudio][1.98kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8.1; colors: silver/white/red

Keyboard is awesome too haha

*Price in RRP~

Dear sifus,

Helping a friend to buy a laptop, need your kind advice. Kinda confused by the multitude of choices out there now rclxub.gif

All recommendations are most welcomed! smile.gif

1. Preferred Brand - None (as long as there is good warranty coverage)
2. Budget - 1.5k ~ 2k
3. Usage - Home use only, casual gaming, watching movies, internet, homework
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15.6" and above

Other requirements
1. Windows pre-installed in a must (8.1)
2. Office pre-installed (or add-on)
3. Decent speakers
4. At least 4gb ram + 500gb hd
5. Decent trackpad/keyboard
6. Lots and lots of connectivity ports (USB in particular)
7. Good screen for movies (HD, IPS, LED etc)

Thanks in advance!

If you want something light, then this:
15.6"
Lenovo Flex 2-15, i7-4510U + Nvidia 840M + (1920x1080 IPS; touch)+ 8GB SSGD + 500GB HDD@RM2799[2.3kg], 4GB, W8
*but I've heard users complaining about colour accuracy of the (possibly cheap) IPS screen, so better check if colour accuracy is important to you icon_rolleyes.gif

If you don't mind something heavier (but more powerful in terms of CPU):
15.6"
MSI
GP60-2OD-034MY, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT740M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM2999, 4GB, 750GB, W8, steel series KB

GP60-2PE-026MY, i7-4700HQ + Nvidia GT840M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) @RM3299[Dynaudio], 4GB, 1TB HDD, W8.1

**Price in RRP
Upgrade to 8GB RAM at least, it will help in your work.
Please take note that Nvidia 840M and GT740M are mere entry-level GPUs, not very made for 3D stuffs  icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the recommendations. I don't mind heavier laptops so I think I will checkout the MSI ones. biggrin.gif Thanks again for the help.

1. Preferred brand
No particular preference. Whichever ones that don't have shite after sales service nowadays will do.

2. Budget
Not more than RM 4,000, give or take a couple hundred.

3. Usage
Occasional gaming (Kerbal Space Program, mostly, which is CPU-heavy), transcoding videos, torrent/home file server.

4. Size
14" - 15".

Other requirements:
GPU - dedicated, preferably GT 840M/750M equivalent or above.

Storage - I intend to use an SSD for the OS/boot drive and a separate 1 TB drive for data/less critical programs. So thr notebook must have either:
- A mSATA or M.2 slot, or
- A DVD drive so that I can replace the drive with a HDD caddy.

CPU - Haswell quad-core is preferred.

Cooling is also important because the notebook will be on 24/7.

Suggestions please?
